ok, so, interestingly, i came back, plugged it into my usual setup here at home (UK) and it booted up fine. no problems at all.

so the only difference was screen it was plugged into (projector at home, 720p) vs a lcd telly in hotel in germany (1080 i think). and the source power supply.

note that i used 3 different usb power adapters, all with 2a+.
thinking about it i should have tried powering it from my laptop to see if that made any difference.

so has anyone heard of any issues with different countries/power supplies etc? all of the adapters i had were 110v/240v autoswitching so it SHOULDNT have been an issue.

    confused.

also, as i said, I cannot seem to drop into the CLI at all. any ideas how? i thought it was booting up holding shift but that doesnt seem to work any more.

i thought that, but it boots without the usb wireless receiver plugged in. weirdly.
so i’m thinking that it has to be related to that. power?

ok so i’ve powered it back up without my usb xbox wireless controller receiver plugged in and it boots up ok. not sure why its not appriciating that any more. maybe its to do with the power?

i’m in europe rather than the uk. so 110v not 240v. tried on 3 diff usb adapters now and same on all. also tried about 3 different usb leads.

ok i’m confused now. unless my usb receiver thing has completely died a death. :/

the package moonlight-embedded doesnt exist on any of the retropie repo’s. Any chance you could point to a repo that does?

I’m trying to compile my own version, on a fresh build of Retropie, but its failing. Last time i tried it it worked fine at compiling but on this i’m getting a shed load of dependancy issues which I can’t work out how to resolve.

lol yes i appreciate the legality aspect. I’ve been into retrogaming and the emulation scene for about 18 years now (wow i feel old now :( ) I’ve heard every argument going for and against ROMs etc.
Given that there are hundreds of emulators and systems which run emulators, Retropie is not a high enough profile to make the Emulator police start hunting down the developers of this with C&D letters rather than the developers of the emulators themselves or the sites which allow the roms to be downloaded. So really there is no need to pretend.

I don’t see him chiming in on every single MAME related query asking them about the warehouse they would have to own to store all of the original cabinets/jamma boards. ;)

The zip question is indeed a valid one which I think many people would benefit from, so i can’t see the need for a sarcastic and flippant remark.

Maybe he forgot a wink smiley…. then it would have all been fine :)

its all good. I have a garage to store them all in. I was donated them all by my late uncle. :)

out of interest, why the facetiousness?

ah ok. its not going to be much use it it duplicates the roms then as it would then be listing 2 of each game that I’ve played in the past.
I’ve checked the wiki and the ones that apparently support zipped roms are the obvious ones like MAME where roms come as zips anyway.

shame really, as it means my 11gb of zipped roms will need a 64gb card. :(

ok so i think i have sorted it now.
removed all retroarch related config, reinstalled retroarch from binaries. remapped controller using the retropie-setup script. now it works fine.

hope this helps anyone else who stumbles into this issue.

Sorry I meant to say that controls in emu station are configured fine. Yes using 3.

    Problem is solely retroarch related.

OK so I have configured the controls in the retroarch menu and it works OK. But when I quit out and go back into a game on the same system it doesn’t seem to have saved the config.

I can navigate said menu using keyboard though…unsure of where to go to change the controller config throughout retroarch…although if I could do it per emulate I could live with that.

Just to add mame works fine as can reconfigure controls fine.
Also if I go into the retroarch menu system and try to navigate it I can’t as the same issue with the only buttons work are dpad left and up.

Ah OK.. Awesome. I’m only running at 768 since that’s what my proj can handle.
Will do as you suggest and report back..prob wont be for a couple of days mind.

    Thanks for the quick replies

    Cool.
Well I’m not running too many systems…maybe like 10. will check. There are systems on there which are there by default which I don’t use…such as scummvm and PC and ports. Can I get rid of those?
Running on a Raspi 2 I’m already running 320mb GPU mem
Running on the zoid theme as it seems the best. It’s just a background image per system though isn’t it? Will try going back to default but would be a shame if so.
Was a fresh install of beta 3 I think which I have updated a few times.

Yup thanks I’ve seen that already. Didn’t appear to be relavent but clearly it must be if you’re linking to it ….since my issue is when exiting. And most of the other ones are other white screen situations. (Starting, after adding ROMs…etc. None of which I have experienced)

Are you saying that the bug is causing all of these issues?
Is there something which I can do which will stop it? Less ROMs? Less systems?

Any ETA on a fix? Is it ES related or RP related?

    Cheers

On my setup the SNES page doesn’t show any background image etc.

    Any ideas?

so is there any chance of giving people the option to “upgrade from binaries” instead so that it doesn’t lose configs etc?
Its a bit of an ask in this day and age to expect people to upgrade but not have a painless way to go about doing it.

I’m assuming that building from source will also cause you to lose configs.

So for Apt-get to be relevant to retropie, I assume you would have to create a repo for retropie, then also have repo’s for each of the individual emulators involved (unless you housed them all on a single retropie repo of known working/good builds of the emulators?)
