    So whats the solution? I read you can rename the save file name but this isn’t ideal for games that swap back and forth between discs.

    Compile pcsx rearmed from source (standalone version), I have not tested on the Pi2 but for me it’s working fine under retropie 2.3 rpi 1. Pcsx libretro core is still slow on some games even with the rpi 2.

    Psx games are perfectly playable with an overclocked Rpi 1. You just need to use the standalone pcsx rearmed emulator, the libretro pcsx core is slow on latest retropie version using a rpi1, with an rpi2 there’s no problems at all. I use it with a 2.3 retropie image and I can run almost any iso at full speed, I can play silent hill without graphic issues (white boxes around the character).

    I use GIMP (linux version) to edit/resize and export/save .svg files from any source (jpg’s, png’s, bmp’s, etc)

    Holy ****, guys.

    JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP or whatever are PIXEL BASED formats…

    SVG is a VECTOR BASED format.

    The advantages of this format is that you can scale it without losing quality or seeing pixelation.

    We implemented SVG support in ES to benefit from the advantages of this VECTOR BASED format, so you should use a vector based source, not JPEGs or similar.

    If you dont have any vector data, you also can implement simple PNGs with alpha channel to achieve similar results, but you will lose the ability to scale the image without decreasing quality.
    [/quote]

    Yeah I know the difference about raster and vector formats, but with good quality images and the appropriate software (and patience of course) you can achieve decent conversion to svg, it all depends on user preference or applications.

    When using a Rpi2 yes, totally. Better audio, better cpu emulation (not 100% perfect), sfx games work overclocked via core configuration (yoshi’s island performance increased). I dont have a Pi 2 right now but I’m really convinced to buy one just for the sake of this snes emulator.

    Update your RetroPie-Setup Script and compile/install snes9x-next, this is the most accurate/performance emulator for the RPi2.

    Just rename it to gen.svg and replace it here /etc/emulationstation/themes/simple/megadrive/art (first backup the .svg default logo). I already tested and it works. Easy.

    If you want to change the logo is in svg format (jpg and png are for background images. Search for gen.svg in the megadrive folder /etc/emulationstation/themes/simple/megadrive/art

    Thanks, I managed to compile it and manually added to my retropie setup. I’m using a RPi1 so it’s half the speed (around 28-30 fps + choppy audio). As you stated it’s better to use it on a RPi2, snes9x-next it’s one of the most compatible/good performance snes emulators, I still use it on my Wii.

    BSNES core is not implemented yet on the RPi (I dont see the option to install the core in RetroPie Setup), the only snes emulators inside retroarch are the following:
    PocketSnes
    CATSFC (experimental)
    ArmSnes (experimental)
    …but maybe something was updated, I’m going to check this. Btw, even if BSNES could be implemented in retropie dont expect full 100% speed, not even half of it, BSNES requires a high end PC to run in accuracy mode, I doubt the Pi can handle it right now.

    It’s more emulator dependant than retropie itself. Almost every emulator until 16 bit era have large compatibility, standalone or retroarch cores. N64 emulation it’s not suitable right now for our raspi(and I doubt it will be perfectly playable someday), even with powerful computers N64 emulation is complex. I know some games work fine with mupen64plus but only a handful of them.

    Hi! edit the retroarch.cfg file to your liking and use it as global config to all emulators or individual ones.

    Use pocket snes or catsfc, both are libretro cores (retroarch).

    pisnes and snes9x are the same emulator if I remember correctly, both have the same compatibility, same issues (no chip fx games, weird sound) but super mario kart runs good, pocket snes libretro core wont show the position number.

    Go to this folder /opt/retropie/emulators/pisnes, edit the file snes9x.cfg in the [Joystick] configurations.

    Try using snes9x-rpi instead. Pocket snes is very inaccurate, you can tell just by playing super mario kart (no position number on screen).

    IMHO retroarch pcsx reArmed is way slowly than the standalone pcsx reArmed rev. I tested FF7, it runs really good, constant 59.9 – 60.0 fps, no hitch or crackling audio.

    If you are using retropie 2.4 edit both files cmdline.txt located in /boot and inittab in folder /etc/

    cmdline.txt
    dwc_otg.lpm_enable=0 kgdboc=ttyAMA0,115200 console=tty3 loglevel=3 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootfstype=ext4 elevator=deadline rootwait logo.nologo vt.global_cursor_default=0

    inittab
    1:2345:respawn:/bin/login -f pi tty1 </dev/tty1 >/dev/tty2 2>&1

    I did this as explained, it works really good, the only text I see (just 2 lines of text) is just when I shutdown my Pi.

    Even with an overclocked raspberry pi 2 n64 emulation is really poor, better play with common pc n64 emulation or better, a real console with a flashcard (everdrive).

    If you are using 2.3 retropie just copy the samples right here:

    /opt/retropie/emulators/mame4all-pi/samples

    As I said earlier, you NEED to EXTRACT the samples and copy it right into that folder, the path I mentioned in my first post is for latest retropie (2.4.2 and above). Leaving the file as mame4all_1.0_samples.zip does nothing.

    And no Roo, sorry… this isn’t incorrect, I just tested myself with donkey kong rom and berzerk (some robotic voices and sfx in berzerk), those samples need to be copy it as dkong.zip and berzerk.zip in samples folder.

    Sorry it took so long to answer, been busy last days. These are my overclock settings, notice I voided my warranty just by activating the force turbo mode but it’s ok for me. I use a heatsink and a cooler fan, temp never go above 42º celsius.

    arm_freq=1140
    core_freq=560
    h264_freq=360
    isp_freq=0
    v3d_freq=360
    sdram_freq=675
    gpu_freq=275
    over_voltage_sdram=7
    over_voltage=8
    temp_limit=80
    #avoid_pwm_pll=1
    avoid_safe_mode=1
    force_turbo=1
    gpu_mem=384
    gpu_mem_256=128
    gpu_mem_512=256
    overscan=1
    overscan_scale=1
    start_x=0

    P.S. Btw I want to mention something, the latest standalone pcsx rearmed version (r21) I compiled never worked for me on newest retropie version (2.4.1 and 2.4.2) so I reverted back to retropie 2.3, I just copied the emulator and run it from console, it works damn fast! 60 fps on every game I tested.

    Using latest standalone pcsx rearmed (version r21) I can run at full speed with my overclocked Pi @ 1140 mhz all of this games with constant 60 fps:

    Castlevania Symphony of the Night
    Resident evil director’s cut
    Resident evil 2 (disc 1 & 2)
    Resident Evil nemesis
    Resident evil survivor
    Mortal Kombat Mythologies: sub zero
    Earthworm Jim 2
    Tony Hawk’s pro skater
    Silent Hill (still that issue with the white boxes around the character)
    Clock Tower II
    Doom

    and I’m in the process of testing more isos.

    N64 emulation will never be accurate/fast on the Raspberry Pi (maybe porting another N64 emulator, sincerely I do not expect too much speed), most N64 roms will crash or run at very low fps depending on how much is on the screen, even overclocking the Pi. About MAME, I’m going to test the game, maybe isn’t supported with that version (romset 0.37b5).

    I recommend to you the method 2 for Wiimote controllers. The configuration files in the tutorial for method 2 are awkward, but I managed to re-configure it in a proper way and I’m very pleased with the results. The only problem I still have, is that the analogue joysticks are not detected nor working, but the d-pad and every button is working flawlessly. I even managed to re-adjust that annoying problem with the piFBA emulator, no more inverted up and down joystick!

    Raspberry Pi model B, usb charger 5v 1A, 32 gb micro sd, Wiimote + Classic Controller via bluetooth, fan and heatsink, temp never reaches above 42º celsius. I know I void my warranty but who cares I got another Rpi B+. Psx games runs estable and almost full speed (98% – 100%) in retropie 2.3 with this overclock settings (in retropie 2.4 PCSX ReARMed lags). Every other emulator runs smooth in 2.4 version ,minus n64 roms.
