How would I know if I black listed xpad, and while we are at it, what is xpad? :)

I’ll tell you what I’m doing. This is a FRESH install of the latest RetroPie on my Pi 2. I have PS 2 controllers hooked up (as usual) via USB adapter, and they work fine (again as usual). As for the Rockcandy controller, it is brand new.

As for xboxdrv, how do I know if it is finding the controller? Though the controller set up option in EmulationStation? If so, then yes, as I stated above, it detects all buttons like it is fine with it. On Raspian jstest-gtk even shows it as working as it should, but in emulators and in EmulationStation’s menu, the Left Trigger works but not the right. Initially neither button worked, but I configured it a second time and then the left started working, but not the right.

Hi There,

I’m having a stressful time getting my usb snes (iBuffalo) to register with the emulators.
It’s working in emulationstation menus….but not in games.
It comes up at “Not configured” in yellow writing on starting an emulator.

I have successfully setup my 2p arcade joystick (Xin-mo) after a bit of a hectic time thanks to awesome folk on this forum!

So now I want the ability to jump between pad and joysticks….

The key thing I think is the fact that I haven’t got a file in my /retroarch – joypads/ folder that corresponds to the snes controller. I have one in there for my arcade stick.

This is why I think the emulators are saying it’s “not configured”…..

so my question is, how do I properly configure this bad boy!?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks
James

That’s strange. But I too often have problems w/ my USB controllers for a short amount of time after I’ve put my Pi on. It takes a while for the Pi to “warm up” and actually “see” (or “register”) USB devices that are connected to the Pi via a (powered) hub.

I reconnect the hub and the controllers a few times until it shows up w/ the following command:

jstest /dev/input/js0

Is you controller connected directly to the Pi or via a hub? And does the controller work on your PC? I.e.: is the usb cable not broken?

P.S. I have the iBuffalo faux-SNES controller too. :)

But they are not manually editables. I am having a hard work to configure my 2 players (P1 with keyboard and P2 with a usb pad).

BTW, could you tell my how to get a mouse working in mame 2003?

I went through the trouble of scraping all of my games with version 3.0 and have the gameslist.xml and images. I installed the new 3.5 image on my SD and tried to restore my previous scrape. I put them in the right folders and the permissions look good (owner = PI, has rw perms) but EmulationStaion doesn’t use the metadata or the box art.
I tried copying them via USB and also WinSCP and while files are there, no love.

Folders under /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation
Gameslist file located under /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/gamelists/nes/
gameslist.xml shows the right path to the image:
<image>~/.emulationstation/downloaded_images/nes/Pipe Dream (U)-image.jpg</image>

I have restarted the system and still don’t get the boxart/metadata. What am I doing wrong? I should be able to just copy the previously downloaded images and gamelist files and move them to a new system so I don’t have to re-scrape right?

I have verified that if I do a manual scrape from EmulationStation that it will fetch the boxart and metadata and display it.

Hi all,

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I’m using retropie 3.5 with a Pi 2. I’ve setup/configured the PS3 controller using this link:
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Setting-up-a-PS3-controller

It works great in Emulationstation & in games when the usb cord is connected to the PS3 controller. However, once the USB cable is disconnected and the controller vibrates, connects to the bluetooth the controller no longer works in EmulationStation. I’ve rebooted retropie and reconnected via bluetooth but same thing…only works via usb cable. When connected to bluetooth PS3 controller is not working…..any ideas?

Thank you in advance- you all seem very knowledgable and I hovering just above clueless :)
I have raspberry Pi 2 model B
I’m running retropie 3.5 (although I did just do a system update)
Dreamcast comes already installed on this version but I can’t get the system manager to run.
Looking at ~/reicast/data. ls -lah my dc_boot.bin and dc_flash.bin are pink instead of blue which I believe means that my BIOS files are not installed/properly installed
I’m moving everything to raspi using a usb flash drive. I copied the BIOS files into fromreicast/data and still no dice.
I’m stuck and I’m sure it’s something simple.
I have read Free5ty1e’s responses and have gotten as far as I can.
If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be greatful.
You can delete this post. I now have it working. I think the onboard bluetooth just takes longer than my USB bluetooth dongle to become available. With the USB dongle, I could start the controller when I first saw the retropie screen, and it would sync up. Now I have to wait till until it is completely booted, then turn on the controller.
Hi, how did you achieve it?

I have the same problem, Rpi3 with the berryboot 3.6 image and I couldn’t make the bluetooth and WiFi working. I followed your same steps and no luck.
If a use the my bluetooth dongle the controller (at least) pairs but every time I turn on the Pi it didn’t reconnect, I have to go to the bluetooth setting and pair it again…

I tried to configure a USB-NES controller in RetroPie, but something went wrong.
I tried to remove the config-file in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/ in hope that I could end up with “a new gamepad” is connected in RetroPie, but I was wrong.

How can I do to get this gamepad work as I want to?
I have the config-file saved on my computer, but pasting that to /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/ won’t help at all.

Me too. I have the PS3 controller , but it wouldn’t work in emulators. Solution? Is it normal that mayflash stick doesn’t pop up as controller in the beginning, because, my PS3 Controller is a game pad, but my mayflash isn’t counted as a gsmepad. That’s why I wasn’t able to play on the mayflash until my keyboard comes and check the config. But my PS3 works on the system but not on the ROM. Is it normal? My USB keyboard hasn’t arrived yet

Hi.

I’m having troubles to get my mouse working too.

I did

cat /dev/input/mouse0

And

cat /dev/input/mouse1

And both worked (one is my keyboard’s integrated touchpad and the other a usb mouse), but now I don’t know how to make one of them work in emulators (I use lr-mame 2003).

Any help is highly appreciated…

Anyone got this controller to work with Retropie, I have tried a few times it does not seem to support it at all.

Could it work or should I give up?

I bought 2 generic PS3 controllers from Amazon, both bluetooth, and I can’t seem to figure out how to register them for use in retropie. I tried the Dualshock installer with no luck, and if I use the controllers over USB(Which I don’t want to do, since i bought the bluetooth ones) they work, but constantly vibrate lightly.

I’ve also tried registering it with the “Register/Pair Bluetooth Devices” options in EmulationStation/RetroPie and anytime I try to register a new device it just freezes up. I’m new to the whole raspberry pi game and just trying to get my box going!

THanks in advance everyone!

Good Afternoon-

I’m completely new to Raspberry Pi/RetroPIE. I just got a Raspberry Pi 3, and set it up:
Pi Model: 3
RetroPie Version Used: 3.6
Built From: SD card
USB Devices connected: Cirka SNES controller, keyboard, mouse
Controller used: Cirka SNES
Error messages received: None
Guide used:
File:
Attachment of config files:
How to replicate the problem:

None of my SNES games will launch at all. They just shift to a black screen and then nothing happens. Not a problem with the built in ROMs or the NES ROMs I ported in. Any thoughts? Help, please!

The iBuffalo USB controller is very popular. And the 8bitdo range are very good as well.

Can you run lsusb and post the output regarding your controller so I can check to see if we have support for it and if not, it can be added to xboxdrv.

I bought a RockCandy XBOX 360 Wired Controller. All is well except the bottom triggers, they don’t seem to register. Also the HOME button always blinks.

I also have this problem on on Raspian and Retropie, though on Retropie the right trigger sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t, but never scrolls through the menu. The left trigger can be flakey sometimes too after configuration and has to be configured over again until it irons itself out. Ironically they both act as if they are going to work during the detection and configuration process.

In Linux Mint on my laptop (also Debian based), I resolved this by updating xboxdrv though apt-get. On the Pi, this made no difference.
Also according to jstest-gtk, the controller is fine…

Anyhow, I thought all this had been resolved last year. Any theories?

I built a 2 player arcade machine this past week and finally got it assembled. The other day on its first boot, I programmed the joysticks using the automatic programming. I had programmed both joysticks when I loaded a game and found out that one was reversed, I tried to reprogram it but no matter which one i programmed, one joystick was reversed. I did some research and found out that the 2 usb controllers have the same usb id’s and saw that I installed one joystick backwards. Now i can’t play a game without one joystick being backwards and I don’t want to take it apart. can anyone think of a solution?

Could this be used to feed power to everything connected to the Pi assuming I rigged it to plug into the MiniUSB port?

I was thinking of stripping it down and putting it inside of my Pistation.

Pi Model: (Raspberry Pi 1 B)
RetroPie Version Used: (3.6 (Upgraded from 3.5))
Built From: (SD Image)
USB Devices connected: N/A
Controller used: N/A
Error messages received: N/A
Guide used: No
File: Something under \opt\retropie\configs\all\emulationstation
Attachment of config files: Attached below (compressed)
How to replicate the problem: Add config files to Retropie on a Pi 1 B. If sound works, then do the following steps:

• Do this in a single session.
1. Install Timidity
• Uninstall Timidity
• Install WildMIDI

Pretty much, this is one of the weirdest experiences I have had trying to solve a problem. After getting the zip file of my config files, I ran the alsa sound test program. After I rebooted, the sound worked again, but my configuration files were reset. So I copied over the new config files with the copy of the Emulation-Station directory from the zip file, and sound stopped working again. I am guessing that the problem may be caused by the config files in the Emulation-Station directory.

Hi all,

Is anyone else experiencing “freezing” with the N64 emulator (mupen64plus) on the Raspberry Pi 3 (RetroPie v3.6)?

I can play a game (like Mario64) for a few minutes, then the whole Pi locks up (can’t SSH in to do anything) and have to pull the power. As far as I can tell, it’s not overheating (doesn’t seem to get much above 61°C) and I’m using the official Pi power lead with no additional items plugged into USB.

I found what seemed like a similar issue here, but I’ve tried switching the AudioDriver and still crashes. I’ve also tried building the Emulator from source, in case it’s a fixed bug, but still occurs.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance! :o)

-Downloaded and loaded latest SD image into Raspberry Pi
-Booted for first time
-PS3 controller is wired and plugged in to USB port
-emulationstation detects controller
-I can press all buttons and the “playstation 3 controller” text flashes on screen
-I hold a button down to configure
-Now the only button I can press is the one I held down originally. No other buttons work, so I cannot configure my controller!

Getting frustrated that the controller seems to work but I cannot configure it.

Any solutions or experiences?

Ok, I FINALLY figured it out after two weeks of messing with it!!!!

I found a page that went into details about the config.txt file. I tried uncommenting a bunch of stuff out one at a time and the only line that allowed me to finally get an image when I commented t out was:

# hdmi_safe=1

That line is for:

# uncomment if you get no picture on HDMI for a default “safe” mode

That got me thinking. I’ve been using an HDMI to VGA adapter so that I could use my Pi 2 with a VGA computer monitor. There is a micro USB input power connection on this adapter. I’ve NEVER put power on that connection in the weeks that I’ve been using it for setting up OSMC boxes and other Pi applications and it’s worked fine. I just took power off of my Pi 2, added power to the adapter and powered up the Pi 2 and it boots up fine now with the above line remarked out again.

What a strange one. Case closed!!!

First let me start off by saying I am currently in Afghanistan. If and this is a big if I had the ability to endlessly search the internet for a solution to my issue I would. That being said…………I am trying to identify how to enable cheats. I am using RetroPie 3.1 because that is the best I can do for now. I have limited connectivity, and limited bandwidth through a terrible mobile data plan which only works outside.

I have search for a solution in the little time I have available while not working, but have come up empty handed as most pages are identified as restricted or the internet is to slow to load the pages. I am using a iBUFFALO Classic USB Gamepad. I have access to a keyboard, but I do not know what I need to do in order to enable this option. If someone can assist me I would greatly appreciate it.

blanka, I think you answered your own question. I was getting sound to work at first using another method too. In fact, I have used four or five different methods to get usb sound working in some capacity, but it wasn’t until I reversed my other attempts and followed the instructions in the link to create /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf that the delay went away.

Right now, however, I have the broadcom audio enabled again going to the built-in 3.5mm jack and my USB dongle is unplugged. I discovered that the NORMALIZE audio setting in advancemame was the cause of crackling. Once I turned off normalization in the GUI, and permanently with this line in advmame.rc: “sound_normalize no” the crackling stops. I am testing whether or not I even need USB audio.

Anyway, try the technique outlined in the link above and see if that works better.

So I think I fixed it. The USB adapter I was using to use my original SNES controllers had two ports. The second port ended up being for player 1, and the first for player 2. I noticed that after a rewipe, but it seems to have solved the issue.

Hi everyone, I’m new to Retro Pi and after two weeks of messing with this on and off I have never been able to successfully reboot the Pi once everything is installed. I can get the system up and running and I can get my ROMs installed and I can play games. Anytime I try and quit and disconnect the power it will never start back up again.

I’m using a Raspberry Pi 2 with an iBuffalo Classic USB Game Pad. I’ve tried using an 8gb SanDisk card and also a 32gb card. Since it seems like everyone else but me can get this to run successfully it has to be something I’m doing but I just can’t figure out what it could be. Surely this can’t be that difficult. I seriously have re-loaded this 10 times. I’m getting tired of re-imaging the card and starting all over again only to end up back in the same spot with the Pi appearing as though it’s bricked. I’ve never tried a second Pi with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
