in reply to: Permission denied… #84459
ahh ok, you can just do this:
sudo chown -R pi /opt/retropie/i have done that without any problems, i also have done the same for /etc/emulationstation/ and /home/pi/
well, just move them to retroarch.cfg and it should work properly
fyi – i changed the input_screenshot_btn to input_pause_toggle_btn – i figure having the ability to pause any game is more important since I can take screenshots from the menuin reply to: Permission denied… #84450where is the file located?
/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/configs/ ?in reply to: Auto Scraper v0.6 #84436if i combined -use_cache -use_gdb _use_ovgdb together, what would the process of the app be?
and would using -skip_check still use gdb but just not check first?
in reply to: Updated Setup Guide #84435very nice, i love the page which details other people’s arcades for inspiration
in reply to: Pi hardware questions for new project #84434Pi + SD Card:
=====
you may want to consider getting a larger SD card. are you getting the B+ model? everyone would recommend that you get the B+ model over the B these days for this project. the B+ model uses microSD by the wayi think after i installed and updated everything to the way I like it, things were over 5GB already. after adding in the No-Intro romsets (not including N64 and PSX). I’m now sitting pretty at around 31GB. That will likely increase as I add in more and more games from systems like TurboCD, SegaCD, N64 and PSX, images for the gamelist and even the atari 2600 lol…
This system can certainly play more systems and the base install will likely only increase over time too.
You are right on the money with the faster read speeds though. Do not even worry about write speeds all that much.
=====“charger”:
=====
oh gosh, you NEED to buy a power adapter for your pi. it will consume too much power for your computer’s USB port to handle. get one that says it is 2A.As for that “charger”. I would ignore it for now… I have contacted the seller to ask if they offer one with the power adapter combined and even then I want to make sure it MATCHES the specs of other commonly used B+ power adapters. Electrical components are not something you want to cheap out on, they can burn your house down while you sleep or cause serious electrical injuries to you or even the Pi.
FYI – the B+ pi has a more reliable power supply with a lower current draw, thats why its often recommended, especially for such demanding projects like this one
=====controllers:
=====
I have no experience with these but I hear nothing but great things about their quality. I personally use a PS3-style USB wireless controller from Logitech (the F710 model). I prefer using the analogue sticks for fighting games.Setting up your controllers may be more challenging than mine but I do know from reading other people’s posts here that they do work.
=====heatsinks:
=====
Yes! Due to the nature of emulating, you will basically NEED to overclock your Pi. Do not worry, its easy. As a result, you will NEED heatsinks. I have two, a copper one for the CPU and a smaller aluminum one for the RAM.
=====we have the same controller! the Tomee SNES-style USB controllers right?
add those last two lines to the bottom of your retroarch.ch like floob just mentioned.Here is my hotkey setup for that controller, i enabled rewinding in the retroarch.cfg file and set the slowmotion to 10.0
enjoy :)
input_enable_hotkey_btn = 8
input_exit_emulator_btn = 9
input_load_state_btn = 4
input_save_state_btn = 5
input_state_slot_increase_axis = -1
input_state_slot_decrease_axis = +1
input_menu_toggle_btn = 1
input_rewind_btn = 3
input_screenshot_btn = 0
input_slowmotion_btn = 2in reply to: Menu sounds #84432I believe that only the scrollsound is implemented into the system at all. It would be neat to have a scroll sound again!
Please check out this documentation. What is the “old” theme you’re talking about. Can you post a link to it for me? I want to take it’s .wav file and add it to my current theme too :)
in reply to: Simple-Dark theme #84426I believe that is the “helpsystem”
Please have a look at this documentation – https://github.com/Aloshi/EmulationStation/blob/master/THEMES.mdAre you going to use new “screenshot” images for the system browser?
Please consider adding in an Atary Lynx theme, this has been added to the system nowdid you add the raspberry pi xbmc repository? i believe its a different one than the default lists
i also think that this is an upstream issue, i tried to build xbmc a few weeks ago too but it appears that there have been some major changes made to it and it will not currently build on the raspberry pi from the same source i was using
in reply to: How do I prevent systems from being added #84272you would have to build from source, selecting the packages you want, do not update binaries if you do not want all of these things to come
the update binaries option will get EVERYTHING, its meant for ease-of-use but i have since switched over entirely to just building from sourcethe great thing about it is you can add more emulators later if you don’t want them all right away
in reply to: Best playstion settings? #84252i can’t seem to get my RaspberryPi to function normally for very long with such overclock settings… I know it will boot… most of the times… but it usually ends up crashing after a bit of time for me.
I did notice that it helped a lot with SNES’s star fox :)
ON TOPIC: are any of the other PS1 games giving you trouble? I do not believe that PS1 support will ever be perfect on the Pi due to the limitations of it’s performance output but it can certainly play quite a lot of games at a great speed.
in reply to: Xbox 360 controller – No need for usb hub! #84231hey untakatapuntaka, let us know how the xbox 360 controllers work out for you. remember to install the driver for it
in reply to: Full speed NES/SNES/GEN? #84071ok i tried both games, both turned out just fine for me. make sure you are overclocking your RPi to TURBO
in reply to: Full speed NES/SNES/GEN? #84068@ vintagamer – i will try goal two as well in a few minutes, i will make a double-post later with the results
in reply to: PSP as wireless gamepad #84067wow this is a really neat idea, using another console as a controller lol
in reply to: another simple question… #84066hey kugwa:
i believe with cyberduck (or any other SFTP client) you simply have to right click on the file itself, and select MOVE or something similar to that. type in the directory explicitly: /opt/retropie/emulators/gpsp/raspberrypi/or connect over SSH and move it from there
in reply to: Full speed NES/SNES/GEN? #84020@jakobud:
wow this is an old thread… I will test out mike tyson’s punch out later tomorrow (i am recompiling everything again on a new memory card)can you name any other NES games which have issues for you? (or games for other systems even)
in reply to: Major Sound Lagg #83853can you try turbo OC? i have mine set to that and so far I don’t appear to have the same problem with chrono trigger, which other games are you using?
in reply to: Splashscreen Randomizer #83849thanks for this! i will use this with my retropie setup later
in reply to: PSX Emulation #83803open the cue files in a text editor, make sure that it lists the filename of the .bin file EXACTLY, this should be case sensitive too
in reply to: Error with RetroPie Setup scripts #83798i do not believe you will lose out much from the “update script” option as its not changing any of the emulator’s binaries. coming down the pipe there are new and updated binaries, including a libretro game gear!
i know that the scripts included with 2.3 work just fine as they are
in reply to: Controller Problem (Tomee SNES) #83796hey dover19,
i have 4 of those controllers with my retropie
the issue is either with the controllers themselves (sticky buttons?) or with the fact ES may be too sensitive
i know of one REALLY EASY way to fix this, could just be temporary though depending on the controller itself. press everything on the controller REALLY hard, then re-register it in ES and in retroarch
in reply to: Error with RetroPie Setup scripts #83794hey floob, i know that on the 2.3 image it works out like that but when compiled from source it will not
i’m unsure of what to do here as i know that a new version of retropie is on the way in the coming weeks and months. the image by itself should operate fine, are you updating binaries or something?
so when i build everything from source, it uses this “new” path
in reply to: A 256gb possible? #83689totally try out 256gb and let us know the results if you’re feeling adventurous!
in reply to: Overclocking Freeze ES.. not emulation? #83640increase your over voltage to 6 immediately. in fact, just use the built-in OC settings for TURBO
you can safely remove the force_turbo line as it defaults to 0 anyways
in reply to: Simple questions #83470aren’t the folders all in the /roms directory???
in reply to: Installing BIOS files #8335132X does not require any bios files to be installed. the emulator is “good” its just the speed for some of the games can be off. totally worth checking out though
in reply to: Killer Instinct in Mame #83336thats only for neogeo games being used in FBA, they require the neogeo bios
in reply to: Killer Instinct in Mame #83329hi, i have a list, just a text file, of all the 37b5 games and it isn’t on it. i’m sure that you’re aware that the version of MAME that is included with retropie is supposedly “only good” for 37b5
have you tried FBA? i got a few “mame” games to work in that too. i ended up splitting the games between FBA and mame depending on which one works “best”
in reply to: Installing BIOS files #83312Sega CD also requires a BIOS file to be placed in to the /bios folder
the neogeo and GBA bios files do NOT go in there at all
the GBA one goes into the emulator’s folder
the neogeo one should be a collection of files all zipped as “neogeo.zip” and placed into the /roms/fba/ folder along with the other neogeo romsin reply to: N64 controller issues #83309oh man, i always ask this first so don’t get upset:
did you run the “Register RetroArch Controller” option in the setup?if you did already, maybe you’re N64 emulator is not a “libretro/retroarch” compatible one. which means you may need to setup the controller manually…
in reply to: Delete emulationstation from boot #83264can you run the /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh again? do it with sudo
from there you can select SETUP and then disable the ES loading at bootin reply to: Unable to access files and run programs #83262did you install the xbox 360 drivers?
EDIT: that was a stupid question i just asked you… sorry
which command gives you the error?
in reply to: Game launch/stop callbacks #83261hmmmmm, not with “RetroPie” but maybe with libretro… or “RetroArch”. you would have to check out it’s documentation though and dig into it, they do seem to have a LOT of configurable settings
