    Update the setup script and do a source based installation of mupen64plus or a experimental of mupen64plus-testing.

    I am considering purchasing the ControlBlock as my power switch solution to my Pi 2 console project, but there is a question I have in regard to the GPIO pin configuration.

    You see, I installed a set of heatsinks on my pi, one of which has a fan on it powered by a 5v pin and GND pin (2 and 6, to be precise). I installed them to enhance my overclocking capabilities for PS1 and N64 games. I noticed, however, that the ControlBlock utilizes all the voltage and ground pins on the board. I can probably get around mounting the block on top of the Pi (heatsinks won’t allow for that), but is there any way I can continue to power the fan on the heatsink?

    I have a GPIO breakout board that seems to have extra voltage and ground pins on it, but do you think that would interfere with power draw? The fan is tiny; it can’t be drawing much power at all, and it hasn’t interfered with overclock performance thus far.

    Thanks for any advice you can offer, and kudos on the Retropie project!

    Has anyone had any luck getting this adapter work with the RPi2? I’ve searched near and far from different linux sites abroad. Apparently someone was able to cross compile the drivers from unbuntu to work with raspbian on a RPi1; yet to no avail have I seen anyone able to come out with a working method for the RPi2 with the 3.18.7-v7+ Kernel?

    Would be awesome if someone out there knows of a method and could share.
    I’m running the 2.6 version of retropie for the RPi2 strictly with the command line only, no startx/guis.

    My last 2 big hurdles with my project are getting this wifi dongle to work and then getting SSH to work again. I have fought tooth and nail with this issue:

    I have searched HIGH and LOW for solutions but all of the ones I have found still do not allow me to connect from my mac. I’ve deleted the known_hosts file and created a new one. I’ve commented out certain things in ssh_config and sshd_config but still came across the error.

    Alas, my RPi2 plays Nes/Snes/n64/& psx games beautifully. I have it overclocked to 1ghz, gnu_mem is at 384, sdcard size is 64gb class 10, bluetooth working with ps3 controller. Everything works great except for my wifi and the ssh.

    MK64 splitscreen should work now with gles2n64. Recompile and try again.

    Make inputautoconfig.ini match your controller configs in mupen64plus.cfg. The folder should be here: /usr/local/share/mupen64plus

    EmulationStation only shows emulators that have ROMs in their folders with the correct extension. So you just need to copy them over and it should work for SNES and N64. The easiest way for me is to just use the windows file shares that the retropie creates. So just browse the network and drop the roms in one of the snes/n64 folders.

    The expected extensions are in /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg:
    SNES .smc .sfc .fig .swc .zip
    N64 .z64 .n64 .v64 zip

    A few other things:
    it is sudo apt-get install lxde

    it is /etc/network/interfaces

    Make sure you’re fully up to date (as this affects the performance of a few emulators).

    My list of tested emulators:
    Gb (libretro) – 100%
    GBC (libretro) – 100%
    GBA (GPSP) – 100%, barring some titles with hacker’s title screens added
    GBA (GPSP-libretro) – 100%, barring some titles with hacker’s title screens added
    Genesis (libretro) – 100%
    NES (libretro) – 100%
    SNES (libretro) – 100% (on Rpi2 this includes SuperFX titles like Star Fox as well!)
    N64 (libretro) – 40%, some titles perfect, most titles laggy, some fail to start
    PSX (libretro) – 100% (with correct settings)
    MAME (libretro) – 100%, but you have to use the correct games to match your BIOS which is always an issue with MAME
    Doom (libretro) – 100%
    Quake III – 100%

    Everything else seems to work, but i cant exit out of mupen64plus. Is there a different hotkey combination?

    This is a Long Body if you dont want to read it all just read the bold.

    Up to this point I have had my Raspberry Pi for about a week, the past 3 days i have been trying to put an awesome thing, that amazing people, whom came from the GREATEST source of information – Google.com- on my Raspberry Pi I gave up the 2nd day and started to put raspbmc on it. I decided half way on getting it to work that I gave up to easy and would Google what I was doing wrong. I used an image for RetroPie because i got frustrated with installing raspbian -something like 9 time- the first time I had installed the image it worked except there was only like 4 emulators on it and I was let down – i did figure out on the 3rd day I had to put emulators on it and how to do it :)- got it running pretty good with gb and gbc but for some reason the gba needed a BIOS image from an actual gba -Googled and got it- I then started to look for the n64 emulator and the snes emulator -!no where to be found I had a ton of ROMS for them! still haven’t figure this part out- I decided that I was going to ssh into it and remembered that there is ALOT of information on how to get wireless internet through CLI – did everything from sudo nano /ect/network/interface (blank screen) to typing all the information in down to my ssid and password pressed CRT+X hit y and enter 2x gave me an Error (Error /ect/network/interface is not a file or directory) then I decided to get the raspbian GUI back to do it through the GUI -went to the CLI and typed sudo apt-get lxde and it said it was an invaild operation- So now I; 1. don’t have the N64 and SNES emulators. 2. I don’t have WIFI on the Raspberry Pi. 3. I don’t have a GUI to do it the easy way. I don’t care about 2 & 3 but the issue I am having is why have EmulationStation but cant get to the emulators?

    Oh and the Amazing thing was RetroPie with EmulationStation

    Update: I formated and reinstalled the image to the sd card, and I deleted the roms folder off the flash drive. and I got 8/ 30 roms for the n64!!! 0/35 roms for the SNES…

    Hey guys. I’ve been working pretty hard on the n64 side of emulation on my new raspberry pi 2 through retropie and emulationstation. I’ve been messing around with the different plugins for mupen64plus and saw that there is a plugin called mupen64plus-video-arachnoid that is based on project64’s video plugin. It isn’t available in retropie by default but I was wondering if anyone had had any luck importing this plugin to use with certain games to see if it might fix certain graphical errors.

    Thanks, here you go. It looks like they’re starting to do some of what I describe below with a new experimental package for mupen64plus that ends in “-testing”. You would have to install that from the retropie setup script. This makes an n64 folder in the roms directory for each video plugin. Then you put the rom in one of the folders to see which plugin works best. Not sure if they’ve included all the rice video plugin settings I changed, though.

    Hi,

    Great project!
    I’ve configured mupen64plus and it seems to work fine however, I’m struggling to get the load save state working.

    I can confirm that the save state shortcut does indeed create a file in ~/.local. When I attempt to load the saved state I see mupen64plus restart itself and then exit back to ES.

    I think I notice an error, “Bus error…” but I can’t be sure ’cause it’s there for a split second and then quits to ES. Not sure where the log is for mupen64plus…

    I’m using the retro 2.6 img for RPi2.

    So im new to Retropie but have been using retroarch for over a year now and was a bit surprised at some of the choices of emulators that have been used in Retropie. Now this might be down to comparability issues, i doubt RPi2 has enough beans to run bsnes for example but im want to used the best emulators possible. The following as what i believe to be the best emulators BUT might not run perfectly on the RPi2 i want to add them to find out….

    MegaDrive/Mastersystem/Sega CD/GameGear – Genesis_Plus_GX
    Sega 32x – Picodrive
    NES – FCEUmm
    Gameboy – gambatte
    SNES – snes9x_next
    GBA – vba_next

    You can use experimental module mupen64plus-testing. This module adds rom folders for every video plugin.

    Yes of course, I have the mupen64 and mupen64plus up and running. Everyone with some little bugs, but they do run.

    Even Floob replied :). Your error looks familiar to me, I think I had the same, and that it was fixed by adding the ‘sudo’ in front of the command line for the N64 and if I’m not mistaken, it was in the retroarch.cfg. but I could be wrong, I need to check on that at home.

    Here’s my setup on a pi2, showing n64, psx, and ports.

    I can get multiplayer mariokart 64 to work as well, but that took a lot of tweaking. Can cross post to the other thread where I explain how if you want.

    Gles2n64 needs some loving and i haven’t enabled default ScreenUpdateSetting=7 because Mario64 had some glitchs.

    I have already added all other settings.

    Edit: don’t use DepthBuffer=32 or there will be a create context error with the latest builds.

    You can also setup mupen64plus to use one of two available video plug ins on a per game basis. Note that using retroarch mupen64plus isn’t what I’m talking about here. You can setup the non-retroarch mupen64plus to use both the default video plugin and the rice video plugin that come with retropie.

    The rice plugin works with a lot more roms than the default plugin, and you still get better performance than with retroarch.

    It’s more emulator dependant than retropie itself. Almost every emulator until 16 bit era have large compatibility, standalone or retroarch cores. N64 emulation it’s not suitable right now for our raspi(and I doubt it will be perfectly playable someday), even with powerful computers N64 emulation is complex. I know some games work fine with mupen64plus but only a handful of them.

    The below settings were used for banjo kazooie in the below video. I use these settings globally with gles2rice, and have had a lot of games run just fine that way, though gles2n64 still feels more responsive, so I use it when I can. Games which also use the below rice settings on my system include Mario Kart 64 (for multiplayer), Banjo Tooie, Paper Mario, Perfect Dark, Castlevania, OOT, Majora’s Mask, Pilotwings 64, and Mario Tennis.

    When gles2n64 was used (Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64) in the below video, the default config was used.

    Hello All,
    I’m attempting to setup a Retropie for non-techy friends. I want the setup to be as clean as possible. I currently have a large collection of ROMs, but cannot find any compatibility lists for roms for Retropie. Ideally, I’d like to remove all roms that do NOT work for a given system (using Retroarch for all + mupen64 only) so that there’s no chance of the system “not working” for my non-techy friends.

    Is there a list or wiki or anything else there with compatibility of most roms for each respective system?? From my random game testing, it appears all SNES, NES, and genesis roms work without issue. There appears to be a large gap in n64 roms, many of which won’t even start. Thanks

    If you’re still using Mupen64plus, to fix the pause menu problem with Zelda, you just add “RenderToTexture=2” in the rice ini under the relevant rom’s section. You do get some texture glitches because of this but it fixes that game breaking bug right out. Plays beautifully on my Pi 2 now. You’ll also want to add, “ScreenUpdateSetting=4” (if I remember correctly) in the same place, to stop cut scene’s, menu screens and other things not working. (This is off the top of my head so I may have the formatting wrong just check it against other roms in the ini file.)

    I don’t have Extreme G2 so I can’t really help there but I’ve found that with the new pi the Rice plugin generally seems to be the way to go, but unfortunately it does require experimenting with configs like the above to get things running properly. So experiment with the settings and see if things improve.

    You can get things running great, it’s a pain in the ass but that’s N64 emulation for you.

    Thanks guys,
    I changed the video plugin to rice and it now works from the command line, but when i launch it from emulation station it comes up with the error

    failed to append config “/opt/retropie/configs/n64/retroarch.cfg”

    and loads up in default mode which is n64 with the crashed screens. From what i can tell this is an issue with multiple configs in retroarch as buzz stated in another post here

    does anyone have n64 working currenlty with the 2.6 image?

    if you are using a .zip file and placing the rom in the n64 folder, try unzipping the file and placing it in the mupen64plus folder and see if that makes any difference

    Hi all,

    So I have image 2.6 on a new SD card and configured it with 2 controllers. Everything is fine – runs megadrive/psx/n64/etc.

    Then I decide I want to try setting up 3-4 controllers mostly for retroarch and mame. The problem I am finding is that for RetroArch I am using retroarch-joyconfig to create a cfg file that I then append to the retroarch.cfg. The problem I am finding is for 2 controllers I used js0 and js1, but now I put 3 controllers in the JS starts at 5 and (I think) this is breaking my old configs due to the input_playerX_joypad_index parameter. I believe that is indexing the JS index which have now all changed.

    Is there any way to keep the js input sane such that with N controllers it will always start be 0..(N-1) ? Or does anyone know how to achieve my goal. I’d like my config to work regardless of the number of controllers plugged in.

    I am using 1 wired xbox controller and 2 wireless controllers.

    The picture was garbled on mine- I changed the overclock settings to pi2 and it seemed to solve it. then I made a few other tweaks in the configs to make it run a little better. This video was really helpful to me in getting my N64 games to work (I’m using a Raspberry Pi 2 model B. if you have a B+ it’s doubtful you’ll ever get any satisfactory results on N64 emulation.)

    (and yes you can use your wireless keyboard to play if you so desire)

    Hi, i have a fresh install of retropie working now.
    I also transferred a lot of n64 game roms to the n64 folder.

    Now i can’t get it working. How can i make the n64 emulator working?
    Is it allready on the system? Or do i have to install it?

    Never mind….. Can start it now…

    Other thing. Picture is garbled sometimes.. One big mess…
    And i have a wireless usb keyboard. Can i use that to play games?

    Sure, you can put roms in both emulators to use both via Emulation Station.

    mupenplus has a config file where you can set shortcut keys for exiting etc..

    Is there a way to configure the C buttons and Z trigger for RetroArch? Mupen64plus configures this automatically but RetroArch doesn’t seem to have the mappings.

    Basically. I sha1 hash the local rom data after extracting it from the rom files. Not as simple as a hash of the entire file for some systems like nes which has headers and megadrive/n64 which have byte swapping going on. That hash is looked up in a csv I maintain of hash to ID in thegamesdb.

    mupen64rice have some disadvantageous (see the links below), but it is OK for Mario Kart.

    Hello Floob, thank you for your reply. Using the mupenplus has it advantages, and a view disadvantages. Fir example it can’t run Zelda, Ocarina of Time. I can’t enter the RetroArch menu, I need to use a keyboard for exiting/quick-save/load/etc. The regular mupen64 can do all that, but have glitches.

    Is there no possibility to use a mixture of both rather then this or that?
