Yep, unfortunately it’s both versions of this compilation.

Mame4all pi runs games a lot better and keeps them in their original aspect ratio.

Yeah, make sure your keyboard is connected to the Pi and when a game starts press the tab button. That should bring up a menu and you can configure input for your USB pad.

I did use Pisnes for a while but it doesn’t support the dpad on my xbox pad yet. Went back to the retroarch pocketsnes. I mostly annoyed that no emulators run Super Mario All-Stars…

You could go into es_systems.cfg and change the run command for you emulators from 1 to 2. That should fix it.

You might find that quit a few games run like crap with the retroarch version of mame. The mame4all-pi is much better.

It might be due to es lagging and by the time it caught up you have pressed left or right again causing it to skip an emulator. It does it with me sometimes.

Try using winscp instead of cyberduck. It’s faster, easier to use and runs flawlessly.

It seems so yes. If you try other games they work fine it’s just this rom. It must be something to do with the emulators.

This is a known problem will ALL Super Mario All-Stars roms. There’s no known fix and it happens with every emulator. Sorry.

You can edit the game list and can rename any roms that are incorrect. You could also try scraping again and change the pixel size of the box art so it loads faster and less lag.

Cave story should work straight away after flashing the retropie image. If you press F4 in emulation station it takes you to the console. What does it say?

I have my pi at 900Mhz arm, 500mhz sdram and 2 over volt and all the CPS 1 and 2 games fun full speed 60fps with excellent sound. Oh I have memory split to 256mb on my 512mb pi. It’s odd that your getting this performance. What resolution you have your TV set to? Try lowering to 720p/60hz (what I have) or if that doesn’t work try reinstalling fba from source. It could be that your sd card is corrupt?

Couple of things you could do. First set the pi to a lower resolution. If you have it set to 1080p then it’s going to take a performances hit so lower it to 720p or even 480p. The next major thing would be to overclock the pi to 900Mhz (medium) as this should eleviate any stutter problems. You could also try updating the pis firmware which could improve overall performance. Also try going into the retroarch config file and see if there is anything you can edit to improve performance, like sample rate etc. Play around with it settings and see if you can ‘fine tune’ it. Important! Make a backup of your sd card image, then if something goes wrong you can roll back to your backup. Saved me numerous times!

You could set your pi to output at 480p 4:3 but then for some reason it cuts about 5% off the image at the top and bottom. You could (what I do) set the pi to 720p then change the runcommand.sh to 2 and overclock the pi to 900Mhz which should stop any slowdown.

I had a similar problem. If I turned the pi on with the TV not turned on then it wouldn’t connect and display anything. I had to go to the config file and set the hdmi as a hotplug. Type ‘sudo nano /boot/config.txt’ then find the hotplug entry and remove the # in front of it. Now if you boot up the pi without the TV on it will still recognise it when you switch to that relevant HDMI socket.

You need the bios file to run the games correctly. For to the retropie wiki and there is a walkthrough. Find the file on the net at then place in a specific folder.

Some mame games won’t have sound as they need extra sound files (samples). Also the retroarch mame emulator is not that good I would recommended pi-mame instead.

The emulators will only show when you have the specific file type in the ROM folder for each system.

You best bet it to enter the retropie script and download pisnes for source. Once this is downloaded and compiled you should have a folder called Pisnes in the emulators directory. There will be a file call snes9x.cfg that

Ok, the best emulator for mame imo for the pi at the moment is the mame4all binary version and not the retroarch core version. Petrockblog just added it to the script so first download that from source. Then the only roms compatible with it are the mame 0.37b5 rom sets. You can search for this on a well known swedish site. That should work!

This problem is due to a script that runs when you start the emulators for the Gameboy. It’s also does the same for the nes and snes but you probably don’t notice as much. First off you need to set your display to a Halloween resolution I’m boot config so I would recommend 720p. Then view the hidden folders at /home/pi and there’s one called ‘.emulationstation’ go into that folder and there should be a file called es_systems.cfg. Open it up in a text editor and waiting the commands for opening the emulators you should see it says runcommand.sh 1. Change the 1 to a 2 and save. Reboot, try he emulator and it should be fixed!
