Can anybody comment on how the rasp-pi 2 is performing with MAME games? Do they work better now? Smoother, better sound and framerate?
I play a lot of mame games on my overclocked rasp-pi 1 model B and for the most part they work just fine, but I think it´s common knowledge that with some, there are issues like slowdowns etc (e.g. the Samurai Shodown series). Does the new model enhance things greatly and noticeably in that regard?

And also, when can we expect a retropie version specifically designed for the rasp-pi 2? I want to upgrade without running into much trouble :)
What about overwriting the button layouts in the system specific retroarch.cfg?
Damn, that was such an obvious solution, but it simply never crossed my mind. Works just fine now :)

thanks

No way to do this?

For ES it worked out perfectly, big step forward. Thanks!

Is there no similar solution for the emulators themselves? I wasn´t able to figure out anything useful in the retroarch.cfg file.

Edit: I just figured out that the button mapping for the Xbox360 controller VS the SNES-USB controller go hand in hand for the first 6 buttons (0-5) but are different for the Start and Select buttons (6 and 7 on Xbox, 8 and 9 on SNES).

This means that I have no problem swapping controllers and actually playing a game (using the “normal” buttons and d-pad), but I am unable to pause a game and, what´s more, exit out of an emulator as I have deticated the Start+Select combo to get back to ES.
Now, is there ANY WAY to set up the retroarch.cfg file so that it picks up, for instance, EITHER button “6” (=Select on Xbox) OR button “8” (=Select on SNES) as the “input_player1_select_btn”?
I tried it myself but I couldn´t figure out how this can be done…

thank you

I tried that, but it didn´t pick up the correct artwork. The Emulators are mainly plain white or black or half blue, half white (Atari 2600) now, but not the artwork they should be according to the ClearConsoleThemeV1.1.

I replaced all folders in the ./emulationstation folder with the new ones from clear console theme.
Anything else I need to do??
Also, when I try to run the command to look for the box art just for the genesis roms, it says that it’s up to date.

Try the following: Delete the gamelist.xml file within the Genesis Roms folder. Then run ES-Scraper again. That way it always worked for me.

So how do I install a new theme? I wasn´t able to find a detailed “how to”… Any help on that would be greatly appreciated.

And does this have the potential to ruin my existing boxart and gamelists? I put a little work into setting up all boxart and game titles for my NES, SNES, Genesis games and don´t want to loose that.

thanks
Hello,

first thanks for all the precious help bring in this forum.

I have the same problem with my joystick (Hori fighting stick 3), Sewersurfer could you explain ‘was set to “D-pad” instead of “left or right stick”. If I set it to “ls” or “rs” it works just fine’ ?<br>
How could I set my joystick this way ? this setting is in retropie config or in mame config ?

Thanks in advance.
Sure: As opposed to the Xbox360 controller, my gamepad (MadCatz Street Fighter IV) has only one d-pad, but with a little switch on the back of the gamepad I can choose wether that D-pad should be recognized as either the left analogue stick, or the right analogue stick, or the d-pad. As the emulator seems to expect input from one of the two analogue sticks it won´t work if I set the gamepad to d-pad.

If you can set it up that way using the config-files or not, that I don´t know. But you might wanna check if your fightstick has that option as well.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated. Everything is up and running now :)

The TV problem remains though. I tried it on 3 different tvs: on 2 the picture is in a box. On one TV it worked just like it should, no box, no edges. Fullscreen. Very strange… But I am pretty sure that it is not a TV related problem.

Oddly enough the resolution is perfectly fine on a different TV (fullscreen 16:9 in emulationstation, fullscreen 4:3 in emulators). I didn´t change anything on my TV during the installation, but I will try a different HDMI port…

As for the gamepad-issue: The GUI was the first thing I tried and it din´t work at first, but I found out that the issue was my gamepad. It is a MadCatz SF4 gamepad and was set to “D-pad” instead of “left or right stick”. If I set it to “ls” or “rs” it works just fine :)
The thing that´s bugging me right now however is that mame4all does not save the changes I make in the GUI. For instance if I map “pause” to the start button on my gamepad it works fine for that session but once I hit escape, go back to emulationstation and again go back into the game, the mapping is gone and back to it´s default (pause on keyboard-p). What do I have to do so that mame4all remembers what I change in the GUI when it comes to button mapping??

thank you

Hello, I followed your guide to install mame4all-pi and it worked just fine, thank you. Performance is much better now!

However, I have 2 problems:
1. The installation somehow changed the resolution of both emuluationstation and the emulators itself so that now, they are “boxed”, meaning that the screen is only a box within my TV. They are still displayed in the correct aspect ratio (16:9 for emulationstation, 4:3 for emulators/games) but not fullscreen anymore. How can I change that back to what it was before??
2. How can I use my gamepad in mame4all? It works fine with every other emulator and in emulationstation but not in mame4all.

thank you!!

Hello,

I was looking into SNES type USB controllers for my retropie and want to get one off of ebay.
I am considering these two sellers:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/291089639180?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
http://www.ebay.de/itm/390786691172?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Does anybody on here have any experience with this type of controllers, or specifically the ones from the ebay sellers above? Are they any good??? I do not expect Xbox360 quality, but they should at least work properly…

thanks
