So one thing ive noticed (not sure if this happened on the b+ but ive noticed it now) is when you exit to terminal there are a few error lines waiting for me even if i havent done anything but boot ES and then exit to terminal straight away. this only happens sometimes.. very rarely

Well the console ones seemed greate already on the b+ just smoother now.
once the new V7 binaries are done, will it be a simple retropie script then binary update? or will i need to setup a new image?

What can be done about the mame binaries?
im assuming that when u say build ur talking about retroarch emulators only. Not 3rd party ones

Hey Buzz
what build do you make? what optimisations did you compile for?

Tested Advmame. Yeah no visible improvement. Im guessing those guys need to recompile their binaries. mame4all no visible improvement (worked pretty well in the b+)

all other RetroArch ems that i have seem to be good.
tested a few games for master system, megadrive, gba, snes

Just need updated binaries for the mame emulators. Would it be possible to run the current original mame now?

After following the update and upgrades, I’ve been able to take my old install and get it running on the Pi 2. Goldeneye on the N64 is running quite a bit faster, although I’ve not tried to overlock yet.
Hey MAME emulator does not work well in RaspB +? Hey Chito, you’re getting set up and update the RetroPie to work in Rasp2?
Ive already got it working on the new rpi2. yeah mame doesnt perform very well in the B+ i was looking into getting the banana pi just as i saw the announcement for the new rpi2. I will test advmame later on.

Is there a way to get the latest mame in retropie? might be worth looking into now.

hopefully this opens up many new doors
Nice! Excited to hear more. If you have a moment. I’m interested in Mame4all-pi performance. Can will it run slow games like the MK series and NBA JAM full speed?
Ive got advance mame running on another pi but its at my office :) it should have a more intense load on the cpu than mame4all-pi. and ive got both those games so ill have a see and how it goes. if advmame can run smooth mame4all-pi will also.

but its also as simple as coping the roms over to the mame4all-pi roms folder or changing the path in es_systems.cfg and testing directly. still ill have to wait till im at work in 9-10hrs.

Im guessing the biggest performance boost will be when the emulator cores switch over to V7 multithreading. anyone know if the new chip is 32bit or a 64bit?

I bet your going to be busy for a while. Thanks heaps for all the effort you’ve put in. I was so wowed when a mate intro me to the raspberry pi then i watched a youtube vid about the retropie. Hooked…

Im new to the pi environment. mad newbie. hence why i got it wrong the first time.

Where do you announce that there is a new image ready?

like 3 weeks ago i downloaded and installed the 2.3 image only find out the 2.4 image had come out not long after and i had no idea.

Also maybe im missing something, me and my newbie ways, cause when i ran the update scripts and binaries from the 2.3 image it added all these duplicate folders and files with different letter casing. it made configuring controllers and find the correct path to things a pain. if the update added new paths and moved things around and made everything lower case was it meant to also remove the old stuff and i missed something?

Yep its up and working
it took a very long time to download and install everything it needed. im guessing that it had to build some stuff on the pi it-self. the warning was only for a 130MB HD increase… so that took about 3hrs?

Anyway its working :) and it booted up really fast. Ill do more testing as i play games and different emulators

I used:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo rpi-update

update: nice and smooth no more lagging sound issues with what ive tested. Have yet to test advmame or n64

im also going to be on the look out for an update for the scripts and binaries for retropie.

once windows 10 image comes out ill make a hyperspin setup and see how they compare

Why isnt there only one update feature that updates the scripts and then updates the binaries?

wait is that cause it needs to reboot after updating the scripts?

Yep didnt work. Still only get a rainbow coloured screen with no response

I thought that would have been the case. I was worried that doing so on the old hardware would not update it to the current hardware.

I know that the RetroPie image gets rid of a lot of the unused Raspian stuff. Im guessing this will add a whole bunch of useless stuff in the update and will need to be cleaned out.

Hopefully there is a new image or update script soon that has this update cleaned. Then later the updates to the emulator cores for V7.

Not sure if i should wait or have fun now and clean later

So ive bought 2. just got them and just put the sd card in.

all i get is a coloured screen. Not even the terminal

Registered just to confirm, yes, “apt-get upgrade” is all you’ll need to move from B/B+ to 2B, as per Ebon Upton in this interview at MakeZine:
http://makezine.com/2015/02/02/eben-upton-raspberry-pi-2/

How and where do i run this if i cant get the terminal in using my RetroPie SD card

Ive seen the banana pi get mentioned as an alternative. Finally looked into it. Its a way better machine! Especially the banana pro! Is there a port for the retropie? U cant just insert ur sd card. it has its own setting up

Also there was an announcement today about the new raspberry pi 2
http://time.com/3691968/raspberry-pi-2/

The British charity behind the technology says the new model is six times more powerful than the previous version. It has 1GB of RAM, double that of the prior model. Its new 900MHz quad-core processor means it’s faster, too.

Also will ship with windows 10. All this for $35

i ran the updates and ive noiced how messy the files are now. there are duplicates of files an folders with the same name different case. Would be good if the update didnt just download new files but also did some house cleaning

Ive got the 2.3 image. is there a way to add the emulator or update the files so that i dont have to config everything again?

i know there is an update function in retropie setup but i think it only updates scripts and binaries. not sure if it would update to the image by adding emulators etc

Ill have to try it out. How do i install it? Ive had a search Cant find any thing on installing it… juat people talking about it. The version that gets installed is that adadvmame-rpi? Or is that another thing?

I read somewhere that the whole point to mame4all was that it would emulate games that used hardware that smaller processors can emulate. Thus removing newer games with stronger needs to optimize performance. Cant remember where I read that… but if that’s the case then there are plenty of games that use the current emulated hardware that could be supported.

how bad is the performance of advanced mame on the pi? If u remove newer games is it okay?

i changed the line
sudo ./retroarch-joyconfig -j 0 >> /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
to
sudo ./retroarch-joyconfig -j 1 >> /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg

using the dat file in the mame4all-pi.zip and clrmamepro i created an xml file.

then i used RomLister to create a batch file that copies roms that i want to another folder, leaving behind the most of the unwnated roms (like casino, not working, etc) — since its an old version of mame couldnt “-listxml” which has clone info. anway…

using ./mame -list -noclones > noclones.txt
i created a text file. then using regex i formatted it so that each rom was on its own line and to look like the following for each rom name.
copy romname.zip C:/some-path/clean roms

Ive gone from all 2,272 roms to 1,564 after ROMLister then to 995 of clean working roms. Awesome! thanks for the help. There is no point in having a romset with useless roms that occupy space.

Use a rom manager like clrmamepro. Mame4all cones with the dat fike it needs to check your roms. It will tell u which ones work and whats missing
