    When I fresh install raspbian on my raspberry (B, 512MB) and then installs retropie from source on it it will not start emulationstation when I enter that command on the raspberry pi. It “just stops”. Even the blinking where one is in the terminal stops blinking.

    I have tried on several different pis, with different SD-cards. Some times I try installing GUI as well. Same result.

    Any hints or pointers?

    Not sure what’s gone wrong but you could try using the RetroPie image to get up and running
