Hi, I have what I’d expect to be pretty basic question but an hour or so of Googling hasn’t helped!

When running emulationstation I get the “X is running. Please shut down X…” error. Ctrl-Alt and F1 didn’t seem to help. So I set the pi to boot directly to the console, and I’m still getting the error. What am I missing, is X still running?

FYI I installed retropi on a new pi, using the script.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

For the benefit of anyone else experiencing the same issue, I reinstalled, this time using the SD-card image and emulationstation works as expected.

If you run into this again do
    sudo /etc/init.d/lxdm stop

    or lightdm instead of lxdm
