So the idea of this post is to compile everyone’s most preferred settings for a modern HDTV look- as if the game was remade for being played on the Wii U’s virtual console. Basically, least pixelization with good contrast and not too much blur. This would be the go-to setting for newcomers who still want to experience the hailed classics- just without those old console and TV limitations.

We can start with my settings. My retroarch shader file has 2 layers.

    Layer 1: hq2x, nearly, don’t care

    Layer 2: snes-hires-blend, linear, don’t care

Since I’m new to most the games I’m playing, this is my automatic shader for all consoles. It makes everything look nice and new in my eyes with only a tiny (barely noticeable) bit of blur.

What would be YOUR preferred shader for this criteria? My goal is to go through all the responses and determine for myself what the best choice is. I’ll then post back what I’ve determined to be my preferred choice. Let’s find out together what looks freshest!
