I have noticed that before I run the PS3 set up that if I run /etc/init.d/bluetooth status The bluetooth is up and running but after the PS3 install if I run /etc/init.d/bluetooth status it shows failed even with a reboot
than if I uninstall the PS3 controller Bluetooth is up and running when I run /etc/init.d/bluetooth status

Also when after the PS3 install when prompted to Unplug the USB connecction to PS3 controller I get a error message sometimes
Traceback (most recent call last): File “/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/joy2key.py” line 49, in <module> event = js_fd.read(event_size) IOError: [Errno 19] No such device

Note I have experienced this with retropie 3.2 and 3.2.1 multiple clean instals
I also test this with a CSR 4.0 BT Dongle and A Plugable BT 4.0 dongle
also tested with and with out powered USB hub

Hello,

My Pi2 is part of a 2 player bartop using 2 USB controllers which I nearly have configured nicely.

I want to at times take the Pi2 out and use on the big TV, but then use 2 xbox wireless controllers instead.

Can I have both these setups or is it best to just clone my sd card onto a spare one and just swap over when required?

Thanks

If this issue/solution is already posted, please forgive me, as i have searched several ways and cannot find the answer i need.

So, i have laid down a fresh image of RetroPie 3.2.1 using Win32DiskImager on my Win7 64 machine.

I have added Kodi 15, connected my wireless, configured my PS3 Remotes, set custom splash screen, etc, etc, etc.

Now time to make a backup image of my work. Pop the SD card out of my Pi2, into the Win7 machine. Create an image of my SD card using Win32DiskImager.

I have several spare SD cards laying around, so i write the image to one of them using Win32DiskImager.

Great! All done! …at least i though so.

Splash screen comes up, everything looks god. Not even a prompt to configure an input device. Perfect!

Nope. Keyboard and PS3 Controller are unresponsive. I PuTTY into my Pi2 and run lsusb.

All seems well. I am pretty sure the issue seems to be due to an incorrect ID.

Can these be refreshed, or after imaging do i have to setup inputs again? Whichever it may be, can i please get a little direction as to what i need to do from here? i am pretty handy with computers, so i dont necessarily need a play by play, but i will not frown upon one either.

Please help!

Hi all, sorry if this is an old topic but I just can’t seem to find the answer I’m looking for.I am very new at all this so apologies in advance. The issue I am faced with is getting my non genuine ps controller working wirelesly over Bluetooth, seems to work fine plugged in, Bluetooth works also just not together, I am able to grab a genuine ps3 controller (that hasn’t even been plugged into the unit before) pair up straight away then just had to configure in retropie like any new controller.if I look up my configuration files for controlles it has both the genuine and non genuine files for both usb and wireless.Retropie is up to date running 3.1 or something along those lines, and all info I find on this subject seems to be a year or more old.any help would be much appreciated.

I can see networks and have tried various methods of connecting to various wifi networks.

I have a Raspberry Pi 2, running RetroPie 3.2.1 in a BerryBoot Multi boot (alongside OpenELEC and Kali)

I have tried editing the wpa_supplicant.conf file and also using the wizard in the RP setup script. What could i be doing wrong? I can connect fine in my other OSes.

Please help. I cannot seem to find anyone else having this issue.

So this is what i did to get my to work retropie 3.1

I went to /home/pi/RetroPie/roms
Deleted my rom folder (fba)

and created a symlink like this
ln -s /mount/usb0/fba /home/pi/RetroPie/roms

now all my roms from my usb are showing
as well as all my images from using the scraper

now i need to look into deleting the gambles games from my list and racing games

Hello all!

I have all of my ROMS on a 128GB thumbdrive with the es_systems.cfg for all systems pointing directly to my USB drive, and it works great.

A few things I discovered in the process:

1. I had to get rid of the tilde “~” in the roms path when pointing to my USB stick. This is Linuxese for ‘go to root’.

2. I had to be sure where Retropie saw my stick. In my case it was USB0.

So my roms path for SNES looks like this:

/media/usb0/retropie/SNES

This works well for me, but I am looking into using symlinks in the future because every time I update my systems I have to re-edit my es_systems.cfg file… which is a pain.

I did see your n64 and I really like how you used the hdmi adapter. I was lucky in how it all worked out in the end but I wanted to make the game holder still functional looking (and be able to use the spring up action/remove game) so I was limited to the Pi positions. I almost 180 it but I really did not want to ruin the original look so I was forced with how I placed it. With that position I had to buy and return parts several times and got lucky. If you have a chance look at Datapro.net. I purchased my usb power pin thru (see pic) and they have a lot of great adapters for custom builds.

I’m new to this as-well, i tried what someone else suggested, editing the emulationstation/es_systems.cfg
by pointing it to my USB folder

But that is not working either. i have formatted my usb to EXT4 and the emulation I’m trying is FBA

Its working when i put the roms on the SD, but not of the USB

Hi!

New to this forum and love RetroPie.

I’m running retropie 3.2.1 and having issues in pairing my PS3 controllers (have seen alot of posts about this but can’t find any who helps).

I connect my blutooth dongle and PS3 controller (USB), boot the Pi and the follow this video:

In short he (and me) goes into the retropie-setup and using my USB connected PS3 controller i chose:

Setup / Configuration
310 Install/Pair PS3 Controller
Install/Pair PS3 Controller

Now it prompts me to make sure my controller is connected over USB (which is already is), disconnect it and push the PS button to pair.

The same second i disconnect the USB-cable i get:

Traceback (most recent call last): File “/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/joy2key.py” line 49, in <module> event = js_fd.read(event_size) IOError: [Errno 19] No such device

All 4 LEDs on my controller are now flashing fast because it is trying to pair then stops after a while. If i connect the USB cable back to the controller it just starts charging with slow flashing and can’t do anything but using my USB keyboard.

With the keyboard i can go back and try to pair again. However, the error message never appear again and the PS3 controller cannot be used even over USB unless i restart the setup.

This always happen to me. I follow guides exactly and still introduce issues no one have ever heard about before.

Would appreciate any help.

Pairing a second controller should be easy. Start your pi. Wait until emulationstation appears. Connect second controller over usb. Wait some seconds. The controller should be configured now. Disconnect and press PS button.

If this does not work please do the following steps. There was a small modification short after 3.2 release. Please press “F4” and type:

cd RetroPie-Setup
git pull
sudo ./retropie_setup.sh

Remove and install driver again.

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 32gb USB stick to store my roms on.

Copied everything I wanted to the stick, make a symlink with the following command (as somebody else suggested in the forums):

ln -s /media/usb/roms/ ~/RetroPie/roms

After a reboot the roms were seen and all was well…exceeeeept:

NES/SNES/Megadrive/gba just will not load. runcommand.log is empty.
I expected at this point that none of the emulators would work but much to my surprise FBA and the PSX roms loaded fine.

Also it seems the Selph’s Scraper has the path hardcoded into it and it will not fall for the symlink trick.

Any ideas on the matter?

Thanx!

I have a generic PS3 controller I am trying to configure in 3.2.1. I configured it in emulation station and just in case I installed the PS3 driver even though I am just using USB and no blue tooth.

The joysticks configured correctly in the emulation station input setup. However, they don’t do anything in emulation station.

When I start Ape Escape on the PlayStation it tells me a dualshock controller is not inserted and the joysticks don’t function in game either.

How do I fix this?

Hey everyone,

new Pi owner here and looking into the possibility of turning this in a small bartop arcade machine for my wife and the kids to play. (and er.. me too I suppose) Thanks to Retro Pie! (yes, I’ll make sure to leave a small thank you fee once I get everything up and running)

1. However, I have a bit of a trouble getting the NeoGeo titles to run. They are recognized but when I try to start a game, the black starting screen come up and then throws me back to the menu. NeoGeo bios is located in the roms/neogeo folder. MAME on my Mac works fine with the bios / games. Any ideas?

2. Lots of Arcade games seem either “not supported” or come up distorted on the screen when I try to load them up using MAME4ALL. I only seem to be able to play the early 80s titles (which are best anyway, but …). Again, I’m sure I missed something here?

3. Probably not a Retro Pie question, but I’m experiencing some trouble with my USB Speakers connected to the headphone jack. When starting up the Pi, they start to “stutter” noise and the led lights inside the speakers starts to flash.
Anyone else experiencing something like this? Once I unplug it and plug it in again, everything seems to work fine. Seems to be a usb power issue!? (the Pi is powered by an Aukru 5V 2000mA usb micro adapter – salesperson convinced me that was the one I need)

Ah yes, the data – PI is a model “B”. RetroPie Version 3.2.1 is used.

Hi there. I have been having issues with the arcade controls that I am using for my Retropie build.

First I tried this usb controller: http://www.amazon.com/Arcade-Game-Controller-Interface-MAME/dp/B00F1YQ3DI/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1446843896&sr=1-1&keywords=arcade+usb
When I was having issues with that one, I tried this controller: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UUROWWK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 but I ended up seeing the exact same thing in the end.

I have been able to get both recognized as joysticks. Both are working fine in Emulationstation. Both register fine with jstest. However, when I run Mame or NES emulators (and probably the others, but these are the 2 I am trying right now), I get a behavior on the buttons where they appear to think they are being held down all the time (sort of).

As an example, when I’m trying Double Dragon, I can play fine for a bit and then all buttons will just stop responding (the joystick directions continue fine though). However, if I push in kick and hold it, then the other buttons start responding again as long as I have it held in. As soon as I release it, all the other buttons stop responding again. If I go into MAME configuration via hitting tab and re-assign the buttons, they will function for a while until the behavior returns.

No matter what I do in jstest, I cannot get anything like this to happen. They always register fine on/off as I am pressing them and never become non-responsive. I saw the thread on the directional auto-fire, but I don’t think that this is the same thing since the joystick controls never have any issue, just the buttons.

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Let me know if there is any additional info or logs I could supply that might help.

I’ve just finished my arcade cabinet using two Sanwa digital joysticks and about 20 arcade buttons. All inputs are wired into an iPac2 interface, which is connected to my RPI2 using USB.

At first I had the iPac in the default keyboard mode with the MAME layout.
Upon start emulation station asks me to configure the controls and everthing is setup the way I want it to be.
Everything seemed to work so far in advmame, snes and so on. However I was not able to use that setup using lr-fba-next which I wanted to use as an alternative for advmame.

No matter what I tried, I was not able to configure the buttons or joysticks using the RetroArch configuration tool. No movement of the joystick or key press was detected.

Then I decided to use the ipac Windows config utility to configure each input as a joypad button, having 32 buttons now.

Again I was able to use emulation station to configure the controls and right from the start everything worked perfectly in Retroarch as well. All the buttons are detected and work as expected. I now also get on screen messages like “Ultimatic ipac… found”.

However I have no problems using the “gamepad” in advmame. Maybe 4-6 “buttons” (incl. joystick movements) work, for the rest there is no reaction. I tried reconfiguring the inputs using the TAB menu, but also this works not very well (not all buttons are recognized)…

Whats wrong?
Some questions:
* In which mode do you guys use the ipac controller? Keyboard or Joypad?
* If joypad: how do you configure advmame to use it?
* If keyboard: how to you configure retroarch to use it?
* Is there a way to emulate an analog stick using the digital joystick? e.g. for racing games on the N64
* Is there a way to use the “shift” behavior when using the ipac2 in gamepad mode?

Thanks

I’m quite new to the RetroPie and I’ve got a slight issue: I need to configure a pair of usb gamepads (http://goo.gl/ynZMB0).
But when I press F1 during gameplay it does nothing –> it’s meant to come up with somekind of menu to be able to re-configure the controlls right?
I’ve made sure that in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg the input_menu_toggle is set to f1 and that there is no # in the front of the line

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

What I did after placing roms in the external usb drive on the raspberry pi, was to create symbolic links inside the ~/Retroarch/roms that points to the external drive. Didn’t change anything in the retropie config. It worked like a charm.

I use 2 Xin-Mo Xin-Mo USB Controllers

My button 8 for exit is off the player 1 USB controller.

If I copy my retroarch.cfg from my 2.6 retropie image (attached below) and put it into pi@retropie /opt/retropie/configs/megadrive $ my buttons are all good and the button 8 exits the emulator perfectly.

As you say its a messy way of doing it why I don’t like, would be nice to know how to get this to work the cleaner way.

Hi

Im loosing the configuration for the snes controller every time i go into a game and every time i come out from the retropie settings menus. Its rly strange.

The device configuration always shows up when i start up the retropie.

I got a keyboard connected to but it only works in the settings menus, not in the normal menu. They keyboard works fine in roms tho strangely enough..

Well i allso got problem with roms running in slow motion, the screen going crazy when i have usb adapter connected and all kinds of other problems.. but maybe we can take that in another thread.

Thanks

I followed exactly this post
I’ve finally had some time to test the Xin-mo dual controller with a fresh installation of RetroPie 3.0 and the autofire on the axis issue no longer exists, so applying the previous patch is not needed anymore. Great news!

With regards to it not being recognised as 2 controllers, I’ve tested the addition to /boot/cmdline.txt method that @feederchain describes above and it also works with the Xin-mo dual controller. The code to add to the end of the line (after a white space) is:

usbhid.quirks=0x16c0:0x05e1:0x040

Reboot required after saving the file.

Having reached this solution, I’m not going to bother trying to patch the kernel as this fix is simple enough for those of us with the Xin-mo.

Thanks very much to @feeder for all the help and effort!
It worked perfectly, then I configure config/all to set player1 and player2 commands. I’ll post details by end of the day to explain this step including hotkey configuration. It workds for SNES and NES emulator, I need to check then on pifba for Neogeo use.

Thanks a lot for your help and this forum !

I have all of my roms on a 64Gb stick that makes rom insertion to fresh installs a breeze. Awesome feature btw. It doesn’t sync the saveatates however, and I think that would rule. Apologies if I missed something and it should already be doing this, but is there a way to enable that? Plug in my memory stick for a minute and all the savestates sync up too?

Hey guys, wondering if anyone successfully bound a fast forward feature to any button (preferably the PS “13” button) without a hotkey. I have already successfully done this via hotkey.

Basically I would like to press the pad and will fast forward right away.

As an FYI I’m using:

Pi Model: 2
RetroPie Version Used: 3.2
Built From: SD Image
USB Devices Connected: PS4 Controller

Also non-related question: Why does the Xbox360 wired controller have 2 gamepads? Whenever I load a ROM, it appears with “Xbox Gamepad (userspacedriver) #2 configured on port #2” and then “Xbox Gamepad (userspacedriver) configured on port #1” follows afterwards. Any way to clear the second one or is this normal?

I did install the Xbox360 driver in the RetroPie-Setup.

Not quite what I’d expect, but try updating your controller file to read like this.
(Do you have a link – amazon maybe? – to your controller?)

input_device = "DragonRise Inc. Generic USB Joystick "
input_driver = "udev"
input_start_btn = "8"
input_exit_emulator_btn = "8"
input_up_axis = "-1"
input_a_btn = "0"
input_b_btn = "1"
input_reset_btn = "1"
input_down_axis = "+1"
input_right_axis = "+0"
input_state_slot_increase_axis = "+0"
input_x_btn = "5"
input_menu_toggle_btn = "5"
input_select_btn = "4"
input_enable_hotkey_btn = "4"
input_y_btn = "2"
input_left_axis = "-0"
input_state_slot_decrease_axis = "-0"

Then to exit a game, hold your select button and tap Start with your P1 controller.

Hi,
I know this has been discussed before but I and having problems exiting from the emulators using the controller. I have followed a setup video on youtube and all worked well. I am using a joystick and buttons with a usb interface. Configuring the controller I setup 3 buttons and 2 additional buttons for start and select. I done jstest and buttons 0,1,2 come on when pressed (game buttons), pressing the start button No. 8 comes on and select is No.9. All seems OK.

I went the the retroarch config file and added the 2 lines for a hotkey.

input_enable_hotkey_btn = 8
input_exit_emulator_btn = 9

When in the game pressing the 2 buttons together does nothing, but I can still exit using the esc key on the keyboard.

Can anyone give me a list of checks and “how to’s” to find the problem?

Thanks guys :)

I will start again I think. I have a bartop with 2 USB controllers for the 2 players, so when I first installed Retropie it asks me to set up the detected joysticks and buttons which I have done and I can successfully navigate through ES. So this is saved in opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/{yourcontroller.cfg}?

I think my override of the retroarch.cfg file in the Megadrive folder and others for example works for me is that I require the select buttons and start buttons to be different as I have buttons with the player 1 symbol and start on them. I could be wrongwrong.

On the bartop I have an exit button that has in the passed be used to instantly quit out of a game in emulator, it is seen as button 8 in my old configs and in retroarch when I press it, but I just can’t get it to exit games and back to ES.

Hey RetroPie’rs,

I am facing an issue where I’ve recently updated to 3.2 and I cannot get past the ES Controller Config Welcome screen. I’ll state my setup and known issues.

RPi2/Rasbian Wheezy/RetroPie 3.2 with a setup where the system boots up on SD card but then transfers to a hard-drive and runs off of that. Last working ES system was before update and it was 3.0 – fully working.

The system starts up and auto loads ES, where the program detects controllers, but when i press and hold a button the name of the controller does not show up, nor does it start the configuration GUI. I am forced to hard reset.

I’ve updated the setup script, i’ve rerun the binary installation, I’ve manually setup the retroarch cfg files through the setup for both the keyboard and controllers. I’ve gone into ./emulationstation and looked into the es_input.cfg file, which looks quite empty due to not being able to follow the prompts. I’ve replaced it with my .bak file that I used on 3.0, and it immediately overwrote it once i reset with the same half-empty file.

The keyboards/controllers worked perfectly in 3.0, and they also work flawlessly when not in ES. I can get the name of the controller or keyboard to show up if I hit F4 on boot to stop ES from loading, and then entering ES. The name will show up at the bottom, but holding any key/button will not prompt the configuration GUI.

I assumed it would be a cmdline.txt issue upon startup where ES is loading before the config file, but that should be fixed by re-entering ES after boot, which does not solve the problem.

If you have an idea, feel free to let me know. This problem needs a fresh pair of eyes.

Appreciate any help,

Retroman33
