    2.6.0 is pretty much the same as the others in terms of retroarch.

    You only need to put this in one place – it depends if you are using auto controller files or hardcoding changes in the retroarch.cfg file.

    These 2 videos should answer the detail:

    It may also help if you upload (as attachments – need to rename to .txt) your retroarch.cfg and USB,2axis8-buttongamepad.cfg

    If you did want to put it in your retroarch.cfg (i.e. if you will never use a different type of controller) then the only one you want to edit is
    /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg

    One simple thing you check, is make sure the quotes ” are the same in the file, as in they arent slightly different styles, either way, let us know how it goes.

    Another noob here – I’ve been trying for several hours to sort this but I can’t figure it out.

    I installed 2.6 to an SD Card for a new Pi 2 yesterday. I have a SNES style USB controller that I’ve successfully configured with Retroarch. It works fine in NES games, but I’m having issues with SNES games – works in menus but doesn’t in gameplay.

    The main problem I’ve having is configuring the Select + Start exit key to save/quite the game and go back to EmulationStation.

    From various threads/google, I’m supposed to update the retroarch.cfg file OR the USB,2axis8-buttongamepad.cfg file. I’ve added

    input_enable_hotkey_btn = “8”
    input_exit_emulator_btn = “9”

    To the USB cfg file in
    /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/configs
    and the retroarch.cfg files in
    /opt/retropie/configs/all and /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch

    But it still doesn’t work.

    Am I doing this correctly? Is there something different with 2.6 – most of the answers I’ve found online were for 2.3. Is this still the correct method and which file is the correct one?

    Hello out there

    I’m using Retropie since it’s early versions and it has always worked like a charm.

    Im using both the RaphNet nes2usb and 4snestousb circuits. Both are recognized as a jostick with multiple axis and buttons.

    Since 2.5 / 2.6 im missing axis. When i test the devices with jstest /dev/input/jsx I’m shown 2 axis (X,Y) instead of 4 / 8.

    I think this could have something to do with the generic joystickdriver but i can’t get it to work so it recognizes all the axis again.

    can anyone give me a hint? :)

    Thanks very much.

    Still no luck tonight. Tried another usb controller with a new retropie img. Alas nothing. The appears to be someone on Reddit having a similar problem from a short while back. That kinda gives me hope that im not mental. But still….I have no clue what is keeping my buttons the same even though I change them in the fba2x.cfg file. I’ve tried going through retroarch configs and all manner of other things to try and work this out….I’ve read through tonnes of stuff, but nothing….I hope I get it sorted as it really puts a halt on me finishing my mini cabinet and I’ve ordered the 7 inch screen now….Bleh! There seems to be no reason whatsoever for this. I now know why the Raspberry Pi is so small…..It’s so when you finally crack you can lob it far enough never to have to see the damn thing again.

    ***Cries!!***

    All I know is that this config….

    [Joystick]
    # Get codes from “jstest /dev/input/js0”
    # from package “joystick”
    A_1=0
    B_1=1
    X_1=2
    Y_1=3
    L_1=4
    R_1=6
    START_1=9
    SELECT_1=8
    #Joystick axis
    JA_LR=0
    JA_UD=1

    ……is what I get regardless of what I change it to….On 3 separate joysticks/pads.

    Got my RPi2 2 couple of weeks ago…. and think its time to fresh install given that things seemed to have calmed down a little. My previous setup had Roms reading from USB with gamelists saved within respective folder using some of Floob’s manual scrapping tutorials. I figured this is a good way to head just incase the SD gives out…. updates etc…

    Previously I used the following links to set it up…. however not sure if they were correct / working properly.

    http://electricgardener.net/2014/04/03/retropie-moving-games-usb-stick/

    I would like to know if anyone can point me in the direction of a complete up to date tutorial to do the following:- (note, I know how to point to the emulators… along with Mame cfg path etc)

    – How to format USB to Rpi. (Previously I used Fat32)
    – How to setup permissions.
    – How to point windows samba share to the USB.
    – How to use Floob’s manual scrape within USB rom folder. (previously it returned Level 10 errors…. tag-mismatch on gamelist)
    – How to transfer previous High Scores / History in Mame.(a mate clocked up a massive score in Galaga…. epic)

    Thanks in advance……

    Bad SD card? Did you get it off eBay? I understand there’s some problems with SD cards sold on eBay.

    Another option might be to try a different package to put the image on the card

    http://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/installation/installing-images/windows.md

    One other thing I would try it to unplug everything from the USB ports to see if one of the devices is causing the kernel panic.

    One of the reasons I use StartX is to access the Network settings as I use a wireless USB dongle to connect my Pi to the internet rather than rely on cables.

    Hi Folks

    I have a Raspberry Pi b+ and i use a PS4 Controller via USB. All works fine.
    Now i buy a BT USB Dongle (ASUS BT-400).
    If i type hciconfig, i see that the Dongle was found and its UP and working!

    i start the retropie_setup.sh – under SETUP – install PS3 Controller driver
    the Setup finish whitout errors.
    after them i try to connect the PS4 Controller but seems they can not pairing.

    sudo ./sixaxis say thats co controller was detectet.

    what can i do?

    Thx a lot!

    No the roms are in the normal place. I transfered them using a usb not filezilla as my wifi had gone mental when I was trying out the new sd img. I’ve googled the hell out of this and there’s not too much going on about the subject. But what I did find was that im meant to change the exact file your saying to change.i may have to make a video just to prove im not a mental . I’ve tried a couple of other games and the buttons are pretty randomly spread out but as before nothing changes when I alter the config.im going to have another look into it tonight.

    Using a Buffalo classic USB gamepad at the moment. Looks like a SNES controller but has buttons to set and clear turbos on it. Seems like it’s a decent quality, wasn’t too expensive. Has anyone tried using a ps4 controller? Wondering if that would be possible.

    Hey there Bigdrogba,

    I just had the controller connected before powering on the Pi2 and it worked from there. I should note that I’m using the Play & Charge kit that came with the controllers, but from what I can tell this is more than the 360 Play & Charge kits that only supplied power as the XbOne ones pass control information down the USB as well.

    Whilst mine is an “official Microsoft” one, I don’t see anything special from the exterior apart from a charge light which turns off when the battery is fully charged. I will try this again with just a standard micro-USB cable and let you know the outcome.

    As Gonzo28 mentioned, you can confiigure the controller via the retroarch-joyconfig command. There is a straight-forward way to do this on the Wiki here.

    I haven’t uploaded any ROMS or BIOS files to the Pi yet and only got so far as setting up Quake; and then just spent an hour or so playing that!

    I’ll be busy for the next couple of days, but will try to do some more testing in the coming week.

    So I have a raspberry pi whose usb ports dont work, so I want to plug buttons into the gpio pins and use them for the emulators. Has anyone done this? I have seen adafruits guide, but it doesnt work with the newest version of retro pie.

    I’ve succesfully installed it on another raspberry pi today without a hitch.

    The first thing that comes to mind. Have you tried it on another SD card? or perhaps you can use the berryboot option to install it onto a USB stick.

    Have you checked how much room is available on your SD card?

    Hi everyone.

    I use a Dual PSX Adaptor. the exact device definition is the following:

    009: ID 0810:0001 Personal Communication Systems, Inc. Dual PSX Adaptor
    (check that by using $ lsusb)
    Dual PSX Adaptor

    I use jstest /dev/js0 and jstest /dev/js1 to test them but they behave very strange. If i press the Analog Button on one controller the little red LED lights up. For some reason i can’t have them both activated but only one at a time. now the buttons work even if the red LED isn’t shining, but the axes can only have the maximum/minimum values 3740 and -3740 and nothing in between. If one of the controller’s red LED shines though the axes can be precise and can have values between.

    Did someone get 2 controllers to work with such a dual psx adaptor? maybie the reason is because i have 1x PS1-CTRL and 1x PS2-CTRL each ..

    @Mike
    you recommended using them, do they work for you?

    Hi…I have a nice little Snes USB gamepad too…That does exactly the same as my joystick….The Right Shoulder button should be button 5 and it doesn’t do anything.

    This is what i’ve done now….

    I have another micro SD card so i’ve installed a new retropie img onto it…Then only added Marvel VS Capcom (This is a game i know has a fair few buttons to it) and the neo geo bios. I then got the /opt/retropie/emulators/pifba/fba2x.cfg and did this….(amoung other things..)

    [Joystick]
    # Get codes from “jstest /dev/input/js0”
    # from package “joystick”
    A_1=5
    B_1=5
    X_1=5
    Y_1=5
    L_1=5
    R_1=5
    START_1=9
    SELECT_1=8
    #Joystick axis
    JA_LR=0
    JA_UD=1

    Nothing changed to the button config at all again. I can only assume this isn’t the file i need to change…Or i need to de-activate one somewhere else that is acting as the primary.

    I really like what you did there. It looks nice and clean. You may want to check your blog, it looks like some of the images are broken. Great job on modding the XBox controller too.

    The one problem I’m trying to crack is to make sure we can shut down the box without messing up the image. I’m going to back it up once I have it where I want it, but I want something which will detect the power down and issue a shutdown command. I’m thinking maybe doing something like this (http://mausberry-circuits.myshopify.com/products/shutdown-circuit-use-your-own-switch) and then wiring up a single switch to a power strip which will control the screen, pi, amp and lighting. I believe that circuit should work to correctly power off the pi appropriately.

    Either way, all the woodworking equipment is at the parent’s house so the build is coming along slowly. That and both myself and my stepfather are perfectionists so we tend to make progress at a fairly slow pace. I don’t think I’ll have time to work on it this weekend but I’m hoping by the following weekend we can get some time and finish screwing/gluing the wood together and start painting.

    I’ve ran through a load of things again and yup…Im back where i started.All roms are where they should be…Basically anything you’ve said to do in your youtube vids i’ve done…The controller i have is saving as DragonRise Inc.Generic USB Joystick when i do register retroarch controller. Ive done the JStest thingy again and all buttons are exactly where they are supposed to be…There are 11 and they all work exactly to the right position when pressed. I can’t understand what’s going on.

    This is what i’ve done to fba2x.cfg….Like ive said the buttons are random buttons in random places so i can test if they move. It seems just to be for piFBA im having trouble…Other emulators are going great with it.

    So, HEllo.

    This has been going on for 3 days and i can’t sort it. Ive actually had to sign up to a forum for the 1st time in years to get help…The guides and youtube vids aren’t working and im going to have a mental breakdown. I got my Pi about a week a go. 1st one ever. Managed to config it all and fill it full of roms….I have the DragonRise Inc.Generic USB Joystick which has it’s very own .cfg file but for no reason i can’t work out piFBA an it will not work with the buttons i want….I have 8 main buttons numbered which all work in jstest. They are numbered 0-7….I want to just have 6 buttons 3 bottom and 3 top to spank some fighting games in a little cabinet im building…

    Problem: I reconfigure EVERY .cfg fill i can find…Seriously….It’s any of them now as the main ones definitely aren’t picking up on my re-binds. Main problem is i can’t get button 5 to do anything….nadda….nothing, So my only assumption is that although im altering the button commands in all the seemingly right places im missing something and have cowered on here to beg for help.

    Im adding a picture to see if that inspires anyone to help…

    ….BTW….Great forums here….Ive gone from no idea to full on RetroPi addict in 2 weeks all done with the help on these forums…Only problem is there’s no one asking this question.

    Hope this all makes sense as im writing this in rage/desperation.

    Hi,

    I was able to install my snes usb controller for all emulators using the following code:
    sudo chown pi /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
    cd /opt/retropie/emulators/RetroArch/installdir/bin
    sudo ./retroarch-joyconfig -j 0 >> /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg

    I get asked to press all keys on the joypad and then its configured for every emulator. Simple and effective.

    Now here is the problem.
    I am letting my gpio on my raspberry B+ emulate keyboard strokes.

    Is there a way to setup my ‘keyboard’ for every emulator with a similar approach as described as above?

    For my ibuffalo SNES controller I use the following. With this config, Select+R saves state and Select+L loads state. Select+A cycles up save slots and Select+B cycles down save slots, so you can pick from slot 0-9 to save and load from up to 10 different states. Also hold Select+Y for slow motion and Select+X for fast motion which is nice for speeding through some of those long game intros. Press Select+Up and Select+Down to turn your volume up and down. And lastly, use Select+Left and Select+Right to cycle through shaders to change how the graphics look, some of which look and run great but some can cause slowness depending on how powerful you pi is and your overclock and memory split settings.

    input_device = “USB,2-axis 8-button gamepad ”
    input_driver = “udev”
    input_b_btn = “1”
    input_y_btn = “3”
    input_select_btn = “6”
    input_start_btn = “7”
    input_up_axis = “-1”
    input_down_axis = “+1”
    input_left_axis = “-0”
    input_right_axis = “+0”
    input_a_btn = “0”
    input_x_btn = “2”
    input_l_btn = “4”
    input_r_btn = “5”
    input_enable_hotkey_btn = “6” #
    input_exit_emulator_btn = “7”
    input_save_state_btn = “5”
    input_load_state_btn = “4”
    input_state_slot_increase_btn = “0”
    input_state_slot_decrease_btn = “1”
    input_slowmotion_btn = “3”
    input_hold_fast_forward_btn = “2”
    input_volume_up_axis = “-1”
    input_volume_down_axis = “+1”

    i had this dream of my rpi running retropie with only a bluetooth usb device conntected for internet and keyboard/mouse combo, power cord, and hdmi AND the bluetooth keyboard connect at start up. it also has a track pad which is awesome. i easily got the wifi to work and after a ton of work i finally got the keyboard to work AND work on boot using bluez tools (those tools need work). suddenly the ps3 controller i had configured doesn’t work anymore (usb connected). hours of work down the drain. i went through the process in retropie tools of re-connecting and configuring it to no avail. now the keyboard dosn’t work and bluez tools throws errors. i am starting over today from scratch. are those bluez-tools conflicting with my ps3 controller. I have experience with linux but sometimes i just can’t help but feel linux makes extremely simple things momentously complicated and difficult. has anyone gotten a setup like this to work?

    Hello,
    I’m having trouble starting screen of the emulation station at Raspi. 2
    I get installed for the ES no USB gamepad. When Raspi 1 B .. and Retropie 2.3 everything works fine. But when Raspi 2 and Retropie 2.5 or 2.6 I only get the Tatatur to run to. In gamepad 1 menu it jumps directly to pad down and in the end it skips the OK button.
    I have already tried with 2 USB pads, also with USB Hub and without.
    Can anyone help me ??

    What I do is put my roms on the usb then when I plug my USB in I mount it and copy it over. I mostly do this because its easier than connecting my pi to the LAN as I don’t have a wireless adaptor.

    Mounting is trivial (mine mounts on boot by modifying fstab).

    You need to verify you have the right ROMs. You can do that with either of the popular ROM manager tools, clrmamepro or Romcenter. I prefer clrmamepro but it’s really personal preference. If you want to try clrmamepro, I wrote a tutorial

    You probably have a newer rom set. RetroPie uses an older set of ROMs, based off MAME 0.37b5. The tutorial would help you too.

    Hello!
    I’m stuck like so many others. I got the RP image that I thought would help avoid problems but I haven’t gotten MAME to stop giving a missing files error for my roms except for a few (Like The Simpsons or the original AeroFighters) that have always worked.
    I have checked to make sure they are the right rom set,
    I have checked that my es_systems.cfg file is:

    <system>
    ..
    <path>~/RetroPie/roms/mame</path>
    <extension>.zip .ZIP</extension>
    <command>/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 4 “/opt/retropie/emulators/mame4all-pi/mame %BASENAME%”</command>
    ..
    <platform>arcade</platform>
    <theme>mame</theme>
    </system>

    my mame.cfg is:

    artwork=artwork
    cheat=.
    rompath=/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame
    samplepath=samples

    My SNES and Sega emulators work great.

    Am I missing anything?
    I’m its probably something extremely simple lol.

    Also I loaded some of my roms with a USB initially but they are all on SD now, not sure if that makes any difference.

    Not sure what else to look for.
    At this point should I just flash my SD and start over?

    Thanks for all your help and thoughts! I’m so glad for this blog! :D

    Which image are you using? The 2.4 image didn’t have it enabled by default so you’d have to go into the setup script:

    CD RetroPie-Setup
    Sudo ./retropie_setup.sh
    Update script
    Reboot
    From the setup script select usbromservice and enable/update that and see if it changes anything.

    I’ve only transferred ROMs with a flash drive not an external hard drive but I don’t know if that makes a difference.

    You could also look in the ROMs folder on your external hard drive and see if it copyed it in there or rename the ROMs folder to something else and see if that changes anything.

    Hi all,

    I’m pretty close to getting RetroPie working. I’ve got my RPI2, powered usb hub, controllers and a 16gb microsd card with RetroPie for rpi2 image installed on it.
    I’ve got around 5GB of nes, snes, N64 and megadrive roms ready to put on it but I’m not sure how to load them onto it.

    I’ve read that after plugging my external hard drive into the Pi when RetroPie is on, it should create a bunch of folders on my hard drive, I can then plug the hard drive into a windows machine and transfer my roms into the appropriate folders. Plug the hard drive back into the pi, boot up and retropi should transfer the roms onto the SD card automatically.

    I’ve tried this but when looking at the external hard drive from my computer there’re no folders to place my ROMS into.

    Can anyone explain why the folders aren’t being created on my external hard drive?

    A few possible reasons why this might not be working that I’ve thought of:

    – The external hard drive I plugged into the rpi2 already has a load of files on it, at the root there are 3 folders: Films TV Shows ROMS
    – This could be the name of the folder that’s automatically created by RetroPie already and is confusing it.
    – The hard drive is NTFS formatted. – My installation of RetroPie isn’t setup properly.

    If anyone has any suggestions that would be greatly appreciated.

    I’m wondering if anyone is able to provide me with the folder structures and names for my external hard drive and I’ll just manually create the folders and place them there myself?

    Thanks!
