Maybe it is the same problem like with the PS3 Controller. Normally the emulator exit function sits on select + start. Using this button setup some FBA and Mame titles won’t insert coins. Just change the emulator exit function to an other button. For my PS3 Controller I use left trigger + start. Now coins works like a charm. Maybe this will help!

1.) Just start the setup and choose what you want to do. But beware, sometimes updating results in things not working properly anymore.

2.) ES uses different places in a defined order to look for gamelists and artwork. I think rom folders come first. Just have a look at the ES docs.

3.) Yep, seen this in another post some time ago. Take a search. I think for everything up to the PSX the libretro cores a just fine. They are for me!

2.) I don’t play much NES roms, but maybe you have to live with that. It’s emulation an some things will never be perfect. Just a suggestion!

4.) Disable the OSD switch somewhere in the retroarch.cfg!

5.) As the Pi has no bios or backup battery, no! But I think there is one available for purchase?!

    1. What config to edit depends on what controller you use and if it is autodetected. If so, you have to edit the matching config files for your controller. If not, retroarch.cfg is the way to go.

    2. What do you mean by this???

    3. ScummVM is not part of RetroArch in RetroPie. The standalone is not capable of exiting by using special keys as far as I know. Even the button mapping is hardcoded in the sourcecode. To change this, you have to modify and recompile the source.

    4. and 5. Don’t know

I used this tools for MAME and FBA in the first place. Even to get rid of unwanted games like mahjongs, slot machines and so on. You don’t have to do this by hand. Romlister is the way to go. To get the database for FBA … visit Barry Harris site, download the Windows FBA version from previous releases (029730), fire it up and extract the database from somewhere in the menu.

Anyone tried to do this copy solution on SFIII? I thought I tried but it didn’t work. Maybe I have to give it another shot.

    Whoops, Roo was faster …!

You still have to use the scraper to create the gamelist. Without the gamelist ES will not show any boxart at all. Be sure to use the right switches with the scraper. For me it worked out great.

Emulationstation 1 had the switch -gamelist-only. Doesn’t seem to work in EmuStation 2. Looked after it myself but no solution so far for me. But I cleared out all the clones anyway while sorting the roms. I think I have only SFIII and one other game that need to have a second rom to run. I can live with that.

I don’t know for sure, but I think the samples can be also put directly into the zipfile of the game. If I remember it correctly, I’ve done so with dkong.

For ScummVM the controller mapping is unfortunately hardcoded in the sourcecode. Don’t know you came up with this idea?! I had the problem that all buttons were mapped to “stupid” buttons on the PS3 controller. I changed the sourcecode to my wishes and recompiled it. The fastest solution for me. Maybe you will give it a shot.

Get away from installing anything over RetroPie Setup. If you flash the image to the SD card, you are already good to go with mame4all.

I think it is as it is with the Pi 1. The best way to speed up PSX is to get a Pi 2. N64 isn’t even perfect at the Pi 2 yet!

Without the changes to the hotkey, the coins in ’88 Games didn’t work in FBA and Mame. So I suggest it is an issue with retroarch and not the FBA core!

Scraped around a bit, works really good now. Thanks!

    I stumbled over 2 bugs, I think.

When scraping FBA or NeoGeo with the -mame and the -no_thumb switches, the scraper generates the thumb listings anyway. Scraping MAME with these 2 switches, no problem.

When scraping Megadrive, I almost get an unexpected EOF error on nearly every file. Looked a bit closer. Seems to occur if the file ending is anything else than .md!

I tried to scrape GBA today, but it doesn’t work for me too.

    Command..

    scraper -add_not_found=true -image_suffix=”” -no_thumb

I have this game “007 – Everything or Nothing (UE) (M3) [!].gba” and the corresponding sreeenshot.

This is what the gamelist looks like ..

Run the raspi-config, somewhere in the menu you can force the audio to the 3.5mm jack.

Mame is still 037b5, but you can use the FBA libretro core (runs fullspeed now) to emulate the majority of the arcade games. I have about 630 games with FBA (plus NeoGeo) and 170 with Mame. I prefer FBA so I put everything to FBA and only the unknown ones by FBA to Mame.

Here are the 4 PS3 auto controller config files for retroarch modified to my needs. Take the right one for you or even all and override the existing ones (backup the old ones if you don’t like mine) in this location:

    \opt\retropie\emulators\retroarch\configs

This gives you “Left Trigger + Start” as exit key and an analog stick which works exactly like the dpad.

Only if you stick with piFBA. Anyone doing this? The libretro core now runs full speed and gets along with a lot more games than piFBA.

Maybe you should try and set the hotkey (select) to another button. You will stumble across another problem when you use select as the hotkey. In some games you can’t insert coins with these setting.

I change the hotkey to the left trigger and no more problem with inserting coins. Maybe this will fix your exit problem too.

And that was exactly the intention. Not for PSX for me, but I wanted to play all the other emus with the analog stick instead of the dpad.

    Tried it, doesn’t really work.

Before scraping I put all my images into the images folder and start scraping with this command …

    scraper -add_not_found=true -download_images=false -image_suffix=”” -mame -no_thumbs

Gamelist is generated, but no images on not found games.

    For example …

I have the screenshot for the game abcop.zip. This is what the gamelist look like:

    <game id=”abcop” source=”mamedb.com”>
    <path>./abcop.zip</path>
    <name>A.B. Cop (World, FD1094 317-0169b) </name>

What emulator are you talking about?

Never really came across .rom, and for .iso files the only possible emulator could be psx. If so you should stick with the .bin format. Don’t know if psx rearmed also plays .iso files?!

To update the PSX emu you have to enter the retropie setup, update retropie setup, leave retropie setup, start it again, install psx rearmed from source!

    To get to retropie setup…

    Enter this folder …

    /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/

    Type the following command …

    sudo ./retropie_setup.sh

After all, welcome to the world of arcade roms! ;-)

As you already noticed, even if the roms perfectly match the emulator, it doesn’t mean that they will always work.

I tried all 3 R-Type games available for FBA, the only thing I get is a black screen although they perfectly match the emulator version. You have to live with this.

The alternative was to get the games for mame (completely different romset of course) and they are playable but without sound.

Luckily R-Type is ported to every known system you can think of! ;-)

    I found another slight issue.

I have images which the scraper doesn’t find online. So there is no image entry in the gamelist created and ES can’t display the images I already have.
