Even without a specific 64bit build the speed gain should be noticeable.

Also wondering how far it overclocks now.

I’m sure that even if it doesn’t work (which I sort of expect) it should be very quickly resolved as I am sure the Raspbian people will have it up and running in no time. From there it should be a “short trip” for Retropie but I am no programmer so…

My guess is a new build will be required for the 64bit architecture. I wonder how much driver issues this will be accompanied with.

I guess herb isn’t getting any time off soon :p

Ordered mine so if I can help test I will!

Well I do notice a longer loading time. Sure it all goes well in the end but some things do start up slower and uploading a ROM through SSH is just UGH-SLOW

Just wondering if I need a new stick is all.

@label: this might actually be the solution to a question I was going to ask. My Fat32 formatted USB stick performs very poorly when copying files to it over SSH (around 600kbyte per second) as opposed to 6-8mbyte per second when copying to the internal SD Card.

Do these values match your experience? In that case I will have to reformat.

Nope the game I mean is more cartoony.

I seem to remember you can pick a character before starting, each with their own place.

Nah it is way more modern. Actual polygon 3D gaming.

I’m thinking sega model 2/3 but cannot seem to find the game amongst the lists.

Well it seems the video file I was using is prolly not good.
How would one generate one from the DVD? I’m guessing the .bf files aren’t useable.
Any word on which DVDs are supported?
Does it have to be an .m2v file?

    And last but not least:

what does the lair.txt (or dle21.txt) do exactly? Is it a sort of video frame skipper to tell it where to begin with its playback?

    Wow that’s a lot of questions :p

    shoothere

    WOW this looks amazing!

But wouldn’t this pretty much deck the raspberry pi as far as vram goes?

Also: where are the movies for the games stored? I take it locally when scraped? Won’t that require insane amounts of storage?

Perhaps some sort of “ultra hard” platformer?

Things like Super Meat Boy spring to mind or the Mario Maker stuff.

    Does such a thing exist?

How are you going to hook it up? USB casing I guess? USB2 casings are cheap but perhaps one with its own power supply is worth it?

I am a big fan of the Samsung Evo 850 series.

Just out of curiosity: wouldn’t a large USB Stick (say 128GB) fit your needs? Much cheaper and drive performance is barely an issue in Retropie.

Silly question but did you try with a freshly flashed SD, update the Retropie setup script and try that? Always handy to have a small 4GB/8GB SD around for testing

First things first (I have not tried any of your setup so!):

    Did you overclock your Pi?

I do second this but moving forums is not a quick thing, especially if the old content is to be preserved.

Ah well, looking ahead to a brighter future!

Tetris Battle Gaiden is very fun but with a steeper learning curve.

Will be 1v1 (only have 2 joysticks) so will have to test the bomberman games so they dont last too long.

Ever tried Micro Maniacs on the PSX? That is Micro Machines SQUARED!

When it launches it goes through a quick series of self test screens and credit screens, which seems fine. The bridge scene I have not taken a closer look at but I figured that since Space Ace skipped the intro (it cuts itself off and restarts from the beginning) it was all related.

I’ll have a look later this week and report back. Thanx for the followup tho!

WOW this just made my day! Awesome stuff!

Easy to set up (need to rebind the controls but hey that is for another day).

One thing I do notice is that the video for all Dragon’s Lair 1/2 and Space Ace are allover the place. It parsed fine but then sort of became unplayable (video skips scene etc and no prompts for actions). Is this a setting in the .command I am missing or are the video files just wrong?

Would be magic with my new joysticks!

Well with version 3.5 it works! Pretty much out of the box working!

Only thing that still requires a manual run is Sselph’s scraper, which is easily downloaded and run from inside the new USB directory as per this documentation:

UPDATE: well I reflashed the SD after formatting it and now it works.

I guess it must have had some residue from a previous install.

Well maybe something more….filesystem related. Like filesize, filename.

Although clrmamepro has solved my problem and the themes I use are the ones without meta it would help with clearing up sets.

Can filesystem operations be done from within ES? Such as delete or rename files?

Would come in especially handy when cleaning up.

I recently purchased 2 Hori Fightstick Mini 4s and am very pleased by the result. I think you got little to nothing to fear when hooking it straight up though USB but no idea how well they would work with a control block.

Well I was always under the impression that this program was “Windows only” but running it with CrossOver worked a charm (as I am a Mac user). Much cleaner set indeed!

For me I was most impressed by how everything is pretty much made to work “out of the box” (Libretro helps a LOT!) but also Bluetooth setup and generally fiddling with settings but these are mostly for optimization.

Getting the home consoles to run with a mainstream joypad requires little to no adjustments.

I do find that an auto-expanding of the filesystem might be welcome (I know it is easy to do but it is what seems to get a lot of users stumped). Or is there a reason not to do that? I, myself, use dedicated SDs for each purpose.

I guess the main issue is that a lot of people are used to the “uber polished” emulators on windows which already have all the work done for them (such as network, disk/storage, resolution and obviously an over-capacity in power).

I can say I enjoy the fiddling. Just a shame when hours are wasted on a bug that cannot be solved but hey, thats all part of the game!

There is something to say for it being “easier to set up” but I always view that people who buy a Raspberry Pi, take the trouble to install this software and wish to make it work as a dedicated gaming machine (or even purchase controllers for this purpose) are sort of looking for an adventure anyway. I know, for a fact, I should not meddle in the hardware/GPIO stuff and am steering well clear of that but getting a setup working is very satisfying. Even more so when you can show it off to your friends!

It seems most of the problems arise with people not following the setup guide, deviating from the standard procedures or using hardware which isn’t 100% guaranteed working.

All in all I <3 Retropie, it is exactly what I have been looking for for many years and the “effort” to set it up gives me something to do during the weekends.

Only just got around to trying it and wow…. My wife had a great time because she was actually winning games. I guess 20 years away from a real joystick messed up my skills!

Awesome Joystick for the price (€40 here) but you do feel it is a lower end of the spectrum.

Super happy with the purchase. Will start this weekend with setting up a second player but I do not expect much hassle.

The neogeo.zip file should be in the neogeo folder, not the BIOS folder.

Also: when in doubt, make sure you have a working neogeo bios. For me I was convinced I had a working one but in the end I had to download a fresh one and start from htere.

Well they didn’t come in this week :(

I find it surprising how hard it is to find fightsticks without paying outrageous shipping costs.

    Wooohooooo!

No I will take your word for it!

This is very good news and indeed, NeoGeo or CPS games will feel a lot more authentic.

Now it’s just the long wait for the online store to stock them (they said this week but meh…).

Thank you ever so much for taking the doubts away.

    Oh wow very impressive!

Quick question: would it be added value to add Overclock/Resolution used? I personally found that for, for example, the N64 turning it down makes a lot of games run a lot better.

Still amazing that this little piece of hardware can do bloody Dreamcast!

I am sorry but the image you enclosed is not very helpful.

Do you have an RPi 1 or 2? How did you make the SD card? Did you download the right version for your Pi?
