mounted HD takes up space in root?

hi all,

so i have an external mounting at boot and am using it for sega cd and pox games, all is good. i did something similar to:

thing is, the /mnt directory on my root that points to the HD seems to be taking up space. i can copy games over FTP to the drive but they seem to take up space in the /mnt directory also? if i delete a cd game from the external, it frees up space on the SD.

is there anyway to have cd games NOT take up SD space?
