Analog stick PS3 on other emulators

Hi all,

two quick questions:

is it possible to enable the analog stick as well as the Dpad for certain emulators like snes/mame/genesis/neogeo using a wired PS3 controller ?

This would make it so the person picking up the controller can pick their own favorite control scheme.

Also:

When remapping buttons on a wired PS3 controller usually one can manually edit the config files, which is fine but how do I find out which key is which on the joypad? Is this documented anywhere or does the naming differ from emulator to emulator?
