rpix86: without keyboard?

First of all: Thanks for the great work.

I am having some issues with the rpix86.
Is it possible to run rpix86 without mouse and keyboard?
I only have to controllers pluged in and when ever I try to start, the screen goes blank for a second and then it kicks me back to the main menu.

When I look into the output it says “unable to open dev/input/event?”
for mouse and keyboard. Is there a workaround? Can I map some controller buttons as keys?

I really want to play jazz jackrabbit…
