    Hi,

    i create the n64-mupen64plus folder in my Rom USB Stick and copy roms inside but I don’t see the second emulator of the N64 on screen.

    Do I have to do something else ?

    Hi.

    I do have a list yes – I included it in earlier releases but I also think I attached a rom list somewhere in this thread too. If you can’t find it then let me know and I can do another directory print of my roms. As for Mario Kart 64 – if you use the libretro N64 emulator (which I believe is used as standard), then yes the picture will be garbled in the menu screen. If you use a different emulator for that rom then you will find it works fine throughout (press ‘x’ when loading the rom to get into the emulator choice menu).

    The ‘exit emulator’ key is ‘start+select’ as standard yes, and also <Esc> on the keyboard. You can set it to whatever you want but I think you need to edit the retroarch.cfg file to do that. Also bare in mind that not all emulators use retroarch / libretro so that config file does not cover all emulators, just the most common ones. You will find some of the ports need configuring via their own setup files / menus, for example.

    Sorry but I don’t know about that joypad, but I can’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work. The rumble feature may not work though (it doesn’t with my PS3 pads), so if there is a ‘non-rumble’ version for cheaper then you may want to opt for that instead. I mainly use a Thrustmaster Mini T Wireless which does the job nicely – if anyone wanted the config files for it then let me know and you can have them to save you a long winded job setting them up!

    I can’t see any reason why a 320×480 screen would not work but I have never tried this so Im not really the right person to ask! One thing I will say is that you will have to adjust the resolution to suit the screen (I have set it to 720p for RetroPie and 1080p for OpenELEC). Also, I notice there is an official Raspberry Pi touch-screen that has been released today which I think is 800×480 resolution. Might be better to go for that for maximum compatibility.

    My first attempt of a theme and there’s no way I would have been able to do this without phrazelle’s guide and the amazing retroplay_[mutation_canela] theme by InsecureSpike (which I hope sees the light of day here, whenever he comes back to the forum).

    The maximum resolution on the CPS3 games (i.e. Streetfighter III 3rd Strike and the likes) is 384×224 (or 496×224 in widescreen mode). Even on the N64 – the majority games are less than 640×480, with only a few games using 640×480. So to me, 640×480 is the ideal resolution. I would imagine this puts much less strain on the CPU / GPU and awards better performance with the emulators.

    Hmm, I would say probably not, but I have never used .mkv’s in OpenELEC so I can’t say for definite. If its something that is widely used by folk then I have no issue in including it as standard in a future build, as long as it doesn’t come with unpleasant side effects?

    As for the missing files – what directory are you using for your roms, is it the ‘mame-mame4all’ folder or the ‘arcade’ folder? I have tried both with no such problems so I’m struggling to replicate your error?

    Lowering space on OpenELEC – yes, you can lower the partition size to whatever you want (within reason). I have set it to approx 1.3GB and as standard it is using around 600MB of that space for the addons I installed. If you are planning on adding more addons then you need to consider they will take up more space. Anyway – you can set the partition sizes in the ‘partitions.json’ file in the ‘os’ folder of the NOOBS files. If you read through this thread you will find more detailed instructions I posted for somebody else (ironically they wanted to increase their partition size for OpenELEC!).

    Sorry if this is the wrong forum.

    Can mupen64plus support gameshark cheats? And if so how do we get them working with retropie?

    I’ve exhausted my google-fu trying to figure this out and any help would be appreciated as I’d love to get some of the Mario Kart mod cheats running!

    okay so I really have no idea why this is happening but essentially whats happening is I can access all my roms fine. Im running mupen64plus rice with a wireless ps3 controller. I can start mario kart just fine. I can open the game, go through the menus, up until I get to the page where you select a player (1p) then suddenly none of my controls work anymore except for (B). I can use (B) to get back and then all my other controls are back. Even weirder is that in my other roms, NO controller inputs are working! I cant even get past the intro scenes! please help… I’ve spent so many hours just trying to get it to this point..

    I have a RP2 running RetroPie 3.0

    I bought several different RetroLink controllers (NES, SNES, Genesis, N64) and I have my PS3 controller I would like to use wired. I want to set it up so I can plug in whatever controller I want and have it automatically assigned as player 1 of the corresponding emulator, e.g. plug in the N64 controller, and have it work as player 1 for any N64 games. Or plug in the PS3 controller (wired, not messing with bluetooth yet) and have it be player one for my PSX games.

    I have spent the last few hours messing with this am I am getting no where. I tried to plug them all in one at a time, configure the buttons using the built in configure input from the main menu, and it’s not working. The controllers will work in Emulation Station, but when I start a game they aren’t recognized as player 1 (usually the keyboard is player 1).

    How do I tell what “port” a controller is registered to, and how do I change it? I would really like to get this setup as plug and play.

    I’m having exactly the same issue. What I did:

    in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg

    and commenting out in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/GenericUSBJoystick.cfg

    I am having the hardest time getting both my N64 controllers to both work. I want to use them for c64, atari, nes, snes and n64. I want to bind both shoulders buttons to quit the rom and return to the emulation station…I have this working in NES.

    input_enable_hotkey_btn = 4
    input_exit_emulator_btn = 5

    Attached are the configurations below…what am I doing wrong? I know how to use the jstest /dev/input/js0 but I don’t know what to bind those buttons to for each emulator…can anyone help?

    I noticed the rewind_enable = “false” is actually configured as such in the general retroarch.cfg (RetroPie 3.0 final) so configuring it specific for PSX or N64 is obsolete right ?

    I do think the rewind_enable = “false” had also a big impact as the buffer will be constantly overwritten which causes alot of IO on the sdcard. Maybe too much for the PSX emulation to be smooth and “rewindable” at the same time.

    I just did some tests with the N64 emulator which also wasn’t that smooth and is infact now pretty smooth with rewind_enabled = “false”.

    good news!

    floob, i said i think video_threaded should be true – my understanding that it puts the video process to a seperate thread, which is good for multicore systems like the pi2.

    i was curious so i just checked and i have it set in fba/mame and psx already. i don’t believe i ever changed it, so i’m thinking it must have changed in 3.0 final.

    reasons are given – i’m not sure i’ve had any out of sync stuff (only in mupen64plus, which isn’t libretro anyway), but i can’t also be sure that it boosts performance noticably. it’s difficult to test given that none of the frame rate counters seem to work in libretro!

    “basic” ? hum… To the side plug and play, we agree. Recalbox is much easier to access. For scalability by the user, retropie is more open to an advanced user.

    Emulators used are the same as retropie. But Recalbox use the Update system for update the emulators core. All the emulators are not included to avoid having too big distribution. Only the more “stable” and “compatible” known are inclued. Retropie is open and you can update yoursalf the retroarch, mupen64, piFBA, etc, etc core. For the “performance” it’s subjective point no ?

    For support, indeed, as you say the retropie community is much older and therefore larger. Recalbox a smaller community, but we try to help as much as possible all users and there is a good group of users that help as they can. :).

    For conclued and replay to the topic subject, for me retropie and recalbox is two very nice open source distributions for players. We have the choice and that is verry nice and good for all of us. :)

    Retropie is a raspbian based, distribution. More open, you can add packages yoursalfe, make your choice of emulator for all the system. Try a update core or a alpha / beta core for a new system quickly. But you necessary edit configurations files for a working system.

    Recalbox is a buildroot based, distribution. You have an update system option. It’s plug and play solution. You have a only one configuration file if you want change options and a majors configuration avalable by the emulationstation menu. But you can’t add paquages yoursalf. You need to wait an recalbox update for that.

    For me, retropie is more easier for advanced users and recalbox is more easier for newbie users. But both give you a realy good experience of retrogaming on raspberry. Both is open source and both have a nice and good community. After, it’s everyone to make his choice according to his expectations and his tastes =). It’s open source, try it ! :D.
    There is no competition to see who have the biggest. (simple because it’s me :p).

    Hi,

    These 2 videos will give a start point to show what you need. The Pi 1 will emulate most systems pretty well, but would struggle with N64 and maybe PS1. SNES and Megadrive should be fine.

    I can confirm this! This is also my 1st post.
    I use a ps3 controller and i have no trouble with insert coin since i changed:
    input_enable_hotkey_btn = "16"
    16 is the PS button, so i doesn’t conflict with select.

    The shortcut PS Button + Start can quit this 4 emulators, but when I load a game in lr-fba I have to ssh into it to reboot the system since neither the keyboard nor the controllers work.
    If anyone can identify the problem please enlighten us!

    So I’ve finally got 3.0 f1 installed and have been having a play with it an noticed that there was a custom config option for each rom! I think this is an awesome little option (especially for the N64 which is finicky as hell).

    One hiccough: any hints on how to use it or what to enter?

    I put a ROM into the /gba folder and it shows up, but when entering the ROM, it looks like it’s about to run, then it goes back to emulation station.

    For reference, I put my ROM in via USB.

    So my hotkey-Button is “Z” – that’s the button on the back and all the “hotkey-functions” are working great, for example Exit Emulator, save oder load a slot, etc. BUT The funktion of the Button Z won’t have any effect in the gameplay until I uncomment it and reload the emulator.

    So either key “7” is working in the gameplay or it has its function as a hotkey_enable but both at the same time seems not working. I got the same behaviour when I use some other button on the pad.

    Any suggestions ?
    All other systems like NES or SNES works just fine.

    Hello folks!
    I’m unable to load GENESIS & SNES rom into my mini SD card.
    This will crash the Restropie loader script.

    I have a White (or black) screen just after the “Emulation Station” logo.
    I tried to add only one Rom on the GENESIS or on the SNES forder and it do the same. Freeze…

    To un-freeze the process, I just have to remove the Genesis/Snes roms from the retropie Folders and reload Restopie (I still have access by FTP most of the time when it is freeze)

    The rom’s names are very basic.. no special characters of space.
    I have lot of other Roms already on the SD card and they are working perfectly (ATARI 2600-7800, PCE, GameGear, N64, Sega32X, C64,LYNX, NGP, Atari ST, AMIGA and CPC)

    My Raspberry is a Pi2 (using turbo or Pi2 mode) and using a Lexart 633X 16GB card (tried SAMSUNG 64G; SAnDisk 8G) – Power is 2000amp and using HDMI cable
    using the wireless Xbox pad + BT keyboard
    and of course, using the last retropie 3.0 setup.

    I didn”t have any problem by using the Retropie V2.6 on the same kit!
    Any help will be very appreciate as I tried many combinations and none of them works.

    Hell All, First Time Poster.
    Just got my RetroPie Running, and notice a few issues. I am using a pi 2 B+. On some emulators (n64, snes) right now the HDMI audio is choppy, other emulators (NES) work fine. Does anybody have any thoughts on this? I would like to stick to HDMI Audio.

    my controller “USB Gamepad ” was not listed in
    config\n64\InputAutoCfg.ini
    File modified => block [USB,2-axis 8-button gamepad] copied and renamed to “USB Gamepad “.
    Now it works perfect.

    I have here:
    \configs\n64\mupen64pls.cfg
    changed the audio OUTPUT_PORT
    and that works :-) Now I cand here sound effects.
    But if I change the Input-SDL-Control1
    settings it does not have an influence.
    After reboot the settings are reverted to key(..).
    Have enywhere a hint for me what I should do that my both USB-gamepads works?
    (in other emulator, e. g. fds, nes controller works well).
    I would like to play that game with my daughter…..

    I hope somebody can help me.
    I use Raspberry Pi 2 B with retropi V3.
    I wot like to play Mario Kart with N64.
    Now I know if I push a button after start emulator I can choose an emulator.
    If I use lr-mupen64plus fonts are not readable, but my USB controller and audio works well.
    If I usa another emulator (mupen64plus-gles2n64) fonts are fine, but my controller and audio don’t work :-(
    I tried some changes in \configs\n64\mupen64pls.cfg but it didn’t has an influence. The file looks after rebooting if it was before.
    Can you help me please? What should I do that mupen64plus-gles2n64 audio and my both USB gamepads are working?

    Gidday Drake,

    There are a LOT of posts regarding issues with the F310…

    I’ve been using both the dual action and the F310, but am only setting up at present. I’ve hit a few issues with the controller config too and found that the different settings options on the F310 (direct toggle switch underneath and the mode toggle on top) will radically change the input the controller is sending.

    How comfortable are you with the terminal side of emulation station? I was setting up mainly for SNES and N64, and had to use jstest (ie “jstest /dev/input/js0” where “js0”) is the first controller to figure out what input was being sent through, and fiddled with the different controller settings until I found something that worked. It’s slow, and arduous, but was about the only way.

    Also I’ll apologise if it appears as though I’m speaking down to you, I’m just trying to cover all bases!

    I am familiar with the compatibility list for the roms and which plugin works best, but is there anywhere that has a list of the specific settings for the plugins to get as close to perfect emulation as possible?

    I’m specifically interested in optimizing zelda OOT and MM

    Yes- what’s happening is you’re watching an outdated video that still refers to old folders that are no longer part of retropie. Place your ROMs in the n64 folder and you’ll be fine. The wiki is a more accurate resource than videos for current folder paths as it is accurate to the latest version of retropie.

    If you wish to use other versions of mupen64 you can press js0 or any keyboard button as your ROM loads and switch the default emulator there.

    Hey! I’m running retropie 3.0, on raspberry pi 2. I’ve been using floob’s videos to set things up, and I’m trying to do some setting for N64. Problem is, under es_systems.cfg I can’t find Mupen64. Also, when I do an SSH connection to bring in roms, I only see a N64 folder, no Mupen64 Folder. any idea what might be happening?

    I’ve been fiddling with compiling the gles2n64 video plugin from https://github.com/ricrpi/mupen64plus-video-gles2n64 and after after the “make all” in the unix dir I copied the mupen64plus-video-n64.so lib to /opt/retropie/emulators/mupen64plus/lib/mupen64plus/. But I ran into troubles…
    First of all the .so file was about 30kByte larger than the original and secondly when I started the mupen64plus emulator the screen stayed black (I only got sound).
    I could use some pointers/help on which source is actually used for the original .so lib files and/or why I just get a black screen when running the compiled video plugin.

    Which will sort out the black screen issue

    Hey guys,

    Hoping someone here can help me as I’m about ready to bang my head against a wall here. I have 4 ROMS that seem to be working fine for most people or at least on a list of functioning games I came across on Reddit but I cannot seem to get them to run. I know N64 emulation isnt great to begin with though. I’ve tried a different version of each ROM incase that was the issue. The 4 games are banjo kazooie, paper mario, majoras mask & Zelda OoT. With both Zelda games it gets as far as the following when booting :

    With paper mario it gets to the title screen & crashes when I press start & with banjo it gets to the file select screen then crashes. I’m using a Pi2 with retro pie 3.0 which is over clocked to Pi2 & allocating 512 memory split. I’m using the Mupen64 plus with the Rice plugin as from what I’ve read this gives the most stable results. I’m sorry if this is a stupid question I’m new to the raspberry pi & Linux also.

    I am so close to having the perfect setup. Im running ES/RetroArch from OSMC on an overclocked (Turbo) Pi2. Im using a Rock Candy XBOX 360 controller.

    Emulators Im using are N64 and nes. They both work fine but Id like to configure the NES emulator to use the left stick for movement rather than the Dpad. This is what I did…

    – created a .cfg file for the controller from the front end and swapped the left stick and dpad controls.
    – created a retroarch-joypads folder under the nes config folder and placed the new auto config file (RockCandyGamepadforXbox360.cfg) in there.
    – edited the nes retroarch config and added this line at the top. “joypad_autoconfig_dir = /opt/retropie/configs/nes/retroarch-joypads”
    – restarted.

    It sort of works… When I load the game (super mario bros) it appears that controller input is disabled, but if I wait about 90 seconds it starts working!!

    So: 1. Is there a better/faster way of remapping the joystick for a single emulator?
    2. Where can i find that info?

    I need to set up a N64 USB controller and am hang an awful time gettigneverything set up.

    I have a N64 USB Controller and need the yellow keys, and Z button to work also another major issue is there is NO “Select” Button on this controller, So it is trying to make the Z button the select button and exiting my game and all kinds of other unfortunate events. Is there anywhere that has a pre configured layout of files for this Controller I can Copy and Paste? and also I am having trouble understanding how to set up the Save, Load and Exit settings as well to the controllers :( Please Help.

    Hi,

    After countless hours of tweaking and tinkering and absolute frustration! I finally have RetroPie working and loading all my games. BUT one thing I realize is that the controllers don’t quite work right at all.

    What I’ve done is purchased Retro NES, SNES,Sega and N64 Controllers that are USB.

    I am a Noob by every aspect of the book on raspberry pi and Linux so none of it really makes sense. ANYWAY….. I need to know (The Simplest way) to make every controller work for EACH of it’s corresponding Emulator. I need to just be able to plug in the N64 controller and load a N64 rom and BOOM its working!
    (Is this possible?)

    Also how do I set it up where I do NOT need a keyboard to save, exit etc. ?

    Thanks in advance and please remember I need the Simplest way possible to do this without a bunch of hassle ….cause believe me setting this up all right and getting wifi to work etc was stress enough Thanks
