I have my Retropie running op my Pi 2, and as far as I know, everything is pretty well set.

My issue is that I’m running a lot of games in “demo-mode” and after an hour or two, it happens that the Pi is freezing, or is rebooting ES once, and can also get into an endless loop with a message like “emulation station will reboot after 5 seconds” (reboots and comes back to the very same message).

It happens with PC-Engine, Snes and PSX games, so it’s not emulator-related imo. The memory-split setup is 384mb GPU memory.
Firmware is up-to-date, everything else too.

I did a complete clean reinstall, but that didn’t help.

Oh, the reboot symptom is only happening when I quit the game (BigBen USB gamepad).

I was able to capture a crash during a PC-Engine game on exit:

    Loading %s…

    Using module: %s(%s)

    CD-ROM speed: %ux

    ROM: %dKiB

    ROM CRC32: 0x%04x

    ROM MD5: 0x%s

    Savestate name: /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pcengine/Magical Chase.sav
    Loading custom palette from “%s”…

    Error opening file: %m

RetroArch [WARN] :: init_video_pixel_converter :: 0RGB1555 pixel format is deprecated, and will be slower. For 15/16-bit, RGB565 format is preferred.

    Nobody??

Well, I’ve noticed that the given error, if displayed, is always the same:

    /usr/bin/emulationstation: line 20: 2327 Segmentation fault $es_bin “$@”

Again: it doesn’t matter which emulator I use…

I’ve done a fresh install on another Pi 2, but got the same issue sometimes, again with:
    /usr/bin/emulationstation: line 20: 2327 Segmentation fault $es_bin “$@”

This has now been reported on Github.

How are you putting it into demo-mode?

With demo mode, I just mean that I start a game and let it run without playing it.
So… in most cases, the so-called “demo mode” starts automatically.

Btw: my problem has been resolved: the lockups were caused by the (standard) Pi 2 overclocking feature in the Raspi setup.
The dram shouldn’t be set at 500: that’s way too critical.
Rather change the value to 483 in the ~/boot/config.txt

Now, everything is ok, the issues are gone.
