    Now i have try and i can’t not make it work with my Xbox360 Control.

    So if it is possible to buy a 100% working SD Card to work with Nes/snes/n64/GB/GBA/all sega I will pay for it to work.

    Is it somebody how what to help me with this here ?

    Hey I was looking into getting a Raspberry Pi and using RetroPie to emulate some old systems. I was wondering if it was possible to hot-swap controllers? I was planning to get some of the Retro-Bit USB controllers that look like the N64, Sega Genesis, or SNES controllers. I was wondering if it was possible to, say, plug in the Sega controller and play some Sonic for a while. When I was done, if I wanted to play some N64, unplug the Sega controller and plug in the N64 controller and have it work.

    Do I have to set up these controllers every time, or will is there a way for it to “know” what controller is there and behave appropriately?

    Hey guys!

    What size of the SD-Card do you recommend for a decent collection of games for every emulator?
    Can you run ROM’s from a USB harddrive or will this be too slow?
    How did you manage your ROM collection?
    Is there a RetroPie complete ROM pack? (don’t post a link if there is, i don’t think your allowed to)

    EDIT: i just found a NES collection with 2581 games which is only 120MB and a SNES Collection with 750 Games -> 500MB
    N64 Collection 297 Games -> 1GB

    So i guess PSX will require more space and a 8GB SD-Card is not enough.
    What size do you guys run on your system?

    Has anyone had any luck using N64 controllers(nintendo brand) connected through USB? I already have 4 controllers and I think this would be the best option for me(also it has a good setup for playing older games).

    So, after a couple of attempts at getting raspbian + emulationstation up and running, plus RetroArch and all the other Emulators that I want to use configured, everything checks out and is good to go. GBA was working smooth, SNES was running at ~25 fps. So I figured I need to overclock a bit and change my memorysplit – overclocked it to the “modest” setting, split memory to 192 (it was not overclocked and on 128 before), but now all I get when starting ES is a black screen with a white dot. I understand this means that SDL is initialized and good to go, but ES just stays there and doesnt boot.
    I had it sitting on there for 15 minutes before I tried to kill ES – none of the combinations that I could think of work (ctrl+c, F10, F4, ESC, …..), so I just unplugged my pi, changed back my OC and memsplit settings, but nothing changes.
    I checked es_log.txt, and the last line is “lvl2: Loading system config file…”. Thats it. I’m clueless as to what to do now, short of reinstalling everything (I compiled it from sources and I dont want to spend another 8 hours waiting for it :/) The only change I made to existing scripts is that I changed the ROM folder for all emulators (except the ES interface one) to my USB stick and all my configuration was done through the EmulationStation and RGUI interfaces.

    My other issue is that on mupen64plus I didnt get any video, just a ton of RSP errors that scrolled so fast it was hard to read what the exact error is before it terminated.

    I hope this made sense, I’m new to the whole *nix and pi thing. Any help is appreciated!

    You have to edit the Inputautoconfig.ini file found in usr/local/share/mupen64 to match the mupen64plus.cfg file found in retropie/emulators/mupen64plus. The only way for the .ini file to show up in usr/local/share/mupen64 is if you have already ran m64p_build.sh and installed with m64p_install.sh

    Hey all,

    I am having trouble with the Mupen64 emulator. Upon launching a rom, there will be an error line in the terminal which reads something like:

    “no auto-config found for {my controller’s name}”
    “reverting to keyboard input”

    In the game the only functionality I have is the start(enter) button. Does anyone have a solution to this? I can give the full error print out if it would better help my case.

    N64 emulation really pushes the limits of what the Pi is capable of, only a few titles run close to playable speed. 2d based games are the limit really, although quite a few Playstation games will run nicely.

    Hello, I have recently installer Retropie on my Raspberry Pi. I am a huge fan of Nintendo 64 Legend of zelda’s and marios, etc… But when I powered up Super Smash Bros, it black screens and doesn’t even boot up. Then, I downloaded Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. It booted up, but lagged as hell. Cut scenes are so laggy. Link is disappearing and flashing. When he’s controllable, he sinks into the ground and walks on his face.

    I downloaded these both .n64 files from NOROMSITESPLEASE. So, am I doing this wrong? I’ve only had a few games from before. Those defaults, Cave Story and such.

    Is there different roms that are specially made for Retropie? If so, how do I get them?

    I have a B model Pi and overclocked to 1.0GhZ.

    Yes it can…there are some crevats…like quitting n64…but yeah, that’s the idea…just have a USB WiFi mini keyboard/mouse at hand in case u need..

    I have the Logitech F310 as well and haven’t installed any drivers for it (other than what came with Raspbian). I haven’t tried the N64 emulator, but all the other emulators I’ve tried work fine. Some emulators require me to enable the “mode” button to get the dpad working though, so you might want to try that.

    I am working on building my retropie emulator and have almost gotten everything working, but I have an annoying controller issue I am hoping someone can help me with.

    I have a Logitech F310 controller which I have setup on a powered hub, using Xbox Drivers. It works in EmulationStation fine. When I boot a game in N64 emu, all the buttons and the analog sticks work, which is perfect, but the D-PAD does not. If I boot a game up on any emulators that do not use the analog sticks, the D-PAD does not work, but all other buttons work.

    When I run the retroarch-joyconfig, the controller gives no input, but if I run the input config option from emulation station, it does accept input and outputs the following to the retroarch.cfg

    input_player1_joypad_index = 0
    input_player1_up_btn = h0up
    input_player1_down_btn = h0down
    input_player1_left_btn = h0left
    input_player1_right_btn = h0right

    You could do it yourself, but dgen/n64 and stuff are not part of retroarch, so thought arnt “ment” to be where you say, though it would be nice…

    I first downloaded the “all in one” image a month or so ago … i did however use the retropie-setup.sh or whatever it was to update the bianaries, firmware, etc. I assume i’ll be current… that was just updated this morning.

    When you say you “added your own specific joypad name” does this mean you added a name of your choosing or is there some way to get the name of the joypad from mupen64plus output when it is starting? I have read that you can register your control but don’t think I’ve done that – is this how you get the name of the controller?

    Will be looking into this later today – gotta be honest – this whole configure joysticks thing confuses the hell out of me but I’ll do some trial and error.

    I’ll see how I go and hope that in the meantime you can answer my couple of questions here and/or someone else may come along and shed some more light on this for me.

    In my case i edited both the InputAutoCfg.ini and the mupen64plus.cfg (in /home/pi/RetroPie/.config/mupen64plus or /home/pi/.config/mupen64plus cant remember). I just added my own specific joypad name.

    you dont need to move /test is the right folder

    Like I said I had found the files but InputAutoCfg.ini is located at this path in my installation:
    /home/pi/RetroPie/emulators/mupen64plue-rpi/test/

    Do you know if I need to edit both that file and also mupen64plus.cfg located at /home/pi/RetroPie/emulators/mupen64plus-rpi to have the same settings?

    I am also wondering if InputAutoCfg.ini needs to be moved from the current path and into /home/pi/RetroPie/emulators/mupen64plus-rpi instead?

    I did find that my wireless keyboard is working for the one game I have in the n64 ROMS folder (Mario Kart) but I need settings for snes controller.

    Can anyone give details for this?

    the only n64 emulator that works on linux and rpi is mupen64plus. This is not a retroarch core, thus it uses its own config files.

    To configure your controler search for the InputAutoCfg.ini file in the /home/pi/RetroPie/emulatores/mupen64-plusrpi folder

    My question is how do I get my controller working for N64 games which can be entered using the controller but can’t be started or controlled?

    My single retrolink snes controller works in all emulators except for mupen64plus.

    I understand that mupen64plus does not use the RetroArch core.

    Problem is the file to edit as directed here:

    does not exist at /usr/local/share/mupen64plus OR at /usr/share/mupen64plus

    mupen64plus.cfg is located at /home/pi/RetroPie/emulators/mupen64plus-rpi and there is InputAutoCfg.ini file located at /home/pi/RetroPie/emulators/mupen64plue-rpi/test

    Does anyone have a link to files I can use for this controller or can someone help me get this set up so it works?

    Thanks for posting back – I have progress!

    After changing the es_systems config file to use piFBA I have placed the zipped neogeo BIOS directory inside /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba along with kof98.zip

    If I select kof98 from the menu it loads into the checker board screen, I then select the Start button (on my single generic RetroLink SNES controller) and get the color adjustment screen – I then hit the start button again and get to the I/O screen.

    I guess this is why you guys are talking about best controller cause from there I can’t figure out what I need to do to get the game running.

    I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing with controller configuration files and was lucky enough to be directed to a download of a dgenrc configuration file and also a retroarcg.cfg file which is good for atari2600, nes, snes, psx, mastersystem and gba. These are the ONLY controller config files I have touched.

    I have attached the above mentioned config files (EDIT- MMM – no config file uploads permitted :(-

    could someone tell me where I need to go from here to get neogeo happening please – what do I need to do at the I/O screen or elsewhere to get this working?

    N64 emulator isn’t part of retroarch core, so doesn’t use the main config file, it uses its own in /home/pi/.configs (o believe off hand)

    I don’t believe it possible to quite via.control yet, or no one has posted it..

    Hello all,

    at first i would like to say that RetroPie is an awesome project. I have installed it on my Raspberry Pi and i don’t want to stop playing every day :-D

    But now i got a very little problem. I defined two keys to exit every emulator with the famous two lines in the retroarch.cfg. But this doesn’t work on Mupen64. I have to press ESC on my Keyboard or to reset my PI to leave this emulator.

    Do you have any ideas what’s wrong?

    Ok happen to so more searching and found the answer:

    in ~/.config/mupen64plus/mupen64plus.cfg

    changed OUTPUT_PORT to 0 which 0 is for AudioJack and 1 is for HDMI.

    Works good, just some crackling in it so I will work on that now.

    Hello All,

    I am having an issue with N64, I get no audio through HDMI or the headphone jack. All other emulators work fine – Atari 2600, MAME, NES, Snes. I have tried various setings that I Googled and none worked. I was wondering if there is a log file for the Mupen64plus that I can check to see if I can find any errors. I do know I get a glimpse of “Audio buffer underrun” but cant not get too much information from it due to the emulator closing. I am running the 512K, overclocked to 900 Mhz, 384 mem GPU.

    change your gpu ram to 128, i read somewhere that neither the psx/n64 can run with more than that, and running with higher than 128 cause swap file slow down..

    I have installed Raspbian on my Raspberry. I did it “from scratch”. I have a 512-raspberry. When Tasksel shows up I installed SSH, but no GUI. Afterwards I have installed RetroPie using the guide on this page. The installation was done using source, took time, but no errormessages. I have enabled SAMBA, AdvancedMenu and put the memory split to be 256/256. I have uploaded several roms to the provided folder for NES, SNES, N64 and PSX.

    My problem is that after I try to start “emulationstation” the line changes, the cursor stops blinking and “everything stops”. I can leave it on until the next morning without any change.
    I tried turning on the automatic boot, and this just caused the same to happen, just with a completely black screen. There are no errormessages.

    I have tried starting it up with –ignore-gamelist and –gamelist-only.

    What shall I try?

    Yes, I found that adding video_threaded=true improves performance. Also rewind_enable = false, can also improve performance, and enabling it cause some cores to segfault.

    Also setting sound rate to 44100 also improves audio performance in some cores.

    On overclocking, 950 is what I have, running smoothly all cores, except some x32 games (virtua fighter and some others).

    Also, I’ve read that using a lower ram split, leaving at least 192 mb of ram for the cpu may be better, at least that’s what the developer of muppen64plus-pi says.

    Here is some points:

    I think RetroPie pulls the master branch from the repository. The ric_dev branch is usually slightly faster but more likely to have errors.

    To get the best performance you should do the following:
    1. Overclock the Pi to its maximum stable speed (use ‘sudo raspi-config’ )
    2. Run mupen64plus using sudo/root so that it can change its scheduler policy to ‘hog’ the CPU
    3. Use 128Mb GPU/CPU memory split. The current code doesn’t force the kernel to keep pages in ram so if the split is too high, then pages will be swapped and slow emulation down. (Fix coming soon)
    4. Run mupen64plus without the desktop (use Ctrl+Alt+F1; [log in]; sudo telinit 2)
    5. The video-gles2n64 plugin is the fastest so use it if it works with the ROM you want to play.
    6. Modify mupen64plus.cfg as detailed in other posts and in the repo wiki (Although it needs more detail)

    It’s fairly easy to update emulators via the script. This shouldn’t affect your retroarch settings so your safe but if might change any final burn alpha control configs so make a copy. Also to install mupen64 select install from sources in the setup script. Try not to wipe and format your sd card too much as it can negatively effect it’s lifespan.

    I started my project by using the 1.8.1 retropie SD card image. after corrupting my SD card a few times early on I started making backup images of my project after each major change or rom addition. my current image is very stable, has tons of roms, and emulationstation’s themes and gameslist.xml files are all nice and pretty….

    Question: What is the best practice to ‘upgrade’ my emulators and add N64 (Mupen64Plus-RPi) ?

    1. Use the retropie setup script ? If so, which options should I choose ?
    or..
    2. Download the latest SD card image (1.9.1), and copy my rom folders, .cfg files, theme folders, etc …

    This project has been the most (technical) fun I have had in a long time !

    dale2600 managed to setup the controller! The left shoulder button is defined to quite the game. So if anyone uses this great original Sega controller, now you have the weapon to beat every Sega Mega Drive / Genesis game :)
