Ooo that’s my favourite game! It goes in the megadrive folder (as the port was for the Sega genesis/megadrive) If it came in a zipped file make sure it is unzipped before you add it to your ROM folder. There are two sources for that game- one from some Japanese dude which is very simple and archaic (no music) which I’m guessing is the current version you have. there is also another from some american dude complete with music and intro which I much prefer. Due to the issue of copyrights revolving around ROMs I can’t provide the source to preserve the integrity of the retropie project but it may or may not have something to do with a company named airwalk studios and it may or may not have a .bin filetype ending….

Does this happen in emulation station as well or is it only in certain emulators such as SNES (2 player with pocketnes has issues and made it seem like my controllers were having problems but it was just a bug in the emulator)? Try testing to see if just the retroarch autoconfig files work without your custom additions to the retroarch.cfg (so change the input_autodetect_enable from false to true and comment out the joypad buttons you added) and see if that changes anything. Also be sure to only have one controller plugged in when running retroarch config (and be sure to make sure no buttons are sticking before configuration). Let me know what you come up with. I can also give you my working configs when I have access to them later if nothing else works for you.

If they are vertical scrolling games (1943 etc.) Its unlikely that you’ll be able to get a fullscreen (plus it would look wonky to make a vertical game wide screen- the airplanes would end up looking like tanks) but for games that aren’t vertical, mess around with the video settings by pressing m or x right before your ROM loads (if you are on image 2.4 or later) floob shows how to use it in this video:

There may also be an issue with black borders for your whole system and this video shows how to remove them here:

Solution for problem one- in order to save manual edits you have to select quit emulationstation from the start menu within emulationstation- if you just shutdown or reboot the whole system those edits are not saved. If you feel this is a big enough issue you can submit it to aloshi at the emulationstation github:

    https://github.com/Aloshi/EmulationStation

For issue 2 you submit your report on the same github page.

Controller configuration issues related to retroarch can be submitted to-
    https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch

For all of your issues be sure to check the current listed bugs to see if anyone else has posted the same issue. Also be sure to check this forum as some people might have had the same issue as you.

And since you never responded to your previous post indicating people not willing to help from this forum (https://www.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/update-wiki-for-newest-version/) -as promised, instead of a blog I set up a series of videos for setting up retropie 2.6 that might be helpful to you and may answer some other questions you may have.
https://youtube.com/channel/UCYdB7MovoH6yCzkVjTXeiIw also check out floob’s videos as he knows an awful lot more than I do.

If you are using the default SNES emulator (pocketsnes) it has issues with two player- at least in my case. Only the 1 player controls worked even though my second controller has been registered and is working in other games. If you have a Rpi2 then you can install the snes9x next experimental package from the setup script and it worked fine for me after that. See this video (at about 7 min) on how to do that:

Generally speaking the only emulators that work with zip files are mame and FBA.the rest will need to be unzipped.if you configured your controllers with the retroarch config tool in the set up script and they still aren’t working it might be good to check and make sure your the folders you placed your ROMs in are utilising retroarch cores. If they aren’t they may have their own separate configs (I.e. GBA, FBA, mame, mupen64plus, etc.) I’ve made a few videos on youtube going step by step on what I did when I set up my pi, but my controllers may be different than yours- floob has some good videos that are much more thorough than mine which may be useful to you.

I upgraded from a B+ to the RPI 2 and the 2.6 image was the way to go for me- it has a few more options by way of emulators as well as some reorganisation. As far as updating from the 2.5 image I don’t know as much about that- I’m not entirely sure about the layout of the setup script at the moment as some has changed a bit- but when I’ve used it before I would install updates of emulators from binary and then if there were more recent updates I would install them from source.

As far as updating the setup script options with updates to be more clear, that is in the works:

I don’t think you can just rename a ROM to make it in colour. You’d have two have 2 roms (just like you can’t take an old gameboy game and put it into a gameboy colour and expect it to be in colour) you’ll need 2 separate roms- one for the gameboy and one for the gameboy colour.

It isnt necessarily a hotkey combination as those aren’t currently supported. You basically have to choose a key you don’t use as the key exit. See this video:

if you are using a .zip file and placing the rom in the n64 folder, try unzipping the file and placing it in the mupen64plus folder and see if that makes any difference

The picture was garbled on mine- I changed the overclock settings to pi2 and it seemed to solve it. then I made a few other tweaks in the configs to make it run a little better. This video was really helpful to me in getting my N64 games to work (I’m using a Raspberry Pi 2 model B. if you have a B+ it’s doubtful you’ll ever get any satisfactory results on N64 emulation.)

(and yes you can use your wireless keyboard to play if you so desire)

I had the same issue. What I did was I unzipped my rom and placed it in the mupen64plus folder, I also overclocked my pi to the pi2 1000 mhz overclocking, then I changed the video plugin from mupen64gles2 to mupen64rice in the mupen64plus.cfg file. Once I opened up the game again in the emulator it fixed it, then I exited back out and changed the screen update setting from 6 to 4

see here for details: (i used it just tonight and it worked perfectly.)

I’m using an SNES controller and all the buttons I’ve used work- one button clicks, one button skips the cut scenes, and a combination of buttons open up the menu. I am unaware of a way to reconfigure controls for Scummvm (though the libreto-scummvm core might incorporate the retroarch configs which you could probably change but I’m not sure where the developers are at in being able to incorporate that into retropie) I know there is also the potential for an on screen keyboard but that may be tedious to work with if only a few of your buttons work.

in short, outside of modifying the source code I do not know of any way to easily change scummvm configs- If you do figure something out though I would be interested to know.

    @Justinbeaird

Due to the RetroPie project being an ongoing project, there are always new developments as new technology and code changes emerge (especially once the Rpi 2 was released.) We’re in the thick of it and it may take some time for the community to sort out bugs and come up with a comprehensive process that fits most people’s needs. The world of Linux based programming has typically been identified with a very supportive community with a strong emphasis for the individual to learn to solve problems themselves and then pass along their learning to help others. This forum is no different.

While there may be a few main developers of a project to moderate and maintain the source code, many people in the community contribute to this project. You have to understand that they are doing this voluntarily and aren’t being compensated other than meager donations people choose to give. They could use their expertise to monetize on this project but they provide it free to share with everyone- because they are good people. I for one thank Petrockblog, Buzz, Gizmo98, floob and all the others for their hard work on the project so that we can have the opportunity to relive the nostalgia of our childhood.

That being said, I can understand that it may be frustrating at first to figure out the world of Raspberry Pi and RetroPie and how everything is laid out, and I would also agree that the Wiki can be improved- but it starts with us.

I’m currently working on setting up my Raspberry Pi 2 that I just received in the mail and I am creating a simple blog illustrating the steps I have taken to get it working, once I finish I would be more than happy to share the link with you. (and I will try to update the Wiki if at all possible)

Megadrive folder is where you put the genesis ROMs. (It depends on what country you are from- in the United States it was known as the Sega Genesis and other places it was known as the Sega Megadrive -confusing I know.)

depends on what image you are using. starting with 2.4- the controls are built in to work with your controller. If you have an older image of retropie I highly recommend updating to a newer one. it has worked for me swimmingly.

The only way to remove the emulationstation loading screen is to modify the source code and recompile it. I leave the loading screen because I’m too lazy to change the source code and I want to give aloshi and nils due credit for all the hard work they did in developing emulation station.

The main updates typically involve the emulators as code is improved, emulation station usually stays pretty much the same. You’ll need to be connected to the internet when you update but the easiest way to update things will always be through the setup script.

Have you configured your controller for retroarch? The controller configurations for emulation station and the actual emulators are different. When I configured my controller I had to manually edit retroarch.cfg
