Topic: Hot swapping controllers
Hey I was looking into getting a Raspberry Pi and using RetroPie to emulate some old systems. I was wondering if it was possible to hot-swap controllers? I was planning to get some of the Retro-Bit USB controllers that look like the N64, Sega Genesis, or SNES controllers. I was wondering if it was possible to, say, plug in the Sega controller and play some Sonic for a while. When I was done, if I wanted to play some N64, unplug the Sega controller and plug in the N64 controller and have it work.
Do I have to set up these controllers every time, or will is there a way for it to “know” what controller is there and behave appropriately?

PhilSo, after a couple of attempts at getting raspbian + emulationstation up and running, plus RetroArch and all the other Emulators that I want to use configured, everything checks out and is good to go. GBA was working smooth, SNES was running at ~25 fps. So I figured I need to overclock a bit and change my memorysplit – overclocked it to the “modest” setting, split memory to 192 (it was not overclocked and on 128 before), but now all I get when starting ES is a black screen with a white dot. I understand this means that SDL is initialized and good to go, but ES just stays there and doesnt boot.
I had it sitting on there for 15 minutes before I tried to kill ES – none of the combinations that I could think of work (ctrl+c, F10, F4, ESC, …..), so I just unplugged my pi, changed back my OC and memsplit settings, but nothing changes.
I checked es_log.txt, and the last line is “lvl2: Loading system config file…”. Thats it. I’m clueless as to what to do now, short of reinstalling everything (I compiled it from sources and I dont want to spend another 8 hours waiting for it :/) The only change I made to existing scripts is that I changed the ROM folder for all emulators (except the ES interface one) to my USB stick and all my configuration was done through the EmulationStation and RGUI interfaces.My other issue is that on mupen64plus I didnt get any video, just a ton of RSP errors that scrolled so fast it was hard to read what the exact error is before it terminated.
I hope this made sense, I’m new to the whole *nix and pi thing. Any help is appreciated!
Topic: Mupen64 Controller Issues
Hey all,
I am having trouble with the Mupen64 emulator. Upon launching a rom, there will be an error line in the terminal which reads something like:
“no auto-config found for {my controller’s name}”
“reverting to keyboard input”In the game the only functionality I have is the start(enter) button. Does anyone have a solution to this? I can give the full error print out if it would better help my case.

Hello, I have recently installer Retropie on my Raspberry Pi. I am a huge fan of Nintendo 64 Legend of zelda’s and marios, etc… But when I powered up Super Smash Bros, it black screens and doesn’t even boot up. Then, I downloaded Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. It booted up, but lagged as hell. Cut scenes are so laggy. Link is disappearing and flashing. When he’s controllable, he sinks into the ground and walks on his face.
I downloaded these both .n64 files from NOROMSITESPLEASE. So, am I doing this wrong? I’ve only had a few games from before. Those defaults, Cave Story and such.
Is there different roms that are specially made for Retropie? If so, how do I get them?
I have a B model Pi and overclocked to 1.0GhZ.

I am working on building my retropie emulator and have almost gotten everything working, but I have an annoying controller issue I am hoping someone can help me with.
I have a Logitech F310 controller which I have setup on a powered hub, using Xbox Drivers. It works in EmulationStation fine. When I boot a game in N64 emu, all the buttons and the analog sticks work, which is perfect, but the D-PAD does not. If I boot a game up on any emulators that do not use the analog sticks, the D-PAD does not work, but all other buttons work.
When I run the retroarch-joyconfig, the controller gives no input, but if I run the input config option from emulation station, it does accept input and outputs the following to the retroarch.cfg

I am not really sure how to get the D-PAD working in game, it works everywhere else.
My question is how do I get my controller working for N64 games which can be entered using the controller but can’t be started or controlled?
My single retrolink snes controller works in all emulators except for mupen64plus.
I understand that mupen64plus does not use the RetroArch core.
Problem is the file to edit as directed here:

does not exist at /usr/local/share/mupen64plus OR at /usr/share/mupen64plusmupen64plus.cfg is located at /home/pi/RetroPie/emulators/mupen64plus-rpi and there is InputAutoCfg.ini file located at /home/pi/RetroPie/emulators/mupen64plue-rpi/test
Does anyone have a link to files I can use for this controller or can someone help me get this set up so it works?

Hello all,
at first i would like to say that RetroPie is an awesome project. I have installed it on my Raspberry Pi and i don’t want to stop playing every day :-D
But now i got a very little problem. I defined two keys to exit every emulator with the famous two lines in the retroarch.cfg. But this doesn’t work on Mupen64. I have to press ESC on my Keyboard or to reset my PI to leave this emulator.
Do you have any ideas what’s wrong?

Topic: No audio N64
Hello All,
I am having an issue with N64, I get no audio through HDMI or the headphone jack. All other emulators work fine – Atari 2600, MAME, NES, Snes. I have tried various setings that I Googled and none worked. I was wondering if there is a log file for the Mupen64plus that I can check to see if I can find any errors. I do know I get a glimpse of “Audio buffer underrun” but cant not get too much information from it due to the emulator closing. I am running the 512K, overclocked to 900 Mhz, 384 mem GPU.

Topic: Emulstation does not start
I have installed Raspbian on my Raspberry. I did it “from scratch”. I have a 512-raspberry. When Tasksel shows up I installed SSH, but no GUI. Afterwards I have installed RetroPie using the guide on this page. The installation was done using source, took time, but no errormessages. I have enabled SAMBA, AdvancedMenu and put the memory split to be 256/256. I have uploaded several roms to the provided folder for NES, SNES, N64 and PSX.
My problem is that after I try to start “emulationstation” the line changes, the cursor stops blinking and “everything stops”. I can leave it on until the next morning without any change.
I tried turning on the automatic boot, and this just caused the same to happen, just with a completely black screen. There are no errormessages.I have tried starting it up with –ignore-gamelist and –gamelist-only.
What shall I try?
I started my project by using the 1.8.1 retropie SD card image. after corrupting my SD card a few times early on I started making backup images of my project after each major change or rom addition. my current image is very stable, has tons of roms, and emulationstation’s themes and gameslist.xml files are all nice and pretty….
Question: What is the best practice to ‘upgrade’ my emulators and add N64 (Mupen64Plus-RPi) ?
1. Use the retropie setup script ? If so, which options should I choose ?
or..
2. Download the latest SD card image (1.9.1), and copy my rom folders, .cfg files, theme folders, etc …This project has been the most (technical) fun I have had in a long time !
