I finally got a chance to try this out.

It didn’t work. What i ended up trying was running this from the terminal:

pi@retropie ~ $ /opt/retropie/emulators/osmose/osmose -joy -joy1 2 -joy2 4 -joystart 11 filename.gg

This was the output:

OsmOse 0.8.1+rpi20121122 build on Oct 4 2015 at 20:27:34 Written by Bruno Vedder.
Button 1 mapped to joystick button 2
Button 2 mapped to joystick button 4
Button Start mapped to joystick button 11
Unable to open filename.gg zip archive.

After this, i ran an SMS ROM from ES. It loaded fine, and i actually had some functionality out of my PS3 controller. The left analogue thumbstick took place of the D-Pad, and the right analogue thumbstick “click” took place of one of the two SMS controller buttons. I am not sure which one. Either way,the command successfully created some sort of config file to use with my input device, so i consider this test somewhat successful. I guess now i need to track down the location this mapping is saved to.

Any help is still appreciated.

Ronoh- i had actually tried both (my neighbor has a wep that i tested on). If anyone is reading this with WEP, please change to WPA ASAP. Takes about 30 minutes max to hack.

Also, please disable WPS if you are using WPA or WPA2, this is also very easy to hack.

in es_systems.cfg, I changed:

<command>/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 _SYS_ mastersystem %ROM%</command>

To:

<command>/opt/retropie/emulators/osmose/osmose -joy -joy1 2 -joy2 4 -joystart 11 filename.gg 0 _SYS_ mastersystem %ROM%</command>

I cannot test yet since i am not at home, but i feel like from what i have learned so far, this should have me configure my input when i launch a ROM. Not a permanent solution, but could possibly lead me closer to the promise land.

Please give feedback on this.

Have you previously used a keyboard to complete the emulationstation input config?

I would suggest deleting any existing input cfg and rebooting with only your PS3 plugged in. Complete config there, and then also configure in retroarch input config

Gizmo- My iPazzPort has its own usb dongle. I am not sure what wireless protocol it is using. i guess it is possibly bluetooth, but not connecting through my rocketfish BT dongle. Could this still be the issue?

Techy- if you are still having problems, I can offer advice.

I was using berryboot originally so I could have both retropie and openelec.

I scratched that plan. Do a standard load of retropie 3.2.1, then install Kodi from experimental setup in retropie_setup.sh. I think since berryboots filesystem is flat, we cannot write data to certain files. You could try adding user pi to admin or use chmod777 to see if it is a possible permissions issue.

I think I’m done with berryboot though. It’s cool, but I think just running kodi out of ES is better

Are there some pins you can run a jumper between to do a full discharge of the residual electricity on the motherboard? Several times, i have had customers bring their computer in to be fixed, and it works again by time they arrive, since the system has had time for the residual electricicty to drain.

It is the same principal as unplugging it and holding the power button for several seconds.

I know this isnt the solution, but this could be used to troubleshoot and find the root cause.
I have the exact opposite issue, keyboard is the only way I can navigate ES, my PS3 controller only works in the games.
you just blew my mind.

Im pretty sure that whichever device you use to complete the configuration on first boot is the device that will be used in ES. You can redo this config by either pressing the mapped start or select button- cant remember which one.

I went home last night and did a little bit of drinking and had some friends over. Im not sure exactly what transpired, but i feel i have made peace with my situation. I beat Mortal Kombat on Genesis after 2 decades of not playing it. I ran the PS3/Bluetooth install, and then the ReatroArch Input setup for my PS3 controller. Tonight i want to try the RetroArch Input config for my keyboard and see if they work simultaneously, or if the keyboard overtakes the joypad as default. Ideally, i’d like both to work. I will post results.

After a bit more investigation i think i may have found my answer. i am not at home right now so i cannot physically do any more than a remote ssh session allows.

To answer your question – Yes. I originally setup my keyboard as an input device. After rebooting, i plugged in my PS3 via USB and configure it as an input device. After this, i was unable to navigate emulationstation using my keyboard.

I am going to assume what i need to do is go to setup script > Setup /Configuration > Configure Input Devices for RetroArch > Configure keyboard for use with retroArch

Although, i am not 100% sure this is going to do anything- Will RetroArch settings also be used in the emulationstation interface? i would like to be able to navigate the menu using keyboard and/or joystick

I let the system sit overnight. The next day I came back and the PS3 remote was working fine now.

Still the keyboard is unresponsive in the RetroPie GUI. Is there way to have keyboard and PS3 remote work in RetroPie GUI?

I scratched the plan of using berryboot. I installed 3.2.1 from scratch, updated the setup script, and connected to wifi with no issues.

Rather than use a multi boot setup, i will run kodi from within retro pie’s gui. I can live without kali on my media/gaming center.
