Okay, so I just got my controlblock, got all of the terminal blocks soldered in, and once I connect power to the Controlblock, it started smoking!! The capacitor got really hot and the LED I had soldered to it was blinking on and off.

In addition to this, the slide switch that I ordered with it just plain doesn’t work, I flipped it a few times and there was no discernible effect. My guess is that it’s soldered wrong since it’s not labeled which 3 solder points are positive and which are negative.

Sorry to hear that! Sounds as if there was/is a short circuit somewhere in your setup. All ControlBlocks are tested for proper functionality before they are shipped.
You could use a multimeter to be sure which pins to use of the button and to see where the short circuit is located.

Okay. I’ll be sure to try that, then update with results. Thanks!
