Theoretically this could work, provided that you only use 2 types of controllers.

You’ll have to redo the ESconfig, with both controllers plugged in at the same time. Set the one up as Player 1 and the other up as Player 2, that way both controllers would be able to navigate through the ES Menus. Unless ESconfig takes controller ID’s into account (which it might) it should work. If not, you’d have to have both controllers plugged in at all times for this to work.

From then on it’s pretty straightforward. You’ll just need to configure a retroarch.cfg file for each emulator.

I’ve attached my Retoarch config file from my configs/all directory. I’m using generic PS2 style controllers by Dragonrise inc.

    Hope it helps.

Before you lose your sanity in frustration (as I almost did).

Have you tried setting up your controls using the Retroarch Joyconfig tool?

    Type:
    cd RetroPie/emulators/RetroArch/tools *Press Enter*
    ./retroarch-joyconfig >> ~/RetroPie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg *Press Enter*

Follow the prompts to set up your game controller. The output will be placed in
    RetroPie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg

Even if it doesn’t end up working properly (I found it didn’t pick up my analog
sticks correctly). It gives you a good idea as to the actual button numbering
vs the numbering on the controller.

If you have 2 identical controllers, you can copy and paste the control settings
of Player 1 just below and change the Player number from 1 to 2 and the control
    index from 0 to 1.

Let me know if you’d still like me to upload my retroarch.cfg file. It looks
strange when viewed in notepad from a Windows PC, so is best viewed on the Pi
    itself.

Thanks, will give that a try. I’m currently using a Netgear Router and Cyberduck to access my Pi from a PC, but I’ll give Putty a try as well.

Will it be a similar process to install eduke32?

    Thanks.

I use the exact controllers the OP posted a link to. They register as “Dragonrise inc.” controllers. They’re not easy to configure (particularly the analog stick), but with a bit of patience you can get them to work very well. ;)

Are you using the 1.8.1 Image file? I don’t have this issue. I just can’t get eDuke32 or prboom to work.

You’re lucky you’ve got either one working at all. :(

Could you perhaps run me through exactly how you got it working? Starting from an SD Card loaded with the 1.8.1 RetroPie image?

At the ES Menu, if I try to launch either one, it just reverts back to the ES Menu.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Ok, so I updated the binaries (Silly me, should have done this earlier.), and now I can save state on Genesis! Yay!!!

I still can’t save on Atari 2600, but that really doesn’t matter. If anyone knows why, I’d still appreciate the info.

    I meant 1200mA or 1.2A Nokia charger. ;)

The Pi Needs 700mA simply to function. It needs additional power to operate basic USB devices such as a keyboard.

Initially, I bough a cheap 1000mA adapter for mine, but it was only just good enough to operate the device and a keyboard. If I tried to connect anything else, (like a flash drive) it would freeze or fail to boot altogether.

I’m now using a genuine Nokia 1.2mA charger and it does the job perfectly. I can power a cheap 4-port USB hub passive 2 USB Gamepads and a USB Keyboard without any issues. I could possibly have added a mouse as well, but I haven’t tried it yet.

As for memory cards, it doesn’t seem to matter whether you use a class 4 or a class 10. Performance is the same either way.

I’ve had the same issue once so far. I reloaded the image from scratch as it was the most clear cut solution.

In future make a backup images of your SD card. You can do this by using the “Read” function on Win32 Disk Imager. (The tool you probably used to write the image to your SD card with.)

That way if things go wrong or you make a mistake, you can just revert to a previous backup.

As for the cause of the freeze at the splash screen, I can’t help you there. Help seems to be scarce on this forum, so don’t get your hopes up.

I’m still trying to figure out how to get eduke32 and prboom to work on my 256MB Pi. Haven’t had any luck or help so far.

Good luck, and hope this helps you a little at least.

Tried updating, but no luck. I get eduke32: libvorbisfile.so.3 invalid ELF header header when I launch Duke3D.

UPDATE: I can’t get them to work through HDMI either.

Sorry, it looks like the link was removed from my post. It’s issue 197 on github.com.
