    Hi,
first of all, sorry if my choice of words is a little weird, I’m from germany :)

I have troubles setting up a second controller. I’m using a USB-to-SNES-adapter with two ports for two controllers.
The setup for the menu-control works fine, I am able to navigate trough the menu with both controllers without any problems.
I changed the retroarch.cfg file by copy- and pasting the configurations of the first controller (that already works fine in games) and changing the index to “1” and “player1” to “player2” what should be correct, right?

    Now to the weird part:
Controller 2 does NOT work unless I press any button of controller 1 at the same time. That is the only way that controller 2 does react at all while I’m in a game. Again, controller 1 and 2 work fine in the menu independent of each other.
When I swap the index-numbers of the controllers in the retroarch.cfg file they still do the same thing but swapped (controller 1 works only if any button on controller 2 is pressed). That makes me guess this is a settings-problem and not a hardware-problem.

Has anyone an solution to this?? I’m falling into despair… :)

I found out that both controllers work independent of each other in Mario Kart.
    Why is that?

I set up my RPi again and made the lengthy RetroArch-installation and enabled the SNESDev driver, but nothing has changed :(

SNESDev is only needed if you directly connect SNES controllers to the GPIO pins. If I understand correctly, this is not the case here.

First of all, you need to check, if the OS identifies your USB-adapter correctly. You can check this, e.g., with the commands lsusb or dmesg.

Then you need to know whether the adapter registers the controllers as joysticks or as a keyboard in the system. Depending on that you then need to configure the inputs for the Emulators.

    lsusb gives me this:
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0424:9512 Standard Microsystems Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0424:ec00 Standard Microsystems Corp.
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0409:0050 NEC Corp. 7-port hub
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 046d:c517 Logitech, Inc. LX710 Cordless Desktop Laser
Bus 001 Device 009: ID 0e8f:3013 GreenAsia Inc.

The adapter is the last one (GreenAsia), if I unplug it the last entry is missing.

    And dmesg gives me this:

I see plenty of GamePads. :D
    I’m using this adapter: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002OWHTNI/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Right now, I have a usb-hub plugged in (on the raspberry’s usb-port) and on the usb-hub a keyboard and the adapter.

What’s the next step? I’m not sure how the system registers my controllers

Ah I see, the ID of the adapter (0e8f:3013) shows that the controllers are registered as joysticks, so the setup via retroarch-joyconfig should be the right way, doesn’t it?
When I start the config it says “driver: linuxraw”. Is there a way to try an different driver?

I have the same Problem. Is there a solution yet?

Which emulator are you referencing? Do both controllers work on NES games? I have a feeling I just posted the answer to this question. I was having the same issues, but both controllers worked fine on NES games but doing what you are describing on SNES games. Turns out the problem was the SNES emulator that RetroPie uses by default. Here is the fix. https://www.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/2-player-snes-issues/

hi! thanks for the answer, I dont know if your fix would help with my problem (didn’t try it :) ) but I asked the same question in a different forum and there I was told that the code of the emulator is buggy, a simple index-mistake, but you cane fix it easily yourself:

Thanks for posting the link. I was noticing some sound issues and stuff with the other emulator. Using the linked fix worked great!

    Hi guys,

I hope someone can help me out with this problem.
The same problem occurs with my install. I have installed RetroPie SD card image v1.8 and the 2nd SNES controller is not working properly for some games (Super Mario World etc).

I have read the link (https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/issues/158) and noticed I need to change line 717 so it states index 1 (instead of index 0).
This needs to be change in the file ppu.cpp.

I have found the emulator core (/home/pi/RetroPie/emulatorcores/pocketsnes-libretro) but where can I find ppu.cpp??
    I really can’t find it! :(

    Thanks in advance!

    Greetings from a Raspberry/RetroPie newbie :)

I’m having the same problem, and nobody has posted a simple, step-by-step solution to this for Linux beginners. Everyone just assumes that when they say, “It’s simple! Just edit the ppu.ccp,”that the rest of us know:

    1) What that is.
    2) Where that file is.
    3) How to edit a code-based file.
    4) How to initialize the change via reboot or some other method.

I also can’t find that file. It does not exist in the path that anyone has described. The ONLY file there is the “libretro.so,” and the correct path is ACTUALLY:

    /opt/retropie/emulatorcores/pocketsnes-libretro
