    Mupen64plus-rpi is deprecated. Mupen64plus (https://github.com/ricrpi/mupen64plus) is the successor. If this emulator runs better we should replace the current one.

    i would like to try but i am new with unix so all this build, make, install… stuff is a little confunsing. So i just write down the my steps please tell me if i do sth wrong:

    $ sudo su //i am lazy
     $ cd /opt/retropie/emulators/
     $ git clone (https://github.com/ricrpi/mupen64plus) //without brackets
     $ cd ./mupen64plus
     $ ./build.sh
     $ make && install ./ 
    

    when i do build.sh it starts but then throws an error 403 while accesing github.com/ricrpi/mupen64plus/info/refs ????

    Did anybody here encounter the same?

    Hello. I can help you out there. All you have to do is cd into the mupen64plus directory and then: sudo ./build.sh

    After that completes then: sudo ./install.sh

    Thats it, make is already in the build and install scripts.

    In addition, I would like to point out that the newest build of the mupen64plus-rpi works pretty well. I am testing roms ATM and adding them to the compatablilty list, some need configuration to work.

    Hi NF3RNO,

    Could you please share your config files and perhaps the pre-compiled binaries? Do you know if it’s possible to quit the emulator by pressing a controller button (or a combination)? Finally do you have a compatibility list or some thoughts as I’m curious to know what you meant by “mupen64plus-rpi works pretty well” :)

    The only way to exit the emulator is by pressing esc on the keyboard. The configs are based on what game you want to play but there is a compatibility list that I am working on. The github is actually here. That is the one you want. The configs are in /root/.config/mupen64plus/mupen64plus.cfg. The gles2n64 video plugin config is in the home directory. The compatibility list is in the wiki of the github here, I am working on what games work with the current setup and trying to debug what I know I can fix with my limited knowledge.

    I’ve installed the ricrpi branch of Mupen64plus, and the installation went well. I’ve set up the correct binary path in /etc/emulationstation/es_config, but game ROM’s won’t actually run. I redirected STDOUT and STDERR to a file so I could see what’s happening, and oddly enough I don’t find any errors in the log file. Here is what I get when I launch any N64 ROM:

    It seems to work if you run mupen64plus from the command line. It just won’t start from EmulationStation. No idea why … still tinkering.

    Have you seen(this post) on the raspberry pi forums? If you find a solution let me know, there seems to be a few people with this problem. I personally do not have emulation station ATM on my pi.

    I never did get it to work from EmulationStation. I finally just gave up. :-(

    This is the command in emulation station that starts mupen64 and generates the seg fault.
    /opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 1 "cd /opt/retropie/emulators/mupen64plus-rpi/test/ && ./mupen64plus %ROM%"

    I don’t see anything immediately wrong with it (for instance, the path exists on my system and there is a file called mupen64plus there), but I’m not an expert. I do notice that none of the other commands in the es_systems.cfg file perform a cd first and THEN a separate run command. Maybe that is the source of the error?

    also, in the 1.- series of retropie, the mupen64plus needed no runcommand.sh! have a look at a back up if you have one,

    Press “F4” and type:

    cd RetroPie-Setup
    sudo git pull
    sudo ./retropie_setup.sh

    select “source based installation”
    select mupen64 and emulationstation
    build and install

    Trying a source based installation of mupen64 now, but it seems to be hanging on something. Last line logged is:
    LD mupen64plus-video-rice.so
    and it has been stuck there for at least an hour. Is that normal?

    Mupen64plus takes approx. 1-2 hours
    Emulationstation 30-45 min.

    How much space is left on your sd card? mupen64plus needs 750MB memory for compilation. The pi has only 512MB ram. So the swap file is resized at runtime from 99MB to 512MB. If there is not enough space we cannot resize the swapfile.

    It’s an 8 GB card and all that is on it is the RetroPie image and maybe 50 MB of roms. There should be plenty of space for a swapfile.

    I managed to open a z64 rom running the following command:

    mupen64plus /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/n64/poke.z64

    (it’s Pokémon Stadium)

    mupen plagued the terminal with audio errors and then I heard “Pika!” and the rom started playing. Some audio files were missing, a lot of the graphics were missing, and wow I have never seen something so slow, it’s pretty much unplayable. Also, as it’s not through ES, my gamepad wasn’t mapped so couldn’t do anything – anyone know how to fix this? If not, is there any news on ES using a ‘better’ 64 emu?

    I will try to install mupen64 & ES from source on a fresh image of RetroPie tonight. I’m also going to temporarily make the memory split 16MB, just in case memory was the problem (I think I had it at 256 before). I’ll report back on the results.

    Tried to install from source last night. Finished, but said mupen64plus could not install, see debug.log. I don’t know where to find debug.log, so I don’t know why it failed. Any suggestions?

    Mupen64plus is slow at the moment. In my opinion the only playable game is mario64 and the PI will never be fast enough to emulate n64 games at full speed.
    zelda ocarina of time –> too slow, graphic corruption

    True but I would be more than happy to be able to play just a few of the great games.

    Mario 64, Mario Kart, and similar games would be awesome. Shoot I would be so happy with just the two.

    But I do not see mupen64 after doing a git pull in the directory. Am I missing something?

    After doing an install from retropie-setup (had to go into unstable packages to install BTW and did not have to reinstall emulationstation, I now have a working version of N64! Even he controller was mapped! The only thing I am missing is closing the down the emulator with the button combo. Is there an easy way to set that up? Thanks for EVERYONE’S hard work on retro-pie!! It took a few weeks of tinkering but I have picked up on alot!
