thanks! i decided having a hand held with a controller going to it would be kinda silly , so i made a controller with enough buttons (16) to handle most games , wont be able to do any psx games that need 2 analog sticks…..oh well haha
i go one step further and symlink the entire roms directory, so i just have to do it once if i reinstall. i copy all the ‘default’ roms to my USB stick beforehand, and use the same filestructure
i am gonna upgrade to the new retropie version , editing the cfg took for ever this is so much faster and will avoid issues with gamelist.xml also , so ill be doing this , dont see how some thing this is not fast …….u write that one line into your terminal as apposed to editing each system in the cfg

Well i got a lot done. Spent a entire day on it trying to finish it. Here are some pix.

The problem was 90% of the buttons ended up not working. I have them hooked up to the gpio pins and am ussing that retrogame application from adafruit. To fix the problem I am going to get some perf board and some tactile switches and put that behind the buttons.

So I got the game gear emptied of the un needed plastic peaces. Got a game gear game epoxid in. Cut the controls off the circuit board and soldered the wires to it.

or can i use the composite output and just switch it to that when i want to use it as a console?

also this is how my boot config looks

# uncomment if you get no picture on HDMI for a default “safe” mode
#hdmi_safe=1

# uncomment this if your display has a black border of unused pixels visible
# and your display can output without overscan
#disable_overscan=1

# uncomment the following to adjust overscan. Use positive numbers if console
# goes off screen, and negative if there is too much border
#overscan_left=16
#overscan_right=16
#overscan_top=16
#overscan_bottom=16

# uncomment to force a console size. By default it will be display’s size minus
# overscan.
#framebuffer_width=1280
#framebuffer_height=720

# uncomment if hdmi display is not detected and composite is being output
hdmi_force_hotplug=1

# uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (here we are forcing 800×480!)
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=1
hdmi_mode=87
hdmi_cvt 800 480 60 6 0 0 0

max_usb_current=1

# uncomment to force a HDMI mode rather than DVI. This can make audio work in
# DMT (computer monitor) modes
#hdmi_drive=2

# uncomment to increase signal to HDMI, if you have interference, blanking, or
# no display
#config_hdmi_boost=4

# uncomment for composite PAL
#sdtv_mode=2

#uncomment to overclock the arm. 700 MHz is the default.
#arm_freq=800

# for more options see http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt

ok so the game gear i was sent had no battery door covers so i ordered some and they just came in , i also order a game cartridge to fill in that hole , next task is to glue the cartridge in the the card inside it removed and start grinding everything out to make room inside , i found a guide on adafruit.com for a smiler project that shows what peaces need to stay for the controls. here it is if anyone needs it https://learn.adafruit.com/raspberry-gear?view=all#case-modifications

Here is an update. I took apart all the components I am gonna try and cram in the game gear. Seems it will fit. Bit it looks like the io pins may be to close to the screen to be able to plug in my controls. I’ll have another look after I trim up the inside of the game gear.

i been trying to figure out the best way to stuff it all in the game gear. i have some ideas but school started up and i haven’t had a chance to rip it apart yet.

i am leaning on the idea to Velcro the batter pace to the back and have the usb cord come out the game gear to plug it in so then i can use the batter on other things also. also i would be able to plug it in to an ac adapter instead to run it that way so i could power it both ways.

just got in the non working gamegear i plan to use as the case. dang thing has no battery covers…would of been nice for the saler on ebay to have said so! replacements cost just as much as what i paid for the whole gamegear. oh well. i guess ill just cut some plastic to that size and use epoxy fill and just cover up the holes.

Been talking to an administrator at adafrute. Here is something to take into consideration for our rpi2 projects.

“One point to note: the PowerBoost 500C charges at 500mA. It would take 20-30 hours to fully charge a 10,000mAh pack that way.”

What clock settings and memory split are you running? Do you feel you need that fan? Do you have heat sinks on there also? What would you do different next time? What did you do for sound, did you get an amp etc. Thanks for all the answers. This is one of the biggest electronics projects I have taken on.

i keep looking at the data from the powerboost 500c and am i understanding wrong or does it max out at 1amp output? you said you have a raspberry pi 2 right. that take 2 – 2.5 amp right? what am i not understanding about that set up? does the powerboost 500c not max out at 1amp? i would think you would have to use the powerboost 1000?

i think this would be a perfect case. is there shoulder buttons? you could use the retropie gpio adapter thing to get them control ports functioning to!
