Hi guys,

Finally sorted mine out, I followed this guy’s Video, he explains the changes he makes to the gles config about 15 minutes in.
This changes did nothing, however, I did sort it out…

Edited the mupen64plus.cfg and found “full screen = false” change that to true, then beneath that, change the res, probably set to 640 x 480 to your screen res. Mine is alright, Its still 4:3 but its using my entire screen.

Smoothmalik, give it a go, if you need a hand, I’m pretty rubbish myself, but ill give you a hand

If you need higher render resolutions edit /opt/retropie/config/n64/mupen64plus.cfg for video-gles2rice or /opt/retropie/config/n64/gles2n64.conf for video-gles2n64.

You could also update your mupen64plus binaries. The current gles2n64 plugin uses the current screen resolution.

Ok, so I am guessing you are looking in mupen64plus.cfg like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh0n5PWN2lI&t=413

See where it says mode = 2, you want to set your mode to 1 or 0.
Mode 1 pulls key settings from InputAutoCfg.ini, and mode 0 uses whatever keys you set in mupen64plus.cfg.
I prefer mode 1 so will recommend setting it to 1 for player 1 and 2, typing the name of your controller as it appears in InputAutoConfig.ini (which I am guessing is ‘Sony Playstation(R)3 Controller’ just like the video), and setting up your keys up in the InputAutoCfg.ini file.

For player 3 and 4, just set the mode to 0 and delete the name, or set it to something else other than the name of your encoder, then only your ps3 controllers will be picked up!

Hope this helps, let me know if not.

Well so far so good.

I have one usb encoder and two ps3 controllers.
I have mame and psx setup and running. now I’m working on N64.

I found that if you are using retroarch and don’t want the encoder to play a part as a controller you just set your ps3 controllers in the confings for retropie.

now how do I set mupen to only use the ps3 controllers. It auto detects all three joypads js0=encoder, js1=ps3, js2=ps3. I see in the config file all three are setup and ready for use. Is there a way to disallow the encoder?

Hi,

I set my Retropie up, so thanks for the people who’ve helped me set it up :).
I have another question, I set up Mupen64Plus, however, the resolution is 640 x 480. I’ve pressed x before the game opens and tried various res’, but they just decrease the window and move it to the lower left side of the screen.

Is there anything I can try here?

what helped/did the trick for me to get it to work under N64 was manually modify the mupen64plus.cfg file. make sure to set all controllers there to mode 0 (manual configuration) otherwise your manual changes will be overwritten.
Nope, havent had any issues since. I still havent really figured out how to configure exactly to each specific emulator, but it doesnt really matter to me as the control schemes all work on each emulator. How’d you fix yours?
Under /otp/retropie/configs/ there are emulator specific folders which will overwrite the configuration in the all folder if put there.

also some Emulators (like GBA and N64) wont use the Retroarch.cfg at all. so you have to configure thos eseperatly anyway.

Does the middle X button on the 360 controller function? Maybe use that to exit ScummVM? I know mupen64plus (non retroarch) does not support modifier buttons, maybe ScummVM also doesn’t? I don’t know for sure though as I have never tried it.

All of them are enabled. There are only rice settings for Conker, MK64, Zelda and some other games at the moment because i tried to modify gles2n64 at the meantime. gles2n64 runs a little bit better now. MK64 splitscreen is working and you can use 1080p screen resolution with the right aspect ratio.

which emulator are you using? It was a pain for me to get an x360 and a ds3 working with n64/psx but got there eventually. Let me know and I can help with those two, video where I set up the controls for n64 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh0n5PWN2lI&t=242

After adding the GBA Bios file the default save state location is
cd /opt/retropie/emulators/gpsp

I am trying to set the default save state location to
/home/pi/RetroPie/savestate

I did the same thing with Mupen64 and RetroArch and it works fine, but I cannot find any way to change the default save location for the GBA. Any ideas?

N64 is a pain, and Mupen64 doesnt work as nice out of the box as the other N64 option. My recommendation is to use both (put roms in the n64 folder as well), and set up your Mupen with the Rice plugin as Floob suggested. There is a beginners guide to this here which might help you out a lot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh0n5PWN2lI covers how to change your video plugin as well.

Hi Matt,

I can think of two options for you to try:

1. Edit your retroarch-core-options.cfg file in /opt/retropie/configs/all and delete the mupen64 tags at the bottom. This should *hopefully* get rid of any bad settings you choose, and regenerate some defaults when you reload the emulator.
See here if you need some help with this, or copy mine (use the “rice” gfx plugin option though!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh0n5PWN2lI&t=658

2. Is dependent on if you are using a second config file in /opt/retropie/configs/n64. If you have a retroarch.cfg file in here, delete it using rm *filename*.

Let me know how you go!

I have a video that goes into this, check around the 4:40 mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh0n5PWN2lI

What you need to do is access the F1 menu in the emulator, go to settings then input settings -joypad mapping. Select User 1 Bind All and go through the button assigning. It wont actually ask for n64 buttons but I can tell you that the C buttons are mapped to the right analog stick; so when it asks for Right Analog Y- (Up) you would press the C-Up key on your gamepad.

Hope this helps, let me know how you go.

Hey guys,

So I use the n64 emulator that pulls from the n64 folder in the main roms folder, and it was working fairly well, but then I hit f1 and was playing with the settings and somehow messed everything up for this emulator. Is there a way to reset it. Everytime I try to play an n64 game now, it freezes on a black screen and I have to ctrl-alt-del to restart the pi.

I am on pi 2 running retropie 2.6

That’s right floob, thanks for all your awesome Videos!
they really helped me to understand some configs.

The thing that didn’t work out of the box with the retropie 2.6 Image was Mariokart 64 Splitscreen (as it’s gles2n64 by default).

Luckily gizmo98 fixed that as described here

Mupen64plus (ricrpi branch)

I don’t know if this also fixes the Audio issues of mike17, but at least I have no Issues with Mario64 and Mariokart64 with the updated Mupen64plus.

Out of curiosity has N64 emulation changed much over the past two weeks in terms of compatibility with the RPI2?

I’ll probably give this img a test drive if so. For the most part I really haven’t had any luck getting many N64 games working well.

I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I am trying to play n64 games with a psx controller hooked up via gpio (using marqs’ gamecon_gpio_rpi driver). For some reason, my left analog stick does not work in mupen64plus. All of the other joysticks and buttons work except for the left analog (which jstest confirms as axis(4-,4+) and axis(5-,5+)). I think it is because mupen64plus uses SDL for controller input whereas retroarch uses either linuxraw or udev.

Grumbel’s ‘sdl-jstest’ confirms that the left analog is not being recognized as an axis, but rather as a hat, i.e. HAT0. The D-Pad is instead recognized as <axis(0-,0+),axis(1-,1+)>

I think the issue might be resolved by modifying the gamecon_gpio_rpi module, but i’m not a computer science major and therefore am quite ignorant (though not totally ignorant) of ‘C’ programming

Where does mupen64plus save the savestates though? also is there a trick to get them to load since mine just crashes if i try to load a savestate (probably because it doenst save properly aswell since i cant find savestate files in the directory)

also make sure to set the mode to 0 in the mupen64config.cfg file. Gave me alot of headaches since it seems as long as mode 1 or 2 is present manuel configuration gets overwritten every start.

I purchased an N64 to USB adapter for my controllers to work with Raspberry Pi. I am having issues configuring the N64 controller for SNES.

When I try to play an SNES game it defaults to the joystick instead of dpad and doesn’t configure a y and x button.

Anyone else have this issue? Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi,

first of all I’ve never configured the N64 emulator before, but taking a look on your config:

[Input-SDL-Control1]
...
device = 0
...
[Input-SDL-Control2]
...
device = 0
...
[Input-SDL-Control3]
...
device = 1
...
[Input-SDL-Control4]
...
device = 1
...

it looks like you map /dev/js0 (your first hadware controller) to N64 gamepad-port 1 and 2 and /dev/js1 (your secound hadware controller) to gamepad-port 3 and 4.

try to change to the following:

[Input-SDL-Control1]
...
device = 0
...
[Input-SDL-Control2]
...
device = 1
...
[Input-SDL-Control3]
...
device = 2
...
[Input-SDL-Control4]
...
device = 3
...

That’s what I would do – but no warranty that it will work

Hi there,

try to update your mupen64plus Emulator, because gizmo updated the configs for mariokart64 to work properly by default (like always, consider to backup your system before making changes):

sudo ./home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh

and then update the script.
restart it after the update was succesfull and choose
“source-based Installation”
and tick only the mupen64plus Emulator.

This will reset your /opt/retropie/configs/n64/mupen64plus.cfg , so remember to set your hotkey to Exit the Emulator again.

You might also consider to unzip your roms; I think i read something about this making the Emulation slower.

With this, I can Play Mariokart64 and Mario64 smooth and without any noticeable crackles. Even the Multiplayer of Mariokart64 works now nearly fullspeed (only the race-start seems to be a bit slower).

I no longer see the attachment function on this thread.

I’ve pasted the configuration from within the InputAutoCfg file for the controller along with the contents of the Controller’s configuration from /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/configs here; http://pastebin.com/DQtBzDEU

I assumed I couldn’t just copy/paste from the RetroArch into the N64’s InputAutoCfg because the Retroarch mappings don’t include the C buttons.

Hey there!!!

When i saw your project, i directly buy a raspberry pi 2 !
Especially for mario kart on nintendo 64 !

I follow the installation correctly, did the apt-get update and upgrade, system starts quick, added the mariokart.zip to the n64 folder in roms via windows, it is recognized, but, the sounds is crackle and the video is very ugly, i can’t see anything correctly…

So i have seek trough the net to see if any configuration has to be done.
I tried to overclock to the higher one, the Pi 2. No changes for sound and video, but it is much faster ^^

i am a beginner in the terminal, i know a few commands, like apt-get, reboot, halt, measure temp…

Did i missed something???

Your answer will be much appreciated !

My configuration:
Raspberry pi 2
Aukru 2A adaptater
Samsung Evo class10 uhs1 16giga µSdcard
Samsung LCD 22′ linked to the pi with a hdmi/dvi cable ( i also tried on a 40’inch thomson on hdmi/hdmi, same result)
one design white case
Sony headphones jack 3.5mm
USB logitech G15 keyboard
USB dell generic mouse
Microsoft sidewinder gamepad
Playstation 3 controller

I’ve registered my N64 USB controller to RetroArch using the standard method. One thing it did not map was the proprietary buttons such as the Z trigger and C directional buttons. Mupen64Plus handles this automatically but I haven’t figured out how to do this for RetroArch roms. Has anyone else been able to figure this out? I’m pretty familiar with the retropie project at this point but I can’t find anything out about this. Running retropie 2.6 on RPi2. Thanks.

Running retropie 2.6 on Rpi 2 , I’ve tried 9 roms but can only get 2 to play,
Super Mario 64 and 007 Golden eye,

Banjo Kazooie (usa + Europe) looks like their going to play ok but freeze at the start of game play,
Donkey Kong kicks me back to the main menu,
another few just freeze when loading and I have to pull power,
I’m playing them all from the mupen64plus folder , any ideas why I’m struggling so badly ? I dont seem to have any bother with psx

Here is my .emulationstation/es_input.cfg

When I’m in emulation stations both controllers work correctly. Configuring input shows the first to connect ps3controller as SonyWireless. The second to connect shows up as gampad #2. It just when I’m in a game (nes, snes, or n64) that the second to connect controller takes over both player 1 & 2.

You can run them as zip files to keep size down however psx games run faster extracted well at least boot time
