The other systems are fine. It’s just the MAME Widescreen games (screenshot size 384×224).

Edit: I used a crappy tablet to take a pic.

I have no idea how to take screenshots and I don’t have a camera. It’s not a big problem, i’ll just live with it. Thanks anyway.

Excellent theme, I use this as my default now and hope retropie add it to the next Image so we can just choose it from the theme option and don’t have to manually download/install it.

One thing I noticed and wondered if you could correct it for the next version. Some of my MAME InGame screenshots are true widescreen (1944 for example) and overlap the game list and if you change systems the screenshot can be seen on the edge of the screen. Can you limit the zoom so that it stays inside the left of the screen (doesn’t pass the middle line) ? I like to use ingame snaps rather than boxart, that way I can see what the game actually looks like. Thanks.
try running

    sudo chmod +x /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/emulators/usp.sh
I typed this into the console, then tried the experimental setup script again but nothing, it flashed at the bottom of the screen ‘started’ but immediately disappeared again, didn’t even download it.

I also tried setting all permissions 777 and no luck.

I’d also like to get this working. I made a usp.sh from your second script and put it in scriptmodules/emulators (same as Retrofan), but when running it from the experimental menu it doesn’t even download the progrram.

Hey, you started this project, not me. And regarding the “people who want their hand held”, I thought that was the whole point of this project, otherwise you could just manually install the emulators from the PiStore. I didn’t realize I would have to pay. Sorry for the posts. You won’t here from me again.

Yes it’s beta but it worked perfectly fine in beta 2 before they changed the method of setting controls. It’s the old cliché, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.

So after all this time that was spent making the controls easier to set up, I think you should revert back to the way it was. It was much easier and bug free. Even after setting my controls, if you enter the RetroArch menu the controls don’t work and have to reset the Pi !?!?

Thanks for the reply. If there is an iBuffalo control preset (which is my Joypad) why does it create a generic USB profile ?

So is there a way to repair the splashscreen ? All I did was fresh install RetroPie 3 beta 3 and update the setup script. It says it’s looking for something like Retropie 2015 but now I see that there are several named colours etc. What file do I have to edit to change the splashscreen ?

Would the crackling sound have anything to do with the refresh rate of my TV ? I’m on 50Hz most of the time (i’ve set it to 60Hz for US Console roms). Maybe the reason I don’t get crackling sound on AdvanceMAME because there’s no VSync (I get a lot of screen tearing). Just out of interest, is your TV running Mame4All at 50Hz or 60Hz ? Or doesn’t it matter ?

I might try a RetroPie 2.6 setup tomorrow just out of curiosity. Thanks for replying.

I got the HDMI cable with my Pi package from the PiHut. I have a complete verified 0.37b5 romset that i’ve had for years from my GP2X days. I also have the latest Rollback roms so I can rebuild any version Romset (used for AdvanceMAME). Mame4All is the only emulator that I get crackling sound with, all the rest work fine. Oh well.

The sound doesn’t crackle on lr-imame4all but the compatibility is terrible, some games had no music and wrong aspect ratio (bad dudes, squashed screen), some didn’t work and some I couldn’t start because the buttons didn’t work. The games I tested work on AdvanceMAME and Mame4All (with crackling sound). It looks like I’ll have to stick with AdvanceMAME 1.2.

Mame4All was the first thing I tried when I got my Pi 2 and was very dissapointed with the bad sound. I’ve tried the same games on AdvanceMAME and the sound is good but I get screen tearing (no VSync ?). I’m using HDMI 1.4.

I saw a YouTube video somewhere that said SDL in RetroPie 3 was bugged and you had to reset the system to make the sound crackle go away, that doesn’t work for me. Like I said, AdvanceMAME using the same games (obviously different ROM versions) don’t have bad sound.

So why does everyone seem to use Mame4All ? I’m using RetroPie 3.0 and tried Mame4All and all I get is crackling sound on nearly all games even the most basic ones. I don’t know if it is something to do with a bug in SDL (which i’ve read about). I’ve tried AdvanceMAME and the sound is fine but I get a lot of screen tearing.

PBP is compressed format (EBOOT). They work fine. You’ll need a tool like ‘PSX2PSP’ to compress CUE/BIN to PBP format. (And it keeps all Redbook Audio Tracks).

Not really ideal if you dont have a lot of space on your SD card.

Meh. microSD cards are cheap so there should be no reason to run anything smaller than 16GB. Running a 32GB Class 10 with 2700 roms + the OS and only utilizing 14.32GB with all console games unzipped. No issues and no mess (duplicates). I’ll take that.
Each to their own. All my roms are originally zipped so why bother unzipping them first and then copying them to the pi (and using over double the storage space). If the emulators work with zipped roms then it’s a no-brainer. The only ones that leave duplicates are NES. We just have to leave those unzipped until it gets fixed. Luckily they are small ROMs.

I also have a 32gb card but some people will just use the 8gb card that came with the Pi and if they use zipped roms then they can get a lot on there.
Only put unzipped roms in your folders (except MAME and Neo-Geo). All other console game roms can be unzipped before putting them into your related Retropie emulator folders.
Not really ideal if you dont have a lot of space on your SD card.

SNES, Genesis, TurboGrafx16, PSX, and Amiga games all work fine compressed and it saves a lot of space.

Do the makers of Retro-Pie read these forums ? If so, can you please add Chips version of UAE4ALL2 (v0.5) to RetroPie please ? Apparently this fixes the strange widescreen bars when using 640 vertical resolution. Thanks.

I also get something like this. When I choose a vertical resolution above 600 I get huge black bars at the top and bottom. 320 vertical displays full screen but looks really blocky.
