"display_rotate" poor performance

Hello,

I’m a new raspberry pi 2 owner and I’m planning on building a bartop arcade machine with a vertical monitor. I have Reropie installed and running perfectly in standard orienatation but as soon as I add “display_rotate=1” to the boot config to rotate the screen 90 degrees the performance plummets.

Any ideas on how I might fix this? Is there perhaps a way to rotate emulationstation without rotating at the system level?
