i am working on building a hand held unit. i have a rpi2 and a 5 inch screen. i will be gutting a snes controller and wiring it up to gpio.

so far i have the image burned and the screen set up. i have my jumpers for wiring the controls and i have the controller.

    i have this screen https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-5-800×480-tft-hdmi-monitor-touchscreen-backpack

i will be using this as the battery http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MQSMEEE/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=117WAMN7LN4A5&coliid=IIU0BHZ70AGMS&psc=1

my next thing i need is to decide on a case for all this. i am leaning twords a game gear for that. much like this one https://www.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/handheld-raspberry-pi-in-game-gear-shell/

ill try to get some picks and keep you all posted as i go.

just got in the non working gamegear i plan to use as the case. dang thing has no battery covers…would of been nice for the saler on ebay to have said so! replacements cost just as much as what i paid for the whole gamegear. oh well. i guess ill just cut some plastic to that size and use epoxy fill and just cover up the holes.

i been trying to figure out the best way to stuff it all in the game gear. i have some ideas but school started up and i haven’t had a chance to rip it apart yet.

i am leaning on the idea to Velcro the batter pace to the back and have the usb cord come out the game gear to plug it in so then i can use the batter on other things also. also i would be able to plug it in to an ac adapter instead to run it that way so i could power it both ways.

Here is an update. I took apart all the components I am gonna try and cram in the game gear. Seems it will fit. Bit it looks like the io pins may be to close to the screen to be able to plug in my controls. I’ll have another look after I trim up the inside of the game gear.

ok so the game gear i was sent had no battery door covers so i ordered some and they just came in , i also order a game cartridge to fill in that hole , next task is to glue the cartridge in the the card inside it removed and start grinding everything out to make room inside , i found a guide on adafruit.com for a smiler project that shows what peaces need to stay for the controls. here it is if anyone needs it https://learn.adafruit.com/raspberry-gear?view=all#case-modifications

So I got the game gear emptied of the un needed plastic peaces. Got a game gear game epoxid in. Cut the controls off the circuit board and soldered the wires to it.

Well i got a lot done. Spent a entire day on it trying to finish it. Here are some pix.

The problem was 90% of the buttons ended up not working. I have them hooked up to the gpio pins and am ussing that retrogame application from adafruit. To fix the problem I am going to get some perf board and some tactile switches and put that behind the buttons.
