When emulationstation boots, at the main input config screen it will skip past player 1, and on the press a button for player 2 or “hold a button on player 1 to continue” that dialog will flash as if a button is being pressed but not held. This is reading the keyboard, even when nothing on it was ever pressed. If I continue with the controller in port 1 the player 1 config will automate with the keyboard then let me do a controller like normal. It used to work fine, and then this problem came up and persisted onto a fresh install.

My first post is all wrong, it wasn’t detecting the keyboard, it was detecting control port 2 with nothing plugged in. I just need a couple resistors and she should be good again.

Not resolved, as I thought. Have tried a couple different resistors in different configurations on the clock, latch, and data wires.
Also, can’t get my button to work. One leg of the momentary button is on the 3.3v and the other leg is on pin 11. My RPi is a revision 2 but looking at pinouts has them named the same on both revisions. SNESDev is set to poll pads and buttons.

Anyone? Resistors haven’t helped yet, suggestions on better ways to place them.
    Still no reset button either.

You could compare the pin out of the adapter schematics at http://petrockblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/wpid-photo-19-10-2012-2001.jpg with the RPi pin out at http://elinux.org/File:GPIOs.png. The pin numbers given in the RetroPie Adapter schematics might be misleading here.
