I didn’t update anything for months, but it was time for me to install Retropie 3.2.1. It went well, transferred the roms, made some motifs regarding the overclock settings, installed wicd-curses to setup my WiFi.
But… I ruined everything after I ran the updates as usual:
– sudo apt-get update
– sudo apt-get upgrade -y
– rbi-update (firmware)After that, the whole installation went crazy: corrupted GUI, input devices (USB gamepad and keyboard) not detected anymore…
So after a few hours and 3 installations, I’ll keep the software as it is without upgrades. Is this a known problem?
How do I set the USB drive to be one of the directories that shows up when I connect the to the Retropie through the Network?
I am running Kodi on my HDMI enabled tablet and would like to be able to use my Pistation as a media server without installing OpenElec.
Hi everyone,
I have a problem setting up the ps3 wireless controller with Retropie 3.21.
I have tried to follow the video guide by Floob, but I get stuck after installing the drivers in the setup menu, as I do not get the option to pair the controller with the Bluetooth dongle (ASUS BT-400 which is visible and seems to be working). The controller works perfectly with usb Cable, but I cannot find any way to pair it with the bt dongle.
Is it possible to start the pairing manually and not via setup menu?
Many thanks
Topic: My Retropie arcade stick
Here’s a project that I just finished up last week. The case is made from oak and elm, the buttons and stick came from a PS3 joystick. They have LEDs in them that can be turned on and off with some scripts that I put in the “ports” section of the UI.
The top of the case has an HDMI port and USB B for power. The right side has start, select, and a USB A port for connecting another stick for two player action.I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Hi all,
I’ve got a problem with nes emulation (maybe this problem concerns also other emulators, haven’t checked because I care for nes). I’ve configured pad due to instructions and when run any game in nes emulator, pad reaction is a little bit late – there is kind of delay between pressing button and action on screen. I’ve used this pad on pc and everythink was working properly. Have anyone ecnountered such a problem?
Information regarding Pi:
Pi Model: 2B+
RetroPie Version Used: 3.1 – newest avaiable
Built From: SD Image
USB Devices connected: gamepad
Controller used: game padI’m beyond stumped on this one and would love any feedback on this. I have been using RetroPie 3.1 with no issues. Burn the image, plug and play. I don’t know if this is coincidence or not but after plugging my joystick into my PC the joystick no longer could be detected on the Pi. I was hoping plugging it into the PC would stop making the tv my Xbox is hooked up to go crazy when my wife was watching TV.
I plugged my joystick back into the Xbox One to get it re-synced with it and I have still been unable to get the PI to see the joystick.
I tried my other Xbox one joystick and same result. I then got the idea to fire up my old Raspberry Pi 1 which had a Pi 1 version of retropie on it that worked fine and now neither joystick would work.
I downloaded the latest version of retropie 3.2.1 and reinstalled it to a new memory card and I’m unable to get past the joystick config screen. During the startup I see that the PI does see the joystick and acts as if it is going to start up.
I have tried command line updates, installing xboxdrv and nothing is seen by the joystick. I even have tried new usb cables and don’t know what it could be at this point. 2 different joysticks and 2 different Pi’s
I’m open to any suggestions at this point.
Thanks!Topic: Multiplayer Games
Is it possible to use two identical controllers to play a multiplayer game? I’m very new to this and everything has run great to this point. I don’t know if I’m being a total retard here, but I wanted to use two USB keyboards as controllers until the Retro SNES controller I ordered came in. However, when I went to play a multiplayer game with my daughter, both keyboards controlled player one and I couldn’t get one of them to control player one and the other to control player two. It is not possible to use two keyboards at the same time as controllers and everything will be OK once I get my identical retro controllers? I’ve scoured the internet trying to find answers and found a lot of topics for setting up multiple Xbox 360 controllers, which I tried to no avail. I modified the global config file and added a player2 config, but this didn’t work either. Thanks for any help.
Hi Guys,
I’m a bit stuck, so everything was working well, and I’d been adding games via a USB stick using the USB Rom service in Retropie. After one restart, Retropie wouldn’t start, there was a permissions error in one of the roms, it went into a startup look that I couldn’t get out of and I couldn’t even get into console. So I started from scratch on the latest Retropie image, did my customisations, everything works… but then I plug a freshly formatted USB stick, leave it a minute, but no directory structure has been added.
I went into Retropie setup, turned the rom service off, then on again… but still not working. Any ideas?
Stuart
I jumped into the arcade build with almost no linux experience at all. Now I am almost done with a 2 player bartop arcade on a RPi B+ with a “THT THT Arcade console 2p USB Player” USB controller and the 2nd joystick is not being recognized. When I run jstest it only shows me only 2 axis (and all 22 buttons). When I move the 2nd joy it gives the same command as the first one.
Has anyone managed to resolve the same issue? I have seen some other topics saying that the autofire fix resolved this as well, but they seem to go into the details on kernel update at which point I lost track. Can somebody help me with a beginners guide of fixing this issue?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Hey everybody,
I’m building at the moment I’m Building a mobile Gaming/Music Box. It has a convertible Top with an Notebook LCD Screen and at the bottom a music amplifier.

But I still have a Problem. I’ve installed KODI under Retropie, which is working well but my Remote Control from an old Windows PC is not working.
Just to explain it exactly: I have installed this USB Remote under the display and with OpenElec on the Pi its working well, but I don’t want to change any SD Card. I know it’s the MCERemote Add-on which is missing on KODI/Retropie. This Plugin is running in OpenElec to enable the USB remote. Someone who Knows were I can download the Zip file of this Add-On? google doesn’t help. And is it possible to use the remote in Retropie to navigate to Kodi?
Please help me…Hi, so I am very new to all this raspberry pi stuff, and I recently bought a Raspberry Pi A+ and gave it an SD card with a burnt RetroPie image. Everything worked fine, and I was able to get roms on it via USB. However, I tried playing my GBA roms on RetroPie, but it doesn’t let me. Any GBA rom I try to play, it just takes me back to the GBA menu for picking which game to choose and doesn’t error or anything like that. It just takes me back. So I did some research online and it appears I have to connect my Raspberry Pi onto the internet, however, I don’t have a USB wifi dongle, or a USB to ethernet adapter, so I can’t download any of those emulators onto my Pi. I have ordered a USB to Ethernet adapter but that isn’t coming any time soon so is it possible to just get the GBA emulator onto the USB and upload it onto the RetroPie just like the roms? Please help, i’m trying to build a Pockett Pigrrl by Adafruit and I would just like to finish the project.
Hi, I was wondering if it’s possible to assign two values to the same input on the same controller in es_input.cfg. I have two different USB controller adapters, a Sega Saturn, and a SNES. Both are recognized as “HuiJia USB GamePad” so they can’t be differentiated in es_input.cfg. The issue I’m having is that the directional buttons are different on the two. One the Saturn adapter, they are “hat”, and on the SNES adapter they are “axis”.
I have tried the following with no success…
<inputConfig type="joystick" deviceName="HuiJia USB GamePad"> ... <input name="left" type="axis" id="0" value="-1" type="hat" id="0" value="8"/> ... </inputConfig>
and
<inputConfig type="joystick" deviceName="HuiJia USB GamePad"> ... <input name="left" type="axis" id="0" value="-1"/> <input name="left" type="hat" id="0" value="8"/> ... </inputConfig>
and
<inputConfig type="joystick" deviceName="HuiJia USB GamePad"> ... <input name="left" type="hat" id="0" value="8"/> ... </inputConfig> <inputConfig type="joystick" deviceName="HuiJia USB GamePad"> ... <input name="left" type="axis" id="0" value="-1"/> ... </inputConfig>
Is there any other way I can accomplish this? As of now, I am just reconfiguring the controller inputs in the ES menu each time, but was hoping to not have to do that if possible.
Thanks in advance for the help.
