Wired PS3 controller Issues

-Downloaded and loaded latest SD image into Raspberry Pi
-Booted for first time
-PS3 controller is wired and plugged in to USB port
-emulationstation detects controller
-I can press all buttons and the “playstation 3 controller” text flashes on screen
-I hold a button down to configure
-Now the only button I can press is the one I held down originally. No other buttons work, so I cannot configure my controller!

Getting frustrated that the controller seems to work but I cannot configure it.

Any solutions or experiences?
