    So I’m having a bit of an odd problem…

    I modified my Retroarch.cfg file to include:
    input_enable_hotkey_btn = “8”
    input_exit_emulator_btn = “9”

    Where 8 and 9 are the select and starts buttons on my USB SNES controller. In the NES, SNES, and GBA emulators, pressing start and select backs on out to Emulation Station.

    However, on Genesis nothing happens. I’ve also noticed that in Genesis games, the select button is actually functioning as start.
    Maybe those are correlated? I also can’t seem to find any Genesis or Megadrive .cfg file to look into when I’m exploring in LXDE. But I’m very new to this, so I might be missing something.
    If anybody has any suggestions or knows why this is happening, advice is appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello,

    I have a USB Hori Fighting stick plug to the Raspberry.

    The stick it’s properly detected an seems to work fine, i’m able to browse the emulationstation interface with the joystick and play snes emulators perfectly fine.

    Besides this when i run the neo geo emulator only the buttons work, but the stick (for move) don’t work.

    I have run several times retroarch-joyconfig but with same result (snes working but not neogeo).

    In my configs folder i don’t have a directory for neogeo. I have tried creating a neogeo directory and a gngeo-0.7 and putting there the retroarch.cfg with same results.

    So right now i’m quite lost…

    Any idea why the gngeo ignores the stick?

    Thanks,

    I forgot to mention, I was also running a USB-hub, and removing it removed some of the lag. No lag is reduced without the controller.

    So, now some games are playable, although GBA games, and certain SNES games are still pretty much unplayable. Is there any settings one could do to reduce the lag?

    Hi, think the Retro Pie project is amazing, nice one for the work! :)

    After reading about Retro Pie my plan was to get the Atari, NES, SNES, Turbografx/PCengine, SMS, SMD, GB and GBC emulators going with some usb pads then stick my pi in a nice little case (and show off to all my friends).

    Been fiddling around to reach this goal but still struggling with a few things. I’ve searched for answers but been unsuccessful so I apologise if any of these have been answered elsewhere:

    1. I’m using the RetroPieImg_ver1.0.img, if however I use the ver1.3 image or try to update the firmware etc. on the ver1.0 my audio goes nuts and breaks. Not a massive deal as I’m ok, for my needs, with the 1.0 img, would be nice to be know why this is though.

    2. How can I get the mastersystem/gamegear emulator running fullscreen, configured for my joypads and able to exit to ES using the joypad as the retroarch emulators are able to do? What do I put in which file?

    3.Same as above but regarding the megadrive emulator? Tried editing the dgenrc files in .dgen but it doesn’t seem to make any difference

    4. I would like to add a PDF reader to the EmulationStation frontend for browsing manuals/game mags/guides etc. is there a way I can do this?

    Everything is very playable and awesome but once I really just get the sega emulators sorted properly I’m laughing.

    Cheers

    Do you also observe this when the USB controller is not connected to the RPi?

    Okay, so, I’ve set up the RetroPie emulator on my Pi and I have it connected by HDMI to my 32″ TV.Now, the issue I’m having is as follows. Almost everything is crazy laggy. The only games I’ve managed to actually play are low-graphic NES games, such as Castlevania and Bomberman. SNES & GBA games for example, are completely unplayable.

    Worth noting, I am an amateur when it comes to Raspbian (And Linux in general) so some settings I may have done, might not have affected the rights things.
    I have my screen resolution to 680×480 (in /boot/config.txt)
    Medium OC.
    I use one Tomee SNES USB controller, and that works okay so far.

    So, any idea what this could be? Any other settings to make the games actually playable?

    Thank you!

    Shame my TV Tuner died i would of made a lil video guide on youtube showing how to use/setup RetroPie :3 though im not sure if its unclean power but.. last 2 times if i use my wireless 360 controller at boot. i get mmc0 Errors. i think i got an USB Logitech controller i can make work

    i managed to for now whie i wait for answers on the raspberryPi forums about the 360 controller and xboxdrv, i got the PS3 (Sony) controller working using this: http://booting-rpi.blogspot.ro/2012/08/dualshock-3-and-raspberry-pi.html

    the numbers i got from mine are:

    O=13 X=14 SQ=15 Tri12

    rightD 5
    Left D=7
    Up D=4
    down D=6

    sel=0
    start3

    (sorry i didnt write down offhand what L1/2 R1/2 and L3/R3 were because recognition is… “Buggy” at best. would probbly be better if i had tghe pi on an  higher PSU (using an 1.2A atm as it seems like the power comming from my 2A PSU isnt clean (i was getting false mmc time out errors on my SD Card and went away after changing PSU’s)

    ok far as i know theres two types of keybindings. Xwindows (which we dont need) and Bash/CLI bindings

    anthing like XK_letter wont work (no X11 running.) so how would say we go about mapping controlls for the basic console average? or can a Simple USB Gamepad work? (i have the one homebrew app for the PSP that represents itself as basicly a generic USB Gamepad to the equivilent of a SNES controller)

    and does RetroPie include NXEngine?

    Hi Brian,

    I hope it is ok that I split your post and made it a thread on its own!?

    I have read about lagging USB game pads at the official RPi forum. But, unfortunately, I did not follow the discussions and cannot find the thread right now. Maybe someone else here can help!?

    Hi everyone,

    I seem to not be able to create a new topic, so I figured I’d post this under the beginners section for now…

    First off, thanks to everyone for all your efforts on this project.  But, I am setting things up and having some issues with lag when playing these games, somewhere between me pressing the buttons on my USB controller (Logitech Wingman) and seeing the actual results on the screen (HDMI, Sony Internet TV).

    For a few days I have been thinking that this is a general issue with slow USB input on the Pi.  In the Raspbian Wheezy desktop, I definitely see a lag just while moving the mouse cursor around, even when I have brought the resolution down to 1024 x 768.

    But recently, someone brought up to me that maybe it is just a lag with my HDMI television?

    So, I just wanted to see if anyone has any thoughts on what the problem could be, or any ideas on what I should try next:

    – USB HID input polling problem?  Should I use the GPIO based solution?

    – the fact I’m using HDMI?

    – lag in my TV itself?

    – something else?

    Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Brian
