Hello I am new to the PI and am trying to get a mame machine running.
I have downloaded the retropie 1.8.1 image and wrote the countenance to my 8G SD using Win32diskimager.
All seems to go well except.

My Pi boots up but I only see some emulators missing the only 1 I truly want mame.

The SD card ends up with 3 partitions
1 boot about 50M in size
    2. partition *
    3. allocated

Is this correct? I am assuming that the 2 partitions are Linx so that is why Windows can not read to them. (I also wonder why the first partition is so small) Can I expand it and use it like one big drive?

I am unsure how to proceeded from here. I have read all that I can and am at a loss.
Every guide shows that all should be there and then where to go next.
    Thank you for your help
Obviously I am new to Linx but Dos and windows are my mainstay.

Emulation Station only shows the systems for which ROMs can be found. YOu might want to have a look at https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/How-to-get-ROMs-on-the-SD-card for a tutorial about getting ROMs on the RPi.

    Thanks for the tip.
I was able to get a USB drive mounted and have populated the ROM folder.
    It did work,
    Thank you for the information.
Honestly I would not have thought about putting anything in the folder until I saw it come up.
Hope that this post will help someone in the future.
