Hi all!
I will find myself in a trick Christmas situation. I will receive a brand new RaspberryPi B+ (as a present), I will have no access to a computer and huge wishes to play RetroPie right away with my brothers :D So my question is:
Is it possible to save roms in a USB pendrive BEFORE I plug it for first time? My idea is to do this:
1) Create a folder called “retropie” in the pendrive. Inside that folder create a folder called “roms”. Inside that folder create the folders of the emulators roms “amiga”, “amstradcpc”, etc..
2) Save the roms inside their respective folders.
3) Plug it to the RaspberryPi B+ for first time so it can automaticaly create the rest of directories (“configs” and subfolders)
4) Unplug it, and plug it again to “sincronize” the roms. Will it work? In case it won’t, any idea on how to?
Thank you for your help!!
Best,
NomteSo I ordered a second Buffalo SNES USB controller to go along with the one that I used to set up my Retropie a few days ago, but Amazon is backed up and it won’t be delivered until after our upcoming game night with friends. I am going to have the Retropie set up as a classic gaming station in one of our rooms, and I’d like to have two controllers ready for use with it.
I have PS3/PS4 controllers that I could just use wired, but I’m worried about what will happen to my SNES controller’s config if I plug in and configure a PS3 controller. Does Retropie remember configuration based on each controller’s unique ID or something? Basically what I want to happen is I plug in both the SNES controller and PS3 controller (hardwired) and have it apply their button configurations correctly every time.
Retropie might already handle this on its own (separate configs per controller and randomly assigning player 1 and 2 when they are connected via USB), but I haven’t been able to find clear documentation on this process. Thanks in advance to anyone who can clarify this.
So I recently bought a USB SNES controller off Amazon and it works great (Gtron SNES USB gamepad) ! It works perfectly well in every other emulator EXCEPT MAME. Weird thing is that the retroarch commands still work (such as Sel+X ; start+sel does not work on the gamepad, only keyboard) but no matter how many times I’ve remapped the controller in the RetroArch GUI settings and saved it (saved as libretro.cfg), and EmulationStaion menu mapping and it still does not work in MAME. I am using lr-imame4all as the emulator since my roms only work on this and not mame4all emulator option so remapping the controls with the mame4all tab settings will not be possible. If anyone can please help me it would be greatly appreciated !
the mame configs are below ( found in /opt/retropie/configs/mame-mame4all )

-RetroPie v3.2.1
-Rii wireless keyboard
-Gtron SNES USB gamepad
-CanaKit wifi dongleTopic: GamePi Zero
Well, I just started my new Gameboy project. I have everything ready except my Pi Zero. I should be getting it in the next few days but here is the progress so far. I got the volume control, headphone jack, speaker and power switch working properly and all off the buttons tested out great. For audio out of the Zero I am going to use a usb sound card with a 1/8″ jack out. I hope it works… I will update this post after I find out.

Topic: Arcade Stick question
Hi all!
Quick question, slowly putting together a setup for a cabinet but I am currently running into the following problem:
I would like to use a pre-made USB 2 player stick (X-Arcade comes to mind) to work with because it seems it has built in support in Retropie and it would allow me to use the setup without a cabinet too.
Problems I am running into: the X-Arcade resellers in The Netherlands seem to not exist anymore and even contacting the X-Arcade crew themselves just lead to me getting a (rather unfriendly) email back suggesting I try eBay.
EDIT: The reason I was looking for a Dutch reseller is because the shipping costs are almost as much as the stick itself.
I would like a 2 player stick if possible, would make life a lot easier but perhaps somebody here can suggest a different brand?
I would also like it to be 2×4 rows so that that can be used well with NeoGeo and other arcade emulation.
I am rather fearing making my own setup (I am just not very handy) so a pre-made solution is what seems most attractive.
Perhaps 2xUSB stick is the solution?
I hope the question is clear. Any advice is very welcome on the matter!
Hi all-
I got my Xo Min joysticks working great with emulationstation and using with the MAME and FBA emulators. I also use the N64./SNES/NES emulators and would prefer to use my xbox360 controllers with those roms. If my Xbox360 adapter isn’t plugged into the USB, the joysticks workgreat, if it is plugged in, the Xbox360 controllers take default as player 1 and 2 in MAME and FBA despite my Retroarch.cfg file (below) . Is there a way I can specify to just use the joysticks as player 1 and 2 for some emulators and have the Xbox360 be the default controllers for other emulators without having to plug and unplug them as I do now? i.e. leave the xbox360 adapter plugged in and still have my Joysticks as the controls for MAME and the xbox360 for all other emulators?

Topic: Help with SD Card Issue
I have a RPi2B that I tried to set up for RetroPie. I flashed the image to the card, then I booted the Pi. I didn’t et display, so I SSH’ed into it and ran raspi-config. the only change I made was to have the disk expanded so I could use the full capacity, then I rebooted via commandline. The display came up with the console booting and the four RPi logos at the top, then went to a RetroPie splash screen and stopped loading. I noticed the network cable lights were off, so I checked my DHCP server to see if it had grabbed an IP address- Not only had it not gotten an address, but the DHCP entry for the IP address it had prior to boot was missing (We have an 8-day lease set up for IP addresses, so it should have been listed even if it were not connected). I let it sit for an hour before power cycling the Pi, and no display, no network. Worst of all, the micro sd card will not read with 2 different readers on two different computers under three OS’s. I thought I had a bad card, so I used my other card following the same steps- and got the same result! These are Kingston Class 10 32GB microSD cards. One of them had been previously flashed, but only once- both were brand new cards. I want to use RetroPie, but I am scared to sacrifice any more cards to this project- Is the problem the card, perhaps the capacity or something? I haven’t seen anyone else with this problem. Please let me know what I can do- I’ve been trying to recover the cards, but in Linux, when I scan for the reader or try anything while the card is plugged in, the card reader tries, fails, and shuts off. My other reader tries, fails and stays on. Inserting the card to any reader on a windows machine crashes the user mode driver. The first reader is a USB3 and the second is a USB2 reader. Please let me know how I can recover- the only utility that has even come close to working was TestDisk and this was very limited. Thanks- I appreciate your help.
Hi,
I’ve done a clean install of retropie and all emulators work fine.
I want to change the button layout of FBA.
/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/DragonRiseInc.GenericUSBJoystick.cfg
input_device = "DragonRise Inc. Generic USB Joystick " input_driver = "udev" input_b_btn = "3" input_y_btn = "0" input_select_btn = "7" input_start_btn = "6" input_up_axis = "-1" input_down_axis = "+1" input_left_axis = "-0" input_right_axis = "+0" input_a_btn = "2" input_x_btn = "0" input_l_btn = "4" input_r_btn = "3" input_l2_btn = "4" input_r2_btn = "3" input_l3_btn = "4" input_r3_btn = "3" input_l_x_plus_axis = "+0" input_l_x_minus_axis = "-0" input_l_y_plus_axis = "+1" input_l_y_minus_axis = "-1" input_r_x_plus_axis = "+0" input_r_x_minus_axis = "-0" input_r_y_plus_axis = "+1" input_r_y_minus_axis = "-1" input_enable_hotkey_btn = "7" input_exit_emulator_btn = "6" input_menu_toggle_btn = "0" input_load_state_btn = "4" input_save_state_btn = "3" input_reset_btn = "3" input_state_slot_increase_axis = "+0" input_state_slot_decrease_axis = "-0"
I wanted to switch around keys in FBA so i’ve change the following
/opt/retropie/configs/fba/fba2x.cfg
[Joystick] # Get codes from "jstest /dev/input/js0" # from package "joystick" # Defaults to XBOX 360 Controller A_1=1 B_1=0 X_1=2 Y_1=3 L_1=4 R_1=5 START_1=7 SELECT_1=6 #Joystick axis JA_LR=0 JA_UD=1 [Graphics] DisplaySmoothStretch=1 # Display Effect: 0 none, 1 scanlines DisplayEffect=0 DisplayBorder=0 MaintainAspectRatio=1 DisplayAutoRotate=0 [Sound]
I switch around a and b for instance but the keys stayed exactly the same.
also editing the retroarch.cfg within the fba folder had no effect.
(did a proper reset in between aswell)Can someone tell me what I can do to fix it?
kind regards,
Peanut
Topic: NES games won't start
Pi Model: 2B
RetroPie Version Used: 3.2.1 (latest ISO file)
Built From: SD Image
USB Devices connected: 1 Hp Keyboard, 2 usb nes controllers
Controller used: usb nes controllers (random from China)
Error messages received: none
Guide used: Standard installation guide
File: ALL nes games
Attachment of config files: –
How to replicate the problem:snes games/megadrives are working, but I can’t start my NES games.
When I start a nes game, the runcommand screen comes up and it goes back to the selection screen with all games. The emulator is lr-fceumm, but also with lr-nestopia it’s not working.
The roms are playable on the computer with an emulator.
Also I tried a NES game in the snes folder, but also then it’s not starting./tmp/runcommand.log gives also no error.
Has anyone an idea how I can find out what the cause is of this problem?Topic: N64 games fuzzy
Hello all I’m having abit of trouble with my Pi playing some n64 games. So let me start off by giving some of the specifics. Raspberry Pi 2, retro Pi 3.1 image, it’s clocked to the second fastest speed, snes usb controllers. When I go into my Pi thru my home network I open the rom folder and only see 1 n64 emulator listed. I’ve read that there were 2 at one point? One played games better than others?lets specifically speak about Mario kart it loads with the Nintendo swinging fine, the cover screen works fine, but once I press the start button the picture is fuzzy top to bottom, the audio works, the game even though the screen is just fuzzy/scrambled still functions and can choose all choices to get to the race… Other games like f1 work ok minus some small details only being scrambled, like the shift lights etc… game works fine, I can live with that.
Can anyone explain to me how to get my n64 dialled in so it works nice. I am by no means a Linux programmer so a detailed step by step Is needed. I’m working on understanding certain functions and this site is certainly helping with that. Every other system works perfect, just this little setback. So I know I am new here and don’t have any neat things to contribute but I guess this post could help someone else.
Thanks
Topic: My Portable Project
HI, i am very happy to present my project
Spec:
Raspberry PI 2 900MHz 1Gb Ram,
LCD 4.3″ 480×272 connected by Composite cable with harware backlight adjustement,
Stereo speaker with Amplificator and Volume adjustement,
12 button + Directional cross connect on GPIO as Keybord(More info),
USB redirecting to Bottom of shell,
RJ45 and Composite Output on multiport on Bottom of shell,
HDMI and audio Jack on Top of shell,
ALL LED are redirecting on RGB LED on top of shellNOW THE PICTURE
When emustation starts it detects my usb controller fine. I then go into the menu and configure it. After this it works in the menu and one time in a game.
However, I cannot get it to autoconfigure. Everytime I have to go through the setup process. BTW, the devices is recognised as ‘USB gamepad’ when I press the ‘A’ key to configure it.
I checked the manufacturing and device codes with lsusb and made a corresponding entry in the /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/configs. I used 0x79 0x11 as well as decimal values (121 17) in the config file. The config directory is correctly set in the retroarch.cfg file (default value).
I looked carefully at the wiki and the forums. Some help was there but it looks like all the files mentioned are now in a different location (I updated my retropie on my model 2 pi nov 30, 2015).
I’m a bit lost at the moment….
Any help appreciated.
