A couple of things that might help folks.
1. I had to change my memory split to 192 to get NES to work.
2. If you are copying the file over from windows avoid editing the file in notepad and either retrieve the file from the pi or just copy it over to the pi unedited.
3. Make sure the script is executable after copying it over. sudo chmod 755 <filename>
