dank: I haven’t noticed any problems. There is about a 10-20% CPU overhead using the RT kernel as you are forced to use an older compatible USB driver.

http://community.emlid.com/t/rt-kernel-unusual-dwc-otg-high-8k-s-interrupt-rate-using-quite-some-cpu/1002

I honestly haven’t noticed a problem with it though. I have tested Genesis on Picodrive which is pretty intensive without issues.

I tried setting display mode 2 for 480p@60hz however I am getting overscan on the top and bottom? The retroarch viewport settings do not seem to do anything when running dispmanx but the aspect ratio does.

I didn’t update anything for months, but it was time for me to install Retropie 3.2.1. It went well, transferred the roms, made some motifs regarding the overclock settings, installed wicd-curses to setup my WiFi.
But… I ruined everything after I ran the updates as usual:
– sudo apt-get update
– sudo apt-get upgrade -y
– rbi-update (firmware)

After that, the whole installation went crazy: corrupted GUI, input devices (USB gamepad and keyboard) not detected anymore…
So after a few hours and 3 installations, I’ll keep the software as it is without upgrades.

Is this a known problem?

How do I set the USB drive to be one of the directories that shows up when I connect the to the Retropie through the Network?

I am running Kodi on my HDMI enabled tablet and would like to be able to use my Pistation as a media server without installing OpenElec.

Hi everyone,

I have a problem setting up the ps3 wireless controller with Retropie 3.21.

I have tried to follow the video guide by Floob, but I get stuck after installing the drivers in the setup menu, as I do not get the option to pair the controller with the Bluetooth dongle (ASUS BT-400 which is visible and seems to be working). The controller works perfectly with usb Cable, but I cannot find any way to pair it with the bt dongle.

Is it possible to start the pairing manually and not via setup menu?

Many thanks

Here’s a project that I just finished up last week. The case is made from oak and elm, the buttons and stick came from a PS3 joystick. They have LEDs in them that can be turned on and off with some scripts that I put in the “ports” section of the UI.
The top of the case has an HDMI port and USB B for power. The right side has start, select, and a USB A port for connecting another stick for two player action.

I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out.

I vaguely remember something like this happening with mine and I think it ended up being a corrupt usb stick/ sd card

Hi all,

I’ve got a problem with nes emulation (maybe this problem concerns also other emulators, haven’t checked because I care for nes). I’ve configured pad due to instructions and when run any game in nes emulator, pad reaction is a little bit late – there is kind of delay between pressing button and action on screen. I’ve used this pad on pc and everythink was working properly. Have anyone ecnountered such a problem?

Information regarding Pi:

Pi Model: 2B+
RetroPie Version Used: 3.1 – newest avaiable
Built From: SD Image
USB Devices connected: gamepad
Controller used: game pad

Thanks, I was aware of that but I forgot to do it on one of the sticks I was using so there were two issues.

I’ve now run into this a second time, reboot loop that I can’t get out of : I’ve enclosed a screenshot. Seems to be caused by a permissions error in Roms directory after using usb transfer service.

Hello, just wondering. Is it safe to say that this build has gotten to big for an 8GB sd card? Also i am new to this and was wondering what was the purpose of the USB drive? I have an 8GB sd card and when i click on both its says needed disk space 8221 MB and available 7428 MB, my USB is 64GB if it makes a difference. Would it be possible to just boot from my USB? Thanks any info and help would be greatly appreciated.

I needed the cables as well, Tesco (where I bought the mag) didn’t have any cable, but if they did I was expecting them to be expensive, luckily Scan computers is a short walk from work so at lunchtime picked up a USB adapter cable and the hdmi cable for a fiver all in.

Excellent!
I wrote the image, and hooked PiZERO up to my telly.
The system booted up ok and is now on the RetroPie screen stating that no control pad detected.
But to hook up my USB XBOX control pad I need a USB Mini female to Micro male adapter, and just sods law I can’t find one now. Going to run up Tesco in a moment and see if they’ve any there… I hope so because I want to play on this tonight

I’m beyond stumped on this one and would love any feedback on this. I have been using RetroPie 3.1 with no issues. Burn the image, plug and play. I don’t know if this is coincidence or not but after plugging my joystick into my PC the joystick no longer could be detected on the Pi. I was hoping plugging it into the PC would stop making the tv my Xbox is hooked up to go crazy when my wife was watching TV.
I plugged my joystick back into the Xbox One to get it re-synced with it and I have still been unable to get the PI to see the joystick.
I tried my other Xbox one joystick and same result. I then got the idea to fire up my old Raspberry Pi 1 which had a Pi 1 version of retropie on it that worked fine and now neither joystick would work.
I downloaded the latest version of retropie 3.2.1 and reinstalled it to a new memory card and I’m unable to get past the joystick config screen. During the startup I see that the PI does see the joystick and acts as if it is going to start up.
I have tried command line updates, installing xboxdrv and nothing is seen by the joystick. I even have tried new usb cables and don’t know what it could be at this point. 2 different joysticks and 2 different Pi’s
I’m open to any suggestions at this point.
Thanks!

Is it possible to use two identical controllers to play a multiplayer game? I’m very new to this and everything has run great to this point. I don’t know if I’m being a total retard here, but I wanted to use two USB keyboards as controllers until the Retro SNES controller I ordered came in. However, when I went to play a multiplayer game with my daughter, both keyboards controlled player one and I couldn’t get one of them to control player one and the other to control player two. It is not possible to use two keyboards at the same time as controllers and everything will be OK once I get my identical retro controllers? I’ve scoured the internet trying to find answers and found a lot of topics for setting up multiple Xbox 360 controllers, which I tried to no avail. I modified the global config file and added a player2 config, but this didn’t work either. Thanks for any help.

read the documentation:

https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/How-to-get-ROMs-on-the-SD-card

Starting with RetroPie 3.0 you first need to create a folder called retropie on your USB stick and then follow the above steps.

Hi Guys,

I’m a bit stuck, so everything was working well, and I’d been adding games via a USB stick using the USB Rom service in Retropie. After one restart, Retropie wouldn’t start, there was a permissions error in one of the roms, it went into a startup look that I couldn’t get out of and I couldn’t even get into console. So I started from scratch on the latest Retropie image, did my customisations, everything works… but then I plug a freshly formatted USB stick, leave it a minute, but no directory structure has been added.

I went into Retropie setup, turned the rom service off, then on again… but still not working. Any ideas?

I jumped into the arcade build with almost no linux experience at all. Now I am almost done with a 2 player bartop arcade on a RPi B+ with a “THT THT Arcade console 2p USB Player” USB controller and the 2nd joystick is not being recognized. When I run jstest it only shows me only 2 axis (and all 22 buttons). When I move the 2nd joy it gives the same command as the first one.

Has anyone managed to resolve the same issue? I have seen some other topics saying that the autofire fix resolved this as well, but they seem to go into the details on kernel update at which point I lost track. Can somebody help me with a beginners guide of fixing this issue?

Any help will be much appreciated.

But I still have a Problem. I’ve installed KODI under Retropie, which is working well but my Remote Control from an old Windows PC is not working.
Just to explain it exactly: I have installed this USB Remote under the display and with OpenElec on the Pi its working well, but I don’t want to change any SD Card. I know it’s the MCERemote Add-on which is missing on KODI/Retropie. This Plugin is running in OpenElec to enable the USB remote. Someone who Knows were I can download the Zip file of this Add-On? google doesn’t help. And is it possible to use the remote in Retropie to navigate to Kodi?
Please help me…

Hi, so I am very new to all this raspberry pi stuff, and I recently bought a Raspberry Pi A+ and gave it an SD card with a burnt RetroPie image. Everything worked fine, and I was able to get roms on it via USB. However, I tried playing my GBA roms on RetroPie, but it doesn’t let me. Any GBA rom I try to play, it just takes me back to the GBA menu for picking which game to choose and doesn’t error or anything like that. It just takes me back. So I did some research online and it appears I have to connect my Raspberry Pi onto the internet, however, I don’t have a USB wifi dongle, or a USB to ethernet adapter, so I can’t download any of those emulators onto my Pi. I have ordered a USB to Ethernet adapter but that isn’t coming any time soon so is it possible to just get the GBA emulator onto the USB and upload it onto the RetroPie just like the roms? Please help, i’m trying to build a Pockett Pigrrl by Adafruit and I would just like to finish the project.

So…I discovered a few things, but still no solutions:
1. Emulation station detects 3 gamepads – when I only have 1 F310 plugged in and 1 USB keyboard
2. I once got the emulator to work by unplugging and replugging in the f310 after the emulator had started. When doing so, the yellow text at the bottom were read “F310 successfully connected” but would also say something about “Xbox controller 0/2 not configured”
3. Switching the F310 controller to Dinput mode appears to render the controller completely useless, as least per my experience.

All very strange, given how I bought the f310s originally because of how flawlessly they worked with Retropie.

This is resolved. I used the ES controller config tool, and then looked into the temporary file it saves, and in there I saw that a “deviceGUID” value that was unique between the two controllers. I don’t believe this carries over to the final es_input.cfg, so I manually put it in there, and now I can differentiate between the two controllers. Problem solved.

Yes, exactly. PS3 driver is not installed by default. Once you have installed the driver it is no longer necessary to go into the RetroPie setup menu. If a ps3 controller usb “connect” is detected at runtime sixpair will be executed.

I have modified the setup script today a little bit. So if your controller is usb connected at driver installation time sixpair will run and configure your connected controller (like in retropie < 3.1).

Hi, I was wondering if it’s possible to assign two values to the same input on the same controller in es_input.cfg. I have two different USB controller adapters, a Sega Saturn, and a SNES. Both are recognized as “HuiJia USB GamePad” so they can’t be differentiated in es_input.cfg. The issue I’m having is that the directional buttons are different on the two. One the Saturn adapter, they are “hat”, and on the SNES adapter they are “axis”.

I have tried the following with no success…

<inputConfig type="joystick" deviceName="HuiJia  USB GamePad">
...
<input name="left" type="axis" id="0" value="-1" type="hat" id="0" value="8"/>
...
</inputConfig>

and

<inputConfig type="joystick" deviceName="HuiJia  USB GamePad">
...
<input name="left" type="axis" id="0" value="-1"/>
<input name="left" type="hat" id="0" value="8"/>
...
</inputConfig>

and

Is there any other way I can accomplish this? As of now, I am just reconfiguring the controller inputs in the ES menu each time, but was hoping to not have to do that if possible.

Thanks in advance for the help.

If you connect at runtime sixpair runs without user interaction. Sixpair configures your controller. This takes one second. After this second your controller should be ready for pairing. Remove USB cable and press PS button.

As i said if your controller is configured it is not necessary to connect over usb and run sixpair again. Configuration persists.

Yes, it is already configured so now it connects without issues (i’m not using the cable anymore).

But, does it mean that when configuring a new controller i don’t actually have to go into the RetroPie setup and choose the PS3 pairing option? I can just do it outside the setup, from EmulationStation ie?

Thanks.

I would guess you would be better off upgrading the xarcade with the newer usb control board. It’s available on their website.

Was the controller connected at boot up? sixpair runs if you connect your controller “at runtime” (in emulationstaion for example) and the controller should be instantly ready afterwards. If your controller is connected at boot time sixpair does not run.

Sixpair is necessary to write the mac address of your bt dongle to the controller once. The controller should always pair afterwards.

Ok. I’m almost certain i tried both (connected via USB both before and after boot) but still got the error. At least i’m 100% i had it connected during boot several times.

However, i’m not sure i fully understand. You mean that the PS3-controller should always be connected over USB during runtime prior the pairing process rather than having it connected during boot?

Just wanted to say I’m having the same issues. RPi2, running Retropie 3.2.1. The game that doesn’t work for me is RBI Baseball. Select doesn’t work in game so I can’t make it a two player game, start works fine. I’ve tried both xbox360 wireless controllers and a simple usb keyboard. Doesn’t matter what Select is bound to it doesn’t work, yet works fine in other games and works perfectly with Start+Select to exit. I just got my RPi recently so I’ve only ever used 3.2.1 and can’t comment on how it might have worked in past versions. I know it’s not the rom or the emulator because the exact same rom file works perfectly in Nestopia on the PC.

Edit: Only older image I could find was RetroPie 2.6, Select still doesn’t work in that version either.
Never mind. Redfarmer was correct. Adding another controller and using the PS3 controller as the “player 2” controller somehow allowed it to connect via bluetooth.

Once it paired as “player 2”, I just unplugged the other controller and rebooted.

At that point, I was able to pair correctly as “player 1” with the PS3 controller via bluetooth

Thanks so much for the fix!!!!! I’m about 8 hours into this search.

Glad i could be of help.

I had to temporarily remove my wifi dongle to make room for a second controller during the end of the process.

In order to keep the Internet connection, I used a hard wired Ethernet cable.

So in addition to the Ethernet cable, I had:
1. A Logitech wired controller
2. Keyboard
3. Bluetooth dongle
4. PS3 controller wired with USB

I then ran “lsusb” and verified that the PS3 pad was lower on the list of USB devices than the other controller. (I don’t know if that’s actually necessary. I’m just guessing. I’m a beginner at coding)

Next I ran “install/pair PS3 controller” from the setup menu.

The response was exactly the same. So no change there.

Then I just rebooted into game mode. Once everything loaded, I disconnected the PS3 controller from its wired connection and pressed the “PS3” button.

At that point, it paired as player 2.

Then I removed the Logitech controller and rebooted again.

Finally, the PS3 pad paired as player 1
My method was really straightforward. I just connected my first controller and then the PS3-controller and it was automatically the second device. Then started the pairing process. After it was paired i pulled the first wired controller and rebooted just as you mentioned and then it paired as first device.

I do think this should be treated as a bug.

When in ES and you disconnect the usb and press the p3 button what do the lights do on the controller?
