<quote>lets say i make pong in python with pygame or c++ with sdl would it even be possible to add them into emulationstation?</quote>

Should be possible. Cave Story runs natively on the Pi. You’d probably just want go into .emulationstation/es_systems.cfg and create a new entry using the Cavestory one as a starting point before eventually pointing it at your own game.

FWIW, I think what you’re suggesting could probably work, and there are LCD and electronic games with emulators that aren’t covered by Game and Watch gallery that could probably be played this way quite happily.

But when it comes to Game and Watch, Nintendo unsurprisingly do the best job, often incentivising gameplay and including optional visual upgrades.

Best solution for this is probably playing Nintendo’s own Game and Watch Gallery titles under Gameboy emulation.

Recompiling components is that simple? Huh.

Maybe I’ll poke around and see about trying to add a “sort by release date” option myself instead of asking if it’s possible.
