Ok, so I have tried what you suggested by adding the following lines to the retroarch.cfg:
overscan_left=18
overscan_right=18
overscan_top=-18
overscan_bottom=-18
But this did nothing to the overscan problem within ES.
Can you post your settings to compare please?
