That being said, the Recalbox project has added background music (which are pretty cool tracks) to ES.

I’m no developer so I have no idea how it is done.

Perhaps we should start another game compatibility list for N64 games. List what ones work with what config.

I have a simlar issue, but the ones that get me the most are Wonder Boy and NBA Jam. I guess NBA Jam is too short? I just manually add them to the XML.

If you use Neo Geo Pocket you will get poor results as theamesdb uses seperate systems for NGP and NGP Color, emulationstation searched for NGP system and unfornately the above scaper doesn’t work with NGP(c) yet

Correct, but I have a0, a1 (left thumb) a2, a3 (right thumb) a4, a5 should be the dpad or hat. I Did try setting the hat as per this config: https://github.com/ssilverm/PiMAME/blob/master/.gngeo/gngeorc

    Still no dice.

I think I might just get rid or GnGeo and use lib-fba

I build sets for each system using the dats mentioned. It’s not space efficient, but I know my sets are clean and more or less guaranteed to work. Any set that fails for me is either due to the version of the emulator not fully supporting the set itself or the Pi can’t run it.

Unless you get the parent set 100% checked in clrmame (with associated bios if required) there’s no point trying to load it. All the mame derivatives will check for each rom in the set at loading. If any are missing or fail the checks it will bomb out.

Clrmame can be a beast to work with but it’s very powerful. There are plenty of people here that can help out if you get stuck

Well, I’m not sure where full of shit came from, but everyone here and the various other projects have been super helpful from my point of view, and I think the constructive responses to your poorly written post kinda prove that.

Either way, you’re clearly frustrated which we can all understand, so hopefully I can help a little.

If you want the most basic easy to use system, install recalbox directly, not through noobs. It’s only a few hundred meg and pretty much fool proof: http://www.recalbox.com/diyrecalbox

It will run right out of the gate, but is very basic as far as tweaking and emulators goes. It’s pretty much controlled by retroboy, though he does a good job.

RetroPie is a bit more advanced and does require some Linux skills. So you’ll need a hell of a lot more patience and commitment to having a tinker to get the job done. But it is satisfying when you get it done.

Failing that, sell your Pi and buy a yum cha retro console. But they suck too.

Well…. It sorted did the trick. I can get the analogue axis working, but not the D-Pad which is axis 4 & 5 according to jstest. Analogue Axis 0-3 will all work as left\right & up\down just not 4-5

Can do Floob. I finished my GnGeo dat last night, but was just too tired to finish testing and upload it. Should be ready this evening.

I’m happy to build parent only sets, but I’m also inclined to remove all the what I’d consider crud; quiz games, mahjong, puzzles, adult and gambling to name a few.

I think if we could agree in a base filter it would be a good start

Awesome, thanks dankcushions. It would be great if we could generate the dats online for whatever people wanted to filter. But that would be a bit of a process to undertake.

I think I’ll have to have a crack at this romlister

Ouch merged set brings out my OCD. It’s inefficient space use (when clearing out clones) and more memory being used to open the archive.

But you are right, it is a quick way to do it
Is there a reason you chose gngeo over fba-libretro? I’m torn between the two. I like the lr-fba in that it will use RetroArch configs, but I could have sworn gngeo was faster.
Well, I hate to say it, but I’m more of a tinkerer and tweaker than a player as much as I do love playing the games from my youth. I really like the building sets and all that guff, been doing it longer than I can remember.

That being said my limited impression is that GnGeo is it’s kind of rubbish. I want a smooth experience so a retroarch core is going to suit me better and I really didn’t like the popup menu to exit and I’m also having huge issues with my controller.

Also, the effects don’t work for me. I hate smoothed rendering, but any effect I loaded either butchered the screen or looked terrible. Your overlay video is still the easiest and best results I’ve had so far so that helps the argument for fba-libretro. EG, my gameboy overlay without a palette looks so damn nice you’d swear it was a photo.

I’m not 100% familar with romlister, but it looks like it’s not going to be all that helpful as some of the older sets are pre mame xml days.

You will also need to find either the right mame binary\xml and the right ini for the right versions.

I went old skool and and just building a gngeo data now. I eye-balled it removing all clones and non-working sets:)

Stupid question. But where do I upload the dat file too once created? Sorry never edited a wiki before

This is awesome work guys, I’m very happy to add to this list as I go.

When I get the time I’m also panning on creating dats that filter all the clones and other guff. I hate polluting my game list with all roms know to man. Makes it quite un-playable.
